As ridden by the local dentist doing about 13mph on the country lanes. Preferably paired with a rapha jersey and shorts.

Over £5k and not even DuraAce?

Ultegra used to be the Scrooge option back in the day

I heard a lot of bike mechanics don't like working on these due to the very complex internal routing. Not a bike for the DIYer

My LBS seems to actually quite like working on this new tech, but agreed, not something I'm work on at home myself. Recently crashed my bike with the new di2 12 speed and had to replace the shifter. £360 for the part + £75 labour!

The tarmac has very unforgiving geometry designed for pros and racing snakes. I would personally avoid it, even with the discount.

Agree, if you have this kind of cash and want a specialised I'd choose the Aethos - my mate has one and did RideLondon in 4hr 12, so it's no slouch.

The thing is it's largely your mates fitness.. my mate rides a basic entry level boardman road bike with rim brakes and is rapid and quicker than most people on 6k bikes. It's largely the engine behind it 😁.

Classic comment.. most road bikes ship without pedals, nobody wants to spend 6k on a bike like this and ride it with crappy plastic pedals that may disentegrate with too much force. Also pedals are a very personal choice, some people like clipless some don't, and cycling shoes very with their cleat compatibility.

Your comment is very uneducated but pretty typical here

    Daniel789:

Absolutely, all I meant was in terms of aerodynamics it's not going to make a difference which model you ride.

My bad I misread your comment, yes I agree.. personally I ride a caad13 rim brake and its surprisingly quick with after market wheels, I don't feel left out at all riding an aluminium frame. The aethos is an amazing bike though! (edited)
