Upgrading to a PS5 and then using an HDD for storage just seem counter intuitive to me.

You can get a 1tb internal SSD for about £90.

What’s the best 2tb ssd to go for? So far chosen the Samsung 990 pro 2tb any good?

If this was an external SSD at this price it would be hot but a traditional external 2tb HDD for £65 is nothing special sorry op. Going rate on Amazon for similar devices is £60 (I presume they can be used with a PlayStation in the same way our Xboxs can use any external drive). (edited)

Can I use it not for games or game saves; but for watching downloaded movies? I know I can do it with a USB stick. (edited)

You can use it for storage and play xbox 360 games, but you can't play series x/s games.
