These are rubbish, I'm thinking of dumping mine and getting Nest instead

Great insight there. Loads of helpful info to tell people what makes it so rubbish. I personally have the ring 4 doorbell and it's fantastic. Easy to move the area you want monitoring/notifications for. Very responsive in terms of when somebody is picked up to phone notification. Changeable front so can match decor/door. (edited)

Switched from this to the ReoLink PoE one.
The ReoLink is a far better product.
Not only was the range of the Ring really poor - and we tried it with a Chime Pro which acts as a range extender - but it was very unreliable in terms on notifications. So much so that I though it might the poor range, but even moving a second router right behind the door and connecting to that - very messy with a long ethernet cable but this was just to try it out - still left us with unreliable notifications which were hit and miss.
Of course, PoE for the ReoLink was more work and required a PoE injector but the difference is huge. The ReoLink always notifies for everything.
Huge added bonus is that it works without subscription, can take a micro SD card and I think even with the SD card it gives you preview (although slightly unsure whether we got those before I put the SD card in).
    Not impressed with Ring. (edited)

Had these since 2015. Paid subscription throughout. Recently went with xiaomi cameras with local SD card recording. Amazing. They're also 5G wifi compatible.

Also these are owned by amazon and have their customer service in egypt which is horrific.

I have the ring doorbell (hardwired power) - thinking of getting the chime - in 2 minds whether to get the chime or chime pro. You said you recently went with xiaomi cameras with local SD .... did you still keep the original ring doorbell and the paid subscription with ring and just added the xiaomi cameras and do they come with local sd recording (am pretty lame with this tech malarky) - would be grateful for some info - thank you for all your help.

How useful are these without subscription

I am planning to use mine as just a video doorbell, not interested in recording but I want to see who is at my door when the bell rings

I had the Gen 2 a while back (paid at this double this) and I found the WiFi to be terrible, even with an after market medium to high end access point - so it got returned.

I gave the 4 with a couple of chimes a go earlier this year and with WiFi 5 it is night and day better. I have since upgraded my WiFi to newer / higher spec WiFi 6 units which may mean the 2's may had behaved better.

It looked like the App had improved substancially too. At this price its certainly worth a look.

Does anyone know what the benefit of this is over an eufy doorbell and chime? I'm looking to buy this or the video doorbell with a chime but not sure what the difference between the two is.
