Damn that will be annoying if you make a slight measurement / set square / base levelling mistake at the start lol.

    Also factor in -

A few thousand for a concrete damp proofed base

A few thousand for electric connections

A few thousand probably for water connections

10K for a septic tank installation unless you have mains waste to connect to?

A thousand or so for proper external quality wood treatment

Cost of planning permission, read a story of someone building a 2 story one of these to rent out like a air b and b and had to pull it down as didn't get permission... at least he had a few years of fire wood lol

It all mounts up but then if you come to sell you will most likely Need a cash buyer as mortgage companies only like brick/ stone built houses...

    But Looks cool

And don't forget the roof covering. cheapest option bitumen shingles which will cost at least 3k and installation. I have built many of this type of building in the past and you cannot do it on your own.
This will cost you over 200k when all said and done IMO

Is there anywhere that these are actually set up and built in the UK? I just want a nosey around one tbh
    andyyandyy's avatar
I believe they did a pilot in Bristol where people could buy a plot of land and then have your own house built there but its very rare as councils make more money using new build companies

Perfect for cost of living crisis, going to set up in Hyde park

That's too open & congested. Try Great Windsor Park. Might get view of a 🏰 chucked in for free? (edited)

If I had lots of money and some land I'd turn this into my man cave. Each room would have different themes. One room could be a cinema / music room

    What isn't?

I'd rather build a cob house for a fraction of the cost, and hides much better for when the council does aerial photos to find stuff to rip down (edited)
    jumpinoffthbed's avatar
    Council doing aerial photos
you could send them your own aerial photos and invite them for tea and they still wouldn't come round
We've been reporting a 13 acre field that's been turned into an industrial site with no permission for about 5 years now (edited)

Good luck with getting a mortgage for a place like this and a plot of land. Otherwise, great idea.
    steve123uk's avatar
Don't need a mortgage if you pay outright

Ordered for my dog. The poor dog has been sleeping in the same bedroom as me. Time to get him something a bit nicer.

I am only posting a comment on here as I don't remember ever seeing a deal for this much money on HUKD. Also, free delivery!!
  22. Tedman's avatar
Worth every penny. Building regs may be tricky and will probably need more money spent to make it compliant. Probably mortgage issues with future buyers but if you just plan to live on it on a farm or something this is a serious a contender to an actual traditional build.
    quinno1977's avatar
Can you get your builders to contact me, I would love to see a 5 bed house built below 250-300k.
  23. jungleboy123's avatar
im not sure what % of HUKD members will have access to land to be able to build this on. Secondly, wouldnt it be better / cheaper to do an extension or just buy a house up north lol?
    adamkan's avatar
Everyone on HUKD is loaded through all the regular savings made on here or more likely broke through all the additional spending they never intended to do.

Wonder how this is classified by planning, is it a temporary building or permanent? If its temporary it opens up a world of opportunities to stick it on land a permanent structure wouldn't be given permission to.
    M_z's avatar
It'll surely be permanent? It will need foundations of some sort, and you won't be moving it once it's erected.

Just need a perfectly manicured forest to go wit it.
  29. Azeem1's avatar
I wonder what the lifespan of these are - How many years would it last?
    Rhakio's avatar
People live in wooden houses and they still standing even after 100 years, in many place in Europe you can still find old houses insulated with moss. If they are well preserved without any problem several decades

Interesting cabin, I think the future will be cheap SIP modular houses, I noticed some being sold on Ebay and they offer a construction service too. The company is based in Ukraine I believe, no idea if the house would meet UK building regs etc... but interesting to see whats around.

E.g. this kit and build is just under £105k obviously it will need more work to finish it but you get the idea.

Eurhome is another company, but I'm not sure if they cover UK.

If it’s anything like the insulated summer houses it’ll still be absolutely freezing
    TomEames's avatar
No this should be a lot better 44mm dual boards sandwiched insulation. Most summerhouses will be single board 18mm with insulation. This should be fairly warm.

Can I pay with Klarna? Spread the cost over 3 months ya know
  34. T67's avatar
This reminds me of the story of the three little pigs. The one who built his house out of bricks came off best in the end. This house may well be good value for money but to know thy at, you would need to compare it with the cost of building and heating an equivalent house of brick.
    deleted2460409's avatar
Go to Norway, they seem to do OK with these type of houses?
  35. loopz's avatar

Would want to get a buildings insurance quote. Timber framed homes have increased insurance cost, all log homes would surely take a hit?
    Arc's avatar
Haven't most new houses built in estates since the '80s been timber framed? (with brick skin) Mine is. Insurance is normal. Probably because rebuilding cost is low (cheaply built to start with, though not as cheaply as this all wood prefab).
  38. komi's avatar
What would the labour cost be?
    DZone's avatar
    This is a DIY job.
  39. SLukeS's avatar
Bargain for a house that says it meets UK building regs ! ... just add land, foundations, services & applicable planning costs and allow for the regular maintenance that any timber building would need !
    adamkan's avatar
Maintaining my shed is a pain every year never mind a wooden house this size. But a fast way into an Airbnb business for sure
