A £1 USB mouse would be a quicker/cheaper solution. The effort involved in repairing a trackpad might be worth it if you already have the knowledge & equipment (it's probably just a mechanical switch that needs swapped out). However I suspect it would make more sense to swap out the entire assembly.
I've had this issue with my Lenovo since some update.. reinstalled synaptics or something and it worked.. only.. its stopped working again and I just can't remember how I fixed it the last time.. got a mouse now. Easy. Love it.
