    Cheap MOT means expensive repairs
    newt182's avatar
Actually it means less expensive repairs as tyre shops do, tyres, brakes and exhausts and not much else. There is no motivation to fail on anything else. I have had an MOT at ATS for the last 4 or 5 years and never failed on anything but a seized rear caliper that I got repaired elsewhere.

Free alignment “check” with 20% of “adjustments”. That should tell you everything

Don't ask them to check if you think there will be foul play.

In my (decades of) experience, one does far better using a local MOT station, (Council-run ones are often v good) with a good reputation.

You get a more thorough check, and more honest recommendations/advice.

The council depots only do MOTs, and do not take on work, thus removing any incentive, or such consideration by the punter.
However they do charge the full rate

I had one of these "checks" a few years ago with ATS. Told me i needed new brakes. When i said i didn't have the money for the work right then the free check suddenly became a paid for check. Will never use ATS again.

    "I've checked, and yep, that's a battery"

I been using ATS through Groupon for the past 4 years and never had a bad experience. When there is an issue the mechanic also shows me and explains possible causes etc. Only had brake n tyres replaced as the guy clearly showed me how worn down they are. Highly recommend ATS (Dartford)

With the highest respect to the guys working there, they aren't mechanics. They are tyre fitters

I need a wheel alignment on my car. I’m guessing this deal is just a check to confirm I need an alignment and then I would have to pay extra on top for the actual alignment right?

Have just booked one of these in Glasgow
    Going in today. fingers crossed..

I once fell for these deals, did me on number plates losing their reflective coating , couldn’t believe it. Rang me up to tell me and ask if I wanted them to change the plates. Obviously said yes and when I asked for the old ones back, they advised me that they were thrown away and in a padlocked skip. Total con.

Our local ATS were brilliant. The lads knew their jobs inside out, the manager could always cut a real good deal on tyres, it was great. Then they had to close for 2 years - would you believe the wall of the building was falling down! Now reopened, all old staff gone, new staff a waste of space. I just don't use them anymore more, such a shame. I guess it's the same with any multi depot business, it's the luck of the draw as to how good they are.

Please make sure you check centres that actually do the MOTs at this price

My closest are Yeovil and Poole ( neither of which are on their list ! ) it now means I have to drive for over an hour to the closest one

Not funny in a Discovery 3

Did your car start and let you drive here? Congratulations your battery is fine

I'd personally steer clear, but a good deal if you don't mind taking your car to ATS. Heat added.

Anyone used them for a wheel alignment before? How are they, don’t trust taking my car to kwikfit
  15. jensbonde's avatar
be mindful to check if your local branch accepts these groupons, apparently mine doesn't 😔
  16. JammyD's avatar
I've used the ATS MOTs via the Groupon deals for the past 2 years with no issues at all, car passed with no advisories on both occasions.

Just check (and change if required) your tyres, lights, wipers etc beforehand and you should be fine. (edited)
  17. DryUrEyesMate's avatar
What are chances they don’t honour the free wheel alignment?
    JammyD's avatar
Low. If it's on your receipt/voucher and you ask them to honour it, they will. If you don't mention it, they'll assume you're not bothered about it and that you have just come for the MOT (edited)
  18. daddybr00's avatar
Bear in mind that this is valid at participating ATS only, my closest one isn't shown
    JammyD's avatar
Probably because your closest ATS doesn't do MOTs at all. I'm in the same boat so have had to travel a little bit further for an ATS that does do MOT to use the Groupon
