That Decathlon bike claims to have a carbon fibre fork but their description reads Carbon fork and aluminium pivot which to be honest doesn't make a lot of sense but I'm guessing they incorrectly used the term 'pivot' instead of 'steerer' the point is its difficult to bond aluminium to carbon fibre so over the years the bonding can weaken and fail and this has been the cause of quite a few fork recalls. Where possible its better to get a full carbon fibre fork, it will be lighter, have more comfort typically and less likely to fail as long as properly installed. Forks are just about the most critical part of bikes for safety more so than frames, when they fail there is a real chance of major injury or death as the whole front of the bike collapses meaning the impact of hitting the road can be severe and the possibility of vehicles behind you going right over you. Personally for a gravel bike I would want a steel fork but then I'm a heavy rider.

I've got to buy a bike for Race the Sun at Brecon, so loads of climbing. Don't currently own a bike, and unlikely to be an "enthusiast" after this charity event, but need something decent and light that'll get me up some hills.

No idea what I'm looking for other than a road bike, and filtering by Hot on here - any experts who can give a steer on the kind of setup or components that will add some benefit with a lot of hill climbing it'd be really kind! This Triban seems a popular deal, as does the Wizard Lightining one. Don't want to spend more than £700 really, and for more than £450 I'd want to understand what the extra way paying for in context of hills!

Looks decent value and a very good entry level spec. The only thing I'm unsure of is whether its a full carbon fibre fork or carbon fibre blades with a aluminium steerer which I'm less keen on.

Not a bad bike to use everyday if you are going to have to lock it up somewhere, eg the shops.

No mudguards or space for them in a country where it rains 85% of the year...

If only those break cables could have been hidden a bit better (edited)
