If anyone needs a heatsink, this Thermalright one is stupidly cheap at £4 -

Do I need a heat sink if I am getting the 2 TB version for my PC? Does it come with one?

The 2TB version of this drive is still overpriced.
There are other gen4 2TB TLC NAND drives (that's what this drive is) for quite a bit less -
    hotukdeals.com/dea…624

Ignore the difference in the high sequential speeds that are listed, they are only important if you spend a lot of time transferring large files.
For general use/gaming/etc the Integral will perform just as well as this WD drive.

If the techie speak confuses you just let me know and I can help out. (edited)

Anyone using this in a PS5? Curious to know if it works OK given it's just lower than the recommended speed.

I have 2 of these ....a 1 Tb and a 2TB.... no problems at all so far

These have a best buy award in a recent PC Pro magazine roundup .....over the SN850 for the price/performance. Good price

This or Corsair mp600 xt for os drive ?

Depending on your use case. If you're going to use it in a gaming PC then I'd get whichever is cheaper.

If you're going to do a lot of productivity work that utilizes the local storage or use it as a scratch disk, I'd get the one with DRAM (ie. MP600 XT). (edited)

I have a Samsung Galaxy Book1 Pro, I think it uses Gen 3 SSDs (not sure really). I want to upgrade the storage from its current 500Gb SSD...., is a Gen 4 SSD overkill or is it fine to use? Doesn't seem to be too much difference in gen 3 and gen 4 prices either.

No difference apart from the speed will be capped at Gen3 levels

Not ps5 comptable. you will void your warranty if you use this drive.
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar

    Utter nonsense.
Changing the PRIMARY drive with a non-certified drive will void the warranty.

You can use any gen4 drive you like in the secondary drive slot, which is what everyone here is doing. (edited)

Love how you can get an NVME or M.2 for this price yet not a prayer of seeing an actual "box" SSD at it.

Is you use an external enclosure it should work but at that point you are better off by buying a standard 7200rpm HDD or a sata SSD

Not a great deal as that's QLC NAND vs the more durable TLC NAND in this WD for only a little more.

This gen4 TLC drive is silly cheap at the moment -
    hotukdeals.com/dea…257

The SN570 (TLC) would be a decent gen3 alternative for £40-
    amazon.co.uk/WD_…-15

Or this Kioxia (TLC) with DRAM cache as an added bonus for £44 -

Could someone explain in plain English what this gizmo might do for a basic pc which struggles with games? Or wouldn't do (edited)
    alex_ahlen's avatar
    alex_ahlen
It will not change how well your games run but depending on what you have it might make them load faster. It you have an old spinning hard drive (HDD) upgrading to this SSD will make your windows boot fast, your applications load quickly and your games load fast and will make your computer generally feel snappy. If you already have an SSD there will be much less difference. Of course the is much more nuance to it but roughly speaking. If you want to improve games graphics card is most likely where you want to start looking. (edited)

I wonder why we've seen SSDs crash in price so much in the last while, all in all with RAM crumbling, PSU's finally coming down and lower end GPUs starting to flood in a decent PC may get halfway attainable for the first time in a long while.
