I got my code but never used it.

stuartbaker80

It wasn't Peter Jones, he publicly said so here: https://twitter.com/dragonjones/status/1081225734235009024?s=19

I believe there only planning an online presence no shops! But they go up against all of the eBay boys on pricing now! A very competitive market place.

windta1ker

And queue all the comments about how over priced the original Maplins were... I for one miss them, so easy to pop in for bits and pieces for work...hey ho

The reason given was they were just able to sell stock and we not able to accept returns. I was told that I could buy the rgb striplight in addition to the white striplight I was trying to return :/ . Tbh... another store or another cashier and it might have been a different story.

deleted194701

The comment was aimed at whoever just counter comments just for the sake of it without much relevance to the original comment made. I see it all the time on lots of hukd threads. My original comment was made to highlight the very poor customer service of... Please forgive me... A company that was maplin, that is no longer maplin but with the name maplin. In relation to the police it would not take much thought to figure it out. However in brief...it was near closing time when the rude person working in that store became ever more obnoxious, he told me that I could not have a refund on a product, he kept repeating that it was against protocol. I got angry he got angrier. There. The police were not called but I left with a product I did not want hence my original comment here.

windta1ker

Not sure if that was aimed at me or not... I fail to see how your comment was for the good of hukders, it wasn't relevant. The problem you had, whatever it was, was with a company that no longer exists You still haven't explained how trying to return an item then escalated to being threatened with the police being called, hence...theres a bit more to the story

Niz

Did they give a reason as to why they could not refund?

I was an "original Maplin" customer from the early 1970s right through to the sad days when they were taken over by venture capitalists - their business practices wree at best "questionable" (buying the company, and then front-loading the debt at a 15% before they made a single sale) The one saving grace of the high-street (and out-of-town shopping centres) was at one stage they had a range of plugs and sockets, primary components and reasonably well informed staff which allowed you to look at the gear, you paid a bit more for the convenience, but it was a lot quicker than ordering from China and finding the stuff you got wasn't suitable. If they are just working mail order, many of those advantages are lost - they have to come up with something better than Ebay, Amazon, Banggood and Gearbest (other online retailers also exist) Not voted either way but I'm not entirely convinced they present anything different - yet. Here's hoping they make a go of it.

Misleading title. Its not £5 off 40 or £10 off 80. Its as above spend the amount to receive a voucher for future spend. Please update title.

The wording of the OP's post is wrong because you receive a voucher for the next shop, rather than something taken off immediately at the till on your until £40 or £80 spend.

He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I have 38 on my Wi-Fi along with a host of smart sockets and other Wi-Fi smart devices and I’m currently streaming 4K HDR with absolutely zero stuttering/buffering on a paltry OpenReach 35Mb line. These things do not affect Wi-Fi speeds in the slightest.

Weirdy

Got similar to these (higher lumen count = around 11w) but a bit cheaper a year or 2 ago and they link up with everything I've tried, Smartthings, Yeelight, Xiaomi Home, Smart Life etc . Currently all my lights can be controlled by Google Assistant/Home and Alexa at the same time (y)

tophertronic

I’ve just bought a netatmo on this deal to replace a nest. Personally went with this over tado because that requires a bridge connected to your router. It was just another thing that needed a plug, and I didn’t actually have enough sockets near my router to power it. Netatmo just has the relay, which can be connected in many different ways, including powered through your boiler, depending on electrical connections. And the thermostat is battery or can be mains powered I believe if you have a traditional powered thermostat.

Return

Good at predicting how much heat is needed and turning off before it hits the final desired temperature whilst the ambient heat in the radiator takes it the last few degrees. Likewise, when the temperature is dropping the boiler kicks in before the actual temperature drops below the desired one.

Deedie

Can you get smart trv for nest?

CaptainSlog

Why do you say that? I’m keen to buy and prefer Apple Homekit so I’m interested to hear your experience if you use them please.

Had these for a few years. Could not be happier with them. This is a bit of bargain

Battery life 4 days?? Sometimes I worry this watch is nuclear powered it lasts so long. I wear it everyday - day and night and also for cycling regularly. Linked to mi app and strava with notifications on etc. I've had it since mid December and I've charged it 3 times!! Yours must be faulty?

Smm0

The sleep tracker is worthless. I often wake up at night and check the time.. never registered me as being awake (even though I operate the watch!!) The oled screen is a small rectangle inside the watch and looks terrible if you dont keep most of the display as black. The band 6 has a more acceptable looking screen. The battery life is abysmal if you want to use a y of the features like heart rate, sleep monitoring etc. 2 weeks battery? No.. 4 days more like. The message trick is cool, but of course your phone must be transmitting bluetooth and more battery drain all round. The messages will be spammed full of #### where it cannot display emoticons or images. Alarms need to be set in the app not on the band. The interface chugs when scrolling. Looks very cheap. Overall..do not go paying over £10 for one in my opinion. £20 at a real push. Wait for the Band 6.

Addyhayat

boom ... purchased with Quidco cash back 1.6% :) thanks

Addyhayat

which one you recommed with NFC ?

bovrilla

The good - one of the cheapest ways to get your phone notifications on your wrist. Compatible with third party watch applications if you don't trust the Xiaomi app on your phone or just dislike the feature set. Possible to sideload watch faces from a few places, again without having to use the Xiaomi app. OLED touchscreen is fab. The bad - Not terribly accurate with sleep monitoring. Screen has no minimal always-on time display, have to slap it on your skin to trigger the capacitive touch. The default strap is terrible and will come off if you're trying to do any physical work whilst wearing it. Also, there's a new Mi Band 6 out that's probably much better.

I worked for Maplin for a number of years. I've seen these guys pop up and around using the name. Guess the name was sold on, as these are not the guys I worked for. The info on their site is vague, saying they started in '72. The name did. I'd be interested to know what's what with these guys.
