Here is my review about this laptop 6 months ago if anyone cares

For the price of 230 pounds this laptop is a steal. Intel i3 processor even if it is 10th gen. enough for most people's everyday use. For more serious editing or gaming this is not your choice, go for intel i5 or ryzen 5 min. instead. This comes with 4 gb onboard (soldered) and 4 gb interchangable ram, ddr4, so it is upgradable up to 12 gb (4+8). Maybe 20 gb total max but nobody has tested yet. There is an empty hdd slot as well so you can extand your drive (you will need a rubber "case" to fit the hdd in and a sata cable (short, likely bended, no screws). Ssd is 256 gb and also upgradable. Mine is WD green. Wifi card is realtek 8821ce, which is ac at least but not a speedy one and does not support wifi6. But you can upgrade this as well. In everyday use, after a good setup (proper driver installation, switch from win 11 s to win 11 home for free, windows 11 proper setup) this laptop is very handy and quick. Screenwise it is a bit dull, not so bright, not so sharp, not ips but lcd led (tn). Like I said for this price it is good enough and FullHD at least. This particular discounted priced model has no microSD slot, no fingerprint sensor and no backlit keyboard! This does not charge via usb type-c either. Its own charger is 45 watts capable one. Battery life with medium brightness, wifi on but other wireless hardwares off lasts about 4-5 hours with browsing the internet mostly reading articles. With FullHD video playback it drops to 3-4 hours. But my laptop is still brand new so battery test is not so reliable from me at this point. It could be better I think. No, it could not. It is not. All in all it is a great laptop and more importantly you can upgrade some components later on. And it would be better if you do. 1 TB hdd, wifi 6 card, 8 gb ddr4 ram cost about 80 pounds together. Maybe the wifi antenna is just 1*1 in the machine but it can be easily upgradable to 2*2. (Easily means it is easy for those who are not beginners with repairing/disassemle laptops.) (edited)

I have the 14" version of this with the i3-1115G4. Performance is good and the screen is fine too. I think it is IPS but I can double check later

It feels a little cheap, like very hollow so when typing you can hear the sound of the plastic cover moving/compressing.

Also the thing I hate most that almost made me return it is the US enter key (it is UK layout with the £ sign, but it has that wide enter key that US layouts have)

I don't know why manufacturers do this but it's really annoying.

But for the price (I paid the same price for a slightly better CPU but less storage and a smaller screen) it's pretty solid. Much better than the ones with Celerons you would usually get at this price

    Edit: monitor is panelook.com/N14…tml (edited)

Costs $$ to tool up two different keyboard baseplate layouts. so you get tricks to get a workable layout from the same base.

Would this be able to play Minecraft? Looking for cheap laptop up to £350 for 9 yr old birthday.

Yes should be able to. Won't run any crazy high settings but will definitely run - may need to turn down how many chunks render if he wants 60fps. Online suggestion of 6 being a good limit.

Will run other basic games too but may struggle a little with some unless you upgrade ram to 12gb (though running the default 4+4 is also beneficial as they are the same amount in each ram slot) (edited)

Currys offers this laptop for the same price but with TCB you can get 5.5% cashback. Not a lot of money but still 13 pounds. Not sure about delivery fee but I think for this price it is free

That's true, £11.41 as it's calculated on the price excl VAT. That deal was also posted yesterday.

Keyboard seems dull in the photos - is it? Thanks.

Keyboard feels hard plastic, middle strength pressure, bit noisy. Not as sofisticated as microsoft or apple, even lenovos keyboards but good to type on. Feels between old classic mechanical keyboards and modern low profile ones. Typing speed is mediocre. Touchpad is good not excellent. With tweaking settings the best you can get is a 80% smoothness of usage. According to apples solution. So trackpad is average in short.

A decent laptop did my third year uni degree on it. But I wouldn't say it's worth £250 probably £200

For 200 quids all you can get brand new is celeron laptops. Which are crap. So no, this is easily worth 250. And upgradeable from a Big brand company with software support so....

That must have been 2.5 to 3 years ago? Price-history tracking shows it fell in price from £400 for the first time only last Nov. (edited)
