About this deal

If you're going for an SG style guitar on a lowish budget, I don't think you'll go to far wrong here. Specs look good overall and it's perhaps a nice one to upgrade over time as well.

The nut is graphtech, which I'm a fan of (I switch all of my guitars over to these, pretty much) decent grover tuners and a rosewood fretboard. For a tickle under £250, I see little to whinge about.

Considering Epiphone prices these days, a new SG style with these specs is good overall value. If you're near a store and want to try one before you buy, you can see the availability on the product page

I had an SG Vintage and it felt like a budget guitar. They add ok parts but the overall finish is where they save money. Sharp frets etc.

Interesting. I have a Vintage strat, and it's extremely well made.

I’ve always wanted to play a Vintage guitar, I’ve played some Encore guitars and they are ok but Vintage is obviously a lot higher up in quality. I’ve only ever heard good things about Vintage guitars.

I was about to say I've never played a Vintage but that despite that, I've always rated them as being very good as a balance between cost and quality, plus their range is quite comprehensive, but then I remembered that the only guitar from my teens is in fact a Vintage V400!

I've owned a few Vintage guitars over the years, and I can vouch for them. Great guitars! Prefect for beginner or intermediate players or anyone who just wants to try something different. This deal deserves heat. Worth the cash! I will say the really early versions of Vintage guitars were very cheap and terrible. As far as I know they were bought out. Since then, they have used good quality Wilkinson parts and glued on their necks. If you see (or have played) a Vintage brand guitar with a bolt on neck, they are terrible and not to be confused with the brand nowadays.

That's a great price and also available £10 cheaper at Ivor Mairants if you can be bothered. Personally, I'd use Kenny's Music.

Very tempted by a ProShop Custom build. Look awesome

Great deal but preferred the older versions that were closer to an actual SG shape.

I can't personally say much regarding this model but I have played some vintage Les Paul and Strat copies which have been really well built with a good setup. I hate to say this but they are better than my Norlin era Gibson (expensive firewood)

I've played a few Vintage guitars before and wasn't hugely impressed. The frets especially were very sharp and uneven which leads to quite a high action. The parts were a little plasticky, however that was a few years ago!

The Wilkinson pickups are pretty decent and the Graphtec and Grovers are quite decent parts - worth a punt but I'd try one first if you can. Guitars at this price level can be absolutely fantastic, however they often require work to get them to that point (for example the fret concerns earlier). Once that's all been done you might as well have bought something more expensive unless you've got experience with working on guitars.

It looks great, just be aware it will likely take some work to get it to play as good as it looks.
