This seems to be 1 kitchen gadet too far!

It's great for older people who may have issues lifting a kettle with boiling water. Also good for people who have issues lifting too.

A smaller model available £32, mother-in-law has poor eyesight so it’s a fantastic safer device than a standard kettle. If you need more than 2 cups it’s easier with a kettle amazon.co.uk/Bre…c=1

My mum, who has poor sight and struggles with a normal kettle has managed to break 2 of these. The button slips out of position I'm guessing she tries to press it in the wrong place. I have the older version of the op, as I'm disabled and it's great.

Got one of these in the garage. Really useful. However now energy prices are so high I have a 1.9L Stanley legendary thermo flask and I boil a full kettle and store it in that to use through the day. I suspect it uses less energy than boiling just one cup as the element isn't being heated/cooling and wasting all that heat each time. It also saves quite a bit of waiting for it to boil even when using the HotCup.

Can someone tell me what the temps of the water are like? I love piping hot tea, but fear this won't do it hot enough, does it ctually boil water or heat to a certain temperature?

It is always piping hot 🔥

I've got an old version of this, does anyone know if this still makes the horrific noise as it dispenses?

Do you mean it sounds like a kettle boiling?

had mine for about 5 years ... still going strong, needs descaling quite a lot, but other than that really useful... , about time they brought out a new model (edited)

Top tip, put a bit of water in and some vinegar (half as much) let boil, will need rinsing

These are great if making one or two cups. Bit of a pain if you’re regularly making more than that at a time. Boil is really quick though. I usually start mine and it’s a race to get the coffee and milk in mug before it’s boiled.

I’ve had both. These take 10s longer than the smaller one. This one had to go last year as metallic debris started appearing in the output even after washing it throughly literally 50x. It appeared like a chrome coating was disintegrating slowly internally. When I asked about it, CS basically avoided the question, said it was out of warranty and when prompted again, advised not to use it again. I was surprised that they didn’t want to investigate the device in case it was a safety issue. You wouldn’t necessarily notice it as you will only see it in a white cup with no tea/coffee and a thought to check. I didn’t take it apart to investigate, just thought it was better to report and bin. Maybe this is why (tube/pipe comment) reviewcentre.com/rev…tml

It boils the right amount for a cuppa, a kettle cant do that, so your boiling more and not using the water, which cost more.
    johnthehuman's avatar
A kettle only boils what you put in it, if you put a cups-worth in, it'll boil that.

That said these are indeed a great idea for people with limited control or strength, parents use one since they can't easily lift a kettle, and fill up the reservoir using a little jug.

Great too they start leaking from the bottom or the spring in the lid goes. Had two now trying the newer slightly smaller on hopefully will last longer.

I have both those problems with mine, but I'd still buy one again.

Had this for nearly 10 years ( older model) never given us any problems… still going strong

Superb devices, however once our old one started to leak from the bottom we replaced it with a newer model (with the red lights) however after only a week or so started to only deliver half a cup no matter what the selector on top was set to.

We bought my parents one, which had the blue light, and it also stopped dispensing a full cup after a short while, we tried to replace it with the more angular looking model, and exactly the same happened again. In all cases, de-scaling made no difference.

Not sure if there's something different in the way the newer models cut off, but it's something to be aware of. Fingers crossed it's something they can fix in the design as I'd definitely like to get one again!

We have one at work. Faster than boiling a kettle and saves energy as you’re only boiling exactly the amount of water you need

I've bought a new one as I did say to myself if they went to £40 I would. The one I have is about 12 years old I think. Leaks, limescale everywhere despite descaling, and the hinge is broke. Despite this I would chose this over and over again. Its great to be able to press it and pop off for a mo if needed and not having to keep flicking the kettle back on. I may try just using filtered water in the new one.
