Next question, how do you go about adding RAM to this? Is it easy enough to do yourself or does it require taking it in somewhere?
    G.Bell's avatar
Not sure if this is the 15" or 17" version, but it will more or less the same
  2. bigpappa's avatar
How many RAM slots does this have? How easy is it to upgrade the memory and will that void the warranty?

    2.
    Very.
    No.

This looks a very basic machine for gamers. 8gb, old processor, basic screen, old graphics card.
    markyo007's avatar
Even if it is a basic machine for gamers, it will be better than most Laptops at that price, that only come with an integrated graphics card. Even if this isn’t used for gaming, it will be better than most everyday use laptops (edited)
  4. struc_ccy's avatar
How easy to add ram to this model?
    Lewis_Tinham's avatar
9 screws, pry open the back, unplug the battery ribbon cable and upgrade. Good tutorials on YouTube (edited)

Where do you get this info? Is the 6th match onwards leaflet avaliable online somewhere? Any other laptops in it?

Would hogawarts legacy run on this. And games like fortnite and Fifa. Thinking of getting something like this for my son

Hogwarts Legacy performs well when an additional 8GB of RAM is installed in the second slot. The minimum RAM requirement for the game is 16GB.

I had a Legion 5 with a 1650 GPU and 8GB of RAM. The game constantly stuttered until I added a second RAM stick to reach 16GB, after which it played smoothly.
  7. plewis00's avatar
That is a superb deal for a gaming laptop like this. Must be EOL with that CPU but still plenty powerful enough and the 1660 Ti will decimate the usual 1650s machines in this price bracket.
  8. jonnyc1973's avatar
any recommendations for ram for this, and is it easy to fit? Worth adding a further 16gb or just 8gb? thanks

What kind of screen is it? Can't see for looking!

I'm very fussy when it comes to tech prices but this is clearly a very good deal. There's no point whining about what it isn't; what it is is an excellent budget machine that is a workable compromise for people who can't afford top of the line specs. Tempted to get it for editing but I have an ungodly dentist bill coming up (and a fair bit of surgery )
  11. rrkjk's avatar
How would this perform on FHD gaming? Also anyone know how the screen is in terms of brightness?
    CloudXIII's avatar
Very good for the price, especially if you add a second stick of ram.

i have a feeling they were happy to be shot of them. There was a deal about 2 to 3weeks back for a AMD 6600h with a RTX 3050 and 16 GB DDR 5 for £440 only lasted for 48hr`s shot back up to £700 after. Keep your eyes open and there will lots more.

Would this be able to run Half Life Alyx & be able to run it over cable into Oculus Quest 2??

That’s my threshold of performance to buy a new laptop!
    J2022's avatar
Yes. I played alyx with a laptop 3gb 1060 just fine on low details, this is a fair bit more powerful (edited)

Think Curry's would price match this when it goes on sale?
    jonnyc1973's avatar
    Currys don't stock this.

If anyone is able to advise whether this might have a high enough spec for a 17 year old on a game design course, Id be indebted. We’ve been hoping he’d get through without a gaming computer - doing extra work on the computers in college - but everyone else on his course has their own and he’s now at a disadvantage. Sorry to ask - I just don’t have a clue, except we need to get him something as cheaply as we can. Thank you in advance!
    kndusr19's avatar
Fully agree with , buy it. The 17 year old can upgrade the memory to 16gb if required. Only slight downside is that this is heavy kit being 3kg, but it is 17" laptop.
  17. ToxicHazard's avatar
Brilliant deal, after a ram upgrade this will handle light to mid gaming handily!

guys I've just found something pretty useful. Give me 20 mins and I'll share with pics included. Think I've solved my NVMe "no screw slot" problem (edited)

    Sorted

I've highlighted the bracket that can be used to secure the NVMe drive down.

Will this play Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk, RDR2?

Edit: Just tried a site called technical city where you select a game, input your processor, graphics card and RAM and see if it runs. The 3 games I've listed all meet at least the minimum requirements IF the RAM in this computer is upgraded to 16GB. (edited)
    fiqqer's avatar
It will easily run cyperpunk even at 2k resolution. Maybe not full details but certainly more than basic set up.

I have played through cyberpunk 3 times on my 3400 processor with 1050ti graphics card.

    Why going hot
    Not that cheap is it
    sheffield788's avatar
For 17 inch is cheap. For a gaming laptop is cheap. And it is upgradable, which is a bonus.
  21. markinoxon's avatar
Both my kids have Legion 5 laptops (one Intel, one amd). Both have been brilliant and super easy to upgrade ram (log onto Crucial's site, run the test, buy the product it suggests, get it in the post, unscrew back, pop back off, put ram in, back screwed back on).*

I've been after an ok laptop with a big telly for a while now, I've now got this in my basket and wishlist ready to buy. Thanks OP!

    Who's excited but nervous?

So I've been thinking... Is this actually a good deal? (edited)
    XiaofengXiaofeng_Xiaofeng's avatar
It's a 17.3 inch laptop with 100% sRGB for £499. That alone is better than anything else on the market.
  23. CENTRALPERKS's avatar
I might sell this laptop and put the extra money towards a more powerful intel 1. Don't really need the graphics. Graphics is good with this machine because I believe the CPU and GPU work together and I was hoping my PLEX server could utilise this feature for better transcoding. I think I'd rather something a little more portable (edited)

I managed to successfully update my warranty. Start here - support.lenovo.com/gb/…ty/

You will need to submit your Costco invoice and the serial number of your laptop, I also included a photo of the label on the box for good measure.

Hope this helps anyone looking to do the same.

    Dear Customer,

Your device warranty has been successfully updated.
Update will be reflected in Lenovo warranty lookup within the next business day.

Got a feeling our Legion's only supports PCIe 3.0 speeds...
    XiaofengXiaofeng_Xiaofeng's avatar
    Of course? It's a laptop from 2020.

I haven't got a Costco card myself. Could a family member order this for me on their account, but use my credit card to pay for it?
    dimpz's avatar
    Yes
  27. very452001's avatar
Can anyone confirm can this laptop output 4K at 120hz to a LG OLED TV not for gaming because obviously it is not powerful to play games at 4K at 120hz but for Windows desktop, apps, YouTube and stuff?

Is it 1 x8Gb Ram or 2x4Gb Ram in this, and anyone know what ram it uses such as brand or model?

Lastly can you charge this laptop via the usb c port with just a usb c cable so need to carry the power brick around?

Finally how much VRAM the Nvidia GPU has in this?

This is a 2-3 year old laptop right?
  28. oliver_staunton's avatar
How does this work? Will the price just drop or does it need a code? I've logged in and added to basket
    KodaBear's avatar
No code needed. It's an auto discount. But you want to take it out of the basket as if you add it before it goes live, the discount sometimes doesn't get added at checkout due to the weird and wonderful way their system works.
  29. bigpappa's avatar
I bought one but I didn't check, does this have usb C power socket for charging, I don't like proprietary chargers.
    KodaBear's avatar
Nope. Lenovo's high powered laptops all use a proprietary connection for charging.

It makes you wonder how they can take £400 off the price and then it jumps back up to full price. Are they loosing money selling these at a reduced price, or is it to get rid of stock with the 2023 deals coming? Hopefully anyway.
    Skymonkey's avatar
It also makes you wonder how many they actually had in stock at this price... Not very many.
  31. Skymonkey's avatar
Warranty has expired on mine. Only alternative is to purchase one of three warranty types. I've been on the online chat and it directs me, no matter how I try and trick it, to buy a warranty. Just heads up for others may be the case.
    mrb30's avatar
There is an option on the Lenovo website to update the warranty status, mine said out of warranty, but you fill the form out and upload a copy of the invoice. I'm pretty confident that they will get back to confirm a 12 month warranty, will keep you updated.

Besides that, Costco are practically a 3 year warranty anyway, and they are usually really good.

    Try this link;

in case this hasn't been said already, either HWinfo64 or CPU-Z (free applications) will read the hardware ID directly off the RAM, allowing you to search for the exact one
    kndusr19's avatar
Speccy is another good free one. You don't need to open your machine to find out what RAM or how many sticks it has

So just spotted the MSI deal from Amazon this morning and am now reconsidering returning this and purchasing that. I already fully expect the build quality to not be as good however the several generational leaps in CPU and GPU for only a little more seem to make sense.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom to share?

    hotukdeals.com/sha…623
    bovrilla's avatar
The screen on the MSI is a little bit blegh.

I went for a Medion (expecting very little in terms of build niceties) but got a better screen with it than the MSI.
  34. sheffield788's avatar
Voted hot! Amazing price. If the RAM is upgradable, even better. And I think the Legion models are easily upgradable. I doubt it you'll find anything brand new with these specs and 17 inch screen, at this price. The screen seems good too at 144hz. (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
Can be upgraded but the base is quite tightly clipped on once screws removed so I wouldn’t call it ‘easy’ as such but can be done with some time and patience.
  35. kashifchopra's avatar
    Is offer expired already ?
    kndusr19's avatar
No, did you read the deal?

I'm drifting into the sleepy abyss, where the deep desire for sleep lures me into its comforting grip. I shout, "No!" as I hurl my phone. I stare into the abyss, it stared back - we both agreed to stay up and get a laptop each.
    CENTRALPERKS's avatar
    Maximum purchase of 1.
  37. CENTRALPERKS's avatar
If people would have stayed up and did what us successful buyers did they would have 1 also
    laughinggravy's avatar
The people who stayed up were smart enough to realise that there was a very good chance it would sell out very quickly
