The reason given was they were just able to sell stock and we not able to accept returns. I was told that I could buy the rgb striplight in addition to the white striplight I was trying to return :/ . Tbh... another store or another cashier and it might have been a different story.
The comment was aimed at whoever just counter comments just for the sake of it without much relevance to the original comment made. I see it all the time on lots of hukd threads. My original comment was made to highlight the very poor customer service of... Please forgive me... A company that was maplin, that is no longer maplin but with the name maplin. In relation to the police it would not take much thought to figure it out. However in brief...it was near closing time when the rude person working in that store became ever more obnoxious, he told me that I could not have a refund on a product, he kept repeating that it was against protocol. I got angry he got angrier. There. The police were not called but I left with a product I did not want hence my original comment here.
Not sure if that was aimed at me or not... I fail to see how your comment was for the good of hukders, it wasn't relevant. The problem you had, whatever it was, was with a company that no longer exists You still haven't explained how trying to return an item then escalated to being threatened with the police being called, hence...theres a bit more to the story
Did they give a reason as to why they could not refund?
I was an "original Maplin" customer from the early 1970s right through to the sad days when they were taken over by venture capitalists - their business practices wree at best "questionable" (buying the company, and then front-loading the debt at a 15% before they made a single sale) The one saving grace of the high-street (and out-of-town shopping centres) was at one stage they had a range of plugs and sockets, primary components and reasonably well informed staff which allowed you to look at the gear, you paid a bit more for the convenience, but it was a lot quicker than ordering from China and finding the stuff you got wasn't suitable. If they are just working mail order, many of those advantages are lost - they have to come up with something better than Ebay, Amazon, Banggood and Gearbest (other online retailers also exist) Not voted either way but I'm not entirely convinced they present anything different - yet. Here's hoping they make a go of it.
