My non-verbal and severely Autistic 7-year-old loves hers. She has Sensory Processing Disorder, too, along with other hidden disabilities. At that price, if you have a child with similar disabilities, it might be worth a punt. It's still £31 at most other retailers, which is what we originally paid for it. It's already one of the most sought-after toys in the US, this Christmas, too. (edited)

    Is this like a tamagotchi?

Bitzees are similar to Tamagotchis, but while Tamagotchis are confined to LCD screens, Bitzee characters give the impression of floating in mid-air. Every Bitzee starts as a pixelated puppy, and through interaction and care from kids, it evolves into an adult and eventually a super Bitzee. These advanced Bitzees wear unique outfits that unlock a simple video game, playable on their floating display. Over time, more Bitzee characters get unlocked, with each device housing up to 15, allowing kids to switch between them at will. Unlike Tamagotchis, which tragically die if neglected, Bitzees will just pack up and leave, although they can be coaxed back with treats and attention.

Children are advised to handle the flapping LED strip with care, avoiding poking or pulling it, as it's not as robust as contemporary touchscreens. However, they are encouraged to engage with their digital pets by softly tapping them on the head. Interaction with the Bitzee characters can also be achieved by shaking the device, tilting it, or swiping a finger across a touch-sensitive strip at the base of the toy. This strip also serves to navigate the toy's simple menu system. (edited)

Been waiting on this!! Everywhere has been adamant this wouldn't come down in price. Thanks!

Just be aware that it runs on AAA batteries which I doubt would last long. We had a tamagotchi pix that caned it through batteries and cost a fortune. It was like using your mobile with AA batteries.

It's a good point. The batteries don't last long in our experience. Worth stocking up on some Varta batteries if Amazon has any deals on them today or over the Black Friday weekend for anyone considering buying a Bitzee.

Apparently, they're like gold dust in Australia at the moment due to unprecedented demand. If you're on the lookout for one this Christmas, you might be best to pay full price (£31) for the sake of a few quid to avoid missing out.

That said, someone on Facebook said last night that they picked one up for £26 in-store at ASDA yesterday, so if the £24.99 deal doesn't return at Argos, it might be worth checking your local ASDA. (edited)

A V2 with an internal battery would cost more.
