Is the VRS model a better buy at £100 more?

I’m no expert and was just seeing if the extra worth it for reasonably light use.

    Thanks

I would say so. I got the VRS 29er and spent two days throwing it down the reds at BPW which was awesome fun. I am 18 stone as well, but bike was absolutely mint.

Gutted these aren't available via my employers cycle2work scheme. Stuck with halfords and tredz offerings

They're the main ones but plenty of other places accept them. Planet X. On-One Scandal GX is a great buy for £799/ £699 (ex display). No large though.

I have the VRS model and have been very happy with it!

Yeah I think that's well worth the extra personally. Both are good buys!

Desperate for them to start taking CycleScheme again, no ETA on the website

Same. Even their reps don't know that date, or at least won't give one. Frustrating as my scheme ends in March.

By no means an expert but this looks a cracking price for a budget 'proper' mountain bike

Nice bike but if you can afford it go for the Vitus Nucleus 27 VRS at £100 more, 10 speed and better Shimano components.

Very good but are heavy - I have one plus a carbon bike - if you can afford a carbon one get one as they are way better - you can get low end carbon ones now for about double this
    Avatar
Hey Darren. How heavy is it?

Vitus are brilliant modern geometry mtbs! It’s at the low end. And yes the forks will be dire. But that’s a decent bike. For not a lot of money

I'm really tempted to get this bike.

Just watched this video and looks great

Been this price for ages, picked up a VItus Nucleus 26 for my son last week, seems great. The VRS is well worth the extra, I was toying with it but decided on a Fuji Nevada 1.7 SRAM instead, which is currently on offer for 320 on Wiggle, couldn't justify 500 quid on a bike for occasional riding.

That gearing will be hell for a beginner with small wheels. A very odd choice to stick a 1x8 setup on.

The fork is actually a very good one if you are prepared to do the upgrade to oil and then look after it.

The best cheap upgrade you can do is buy some tubeless valves and sealant at the same time.

Medium frame...what height would that (typically) work for. My son is growing fast and I want to make sure we get something he can ride now but that he will be able to at least keep going for a couple of years.

    5-6 to 5-11 maybe

    Absolute bargain.

Good bike except the gears are very stiff, geometry and forks are great

Does anyone know if a weeride co-pilot tagalong would fit on this? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't just clamp to the seat post but if anyone knows for sure...
  16. Avatar
Air fork and hydro brakes for £400 isn’t bad at all. £500 for 10spd makes sense
  17. Avatar
Heat from me good price for good bike and in stock(y)
  18. Avatar
Best entry level mountain bike sub £400.

dont get anything cheaper. this should be where bikes begin.
VITUS, is fast becoming the real deal.

If your thinkin about it your wasting time.. This is a great bike..you won't find better for the budget. But like all day get the VRS if you can.. Well worth it on an already great price.

finally bike prices are down and its just the start

Getting back into mountain biking for the first time in about 15 years and not sure the difference in wheel size needed (27.5 or 29inch). Any help would be great.

I've been looking for a budget hybrid bike for quite some time. There are several in the market, but I know nothing about bikes. So, don't want to end up wasting my money. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could recommend a good bike that's less than £500 and is good enough to work for a few years.
