sorted byBut basically:
XM4 - Better folding mech (more compact), thicker headband (more padding).
XM5 - More fancy carrying bag, better noise cancelling (8 mics rather than 4). Arguably better audio, but it's more due to the superior noise cancelling).
I went with the XM4s about 2 years ago mostly swayed by the better folding because I travel with them, and am still happy. I figured there is a reason Sony hasn't made the XM4s obsolete yet, it's because it's still selling well and the XM5 isn't obviously better, and that's without taking the price into consideration.
In all honesty though, there isn't much difference in performance.

Still haven't opened the Apple Airpods from Argos deal.
However, I'd be keen to know how these Sony's would compare to the Q30? Would they provide a monumentally improved sound experience? I can see myself using these every day so I'd take a punt on these if people in the know think they're worth investing in.
Edit: I see the XM4 being compared to the Apple Airpod Max at £500
Edit 2: Thank you to @Hypnotoad who shared a XM4 (£179) vs Q30 (£50) video. Blimey... The Q30 must be the best bang for buck over the head wireless headphones. The £500 Airpod Max sounded slightly better than the £179 Sony XM4 which sounded slightly better than the Soundcore Q30.
Conclusion: The £500 Airpod Max sound great. The £179 XM4 sound not far off but if you're on a budget and not a massive audiophile the Q30 at £50 offer amazing bang for buck on all fronts after tweaking the equalisers.
I still think most people would get 90% of the £500 Airpod audio experience for 10% of the price the with the Soundcore Q30 at £50. The Sony XM4 occupies a sweet spot at £179 for those who are happy to pay a little more for a little better compared to Apple's offerings. (edited)
The Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless are better headphones than the Anker Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless. The Sony are more comfortable, feel better built, and have a better-balanced sound profile right out of the box. Their active noise cancelling feature can reduce more noise around you, and they have an auto-off timer to help conserve their battery life when not in use. That said, the Anker have a longer continuous battery life.
I know it shouldn't matter and it's subjective, but I'm always put off by just how ugly I find them. Can't seem to get past it so Bose or B&O for me.

I got a pair (new) recently from ebay for 172 so not worth returning for £12 . Not used them as they're a gift
I was thinking of the PX8's by Bowers Wilks, but these are a tempting price.

In fact I prefer my £50 Soundcore Q30 over these for comfort and I prefer to over the top bass I get with them. I will miss the ANC on XM4 but I can live without that. I posted a thread on Reddit and it seems not everyone loves these as much as the hype suggests.
I will keep my Q30 until Soundcore come up with a suitable successor which I dont think they currently have. (edited)
If you don't mind wired earphones I would definitely recommend some Kiwi Ears Cadenza or something similar, apart from that though just stick with your Q30 if you like them - if it aint broke, dont fix it!
