Does anyone know if the 6 months instant ink has to be activated right away or can it be done any time? I bought this printer couple of months ago from Amazon but haven't opened it yet

It’s should be fine, I did mine and selected the 700 page options for 6 months it was all free trail and then you can downgrade before trail end to move back to your normal plan (edited)

    Consider the T&C carefully.
If your use case fits the Instant Ink Plus model its a great deal, but be aware if you activate Instant Ink then you also commit to keeping the printer online and HP WILL use updates to lock out non HP cartidges. The clone cart companies have no yet managed to break the coding on HP chips on artidges, and HP do update their lockout mechanisms so even if you cancel the subscription you may not be able to use non HP carts.

I have been reading that Brother are now pulling some shady practices to force people to buy their expensive inks. I was reading of a person whose colour laser printer started misaligning the different (non genuine) coloured inks, making anything using colour come out blurred. The called Brother and the reason that the problem started was a firmware upgrade and the fix is to simply use genuine inks.

Sorry, I wouldn't touch a HP with a barge pole. AFWIK, if you sign up for instant ink the firmware will be updated meaning it won't work without an instant ink subscription.

To be fair, after HP have been taken to court a few times over this, HP are now very clear about telling you up front that if you take up the Instant Ink offer then they will lock out non HP carts.

As I said later on if the Instant Ink model fits your printing use its a nice deal, especially if you dont print much each month and the carts may dry up between use.

After buying two of these over 2 years you can shove the hp and it's instant ink. The app must have been designed by kids.
Won't connect to WiFi or multiple devices.
Customer service is good though refunded me

Terrible printer which is a Trojan Horse for the HP ink subscription- mine ran out of ink after 50 pages of A4

Got some experience with this if need advice you welcome
1 do not buy "cheap" printer first check what cartridges it is have because they have very small ink I have bought in the past similar price and after 10 pages A4 full colour images the was little ink left.
The problem printer still telling that all ok you can print but when I printed some colour was gone and lines etc....
Then you can request or printer will send notification that new cartridges will arrive but it is take 1 week time or more .
2 When Printer in instant ink mode it is change setting to save mode and default setting to save mode
So i was annoyed when HP saving on instant ink but when you are not they printing on high quality settings by default
3 To print text only on instant ink is to expensive better have black laser printer will be cheaper
4 Print A4 on photo quality paper is not bad on instant ink I mean I was on they cheap plan 100 pages
so Imagine printing Photo album A4 size images after couple albums printing was bored as none is looking these days albums all digital

I still have now but it is using for kids school project prints i set on the cheapest plan £2.99 and it is ok

The only problem with ink printer is that heads dry out if not printed regularly will be damaged "blocked " and when you print you will have not nice print with lines etc ....

the instant ink can be cheap to print A4 full colour images but smart person will be investing more money to laser printer

The printer these days buying not by printer price, but buy cartridges price (edited)
