Sliding mitre saw with laser. Seems to have pretty decent reviews and cheaper than a compound mitre saw of the same brand.

    Is Guild a rebranded Ryobi?
    sambartle's avatar
Cordless Guild tools are currently made by Positec (so not Ryobi rebrands but Worx)..

I have a page here with some of the other clones in the cordless tools market if you are interested.. sambartle.co.uk/positec_dupes

However the Guild 'brand' is probably owned by Argos/Sainsbury's and licensed to the tool manufacturer, so different OEMs could make guild tools anytime. So TTI (Ryobis parent), could well be making some of them and maybe the corded are a different manufacturer.

That said I think this saw is probably positec as I think it's a close cousin to the Evolution one. (Who seem to be in some way related to positec - or may actually be a separate brand who use positec for some tools and someone else for others.. .)

Who knows though.. tool manufacturing is basically a load of Chinese or Taiwanese mega corporations cloning each other and buying up old brands, so it really could be anyone. (edited)

For anyone buying this who are new to mitre saws, it's worth having a look on YouTube for instructions how to check and calibrate it.

Lots of cheap mitre saws aren't calibrated very well out of the box, but can be adjusted quite easily to make them more accurate (not sure about this one in particular but I suspect it'll be the case here too).

Probably won't matter much for some jobs but for anything where accuracy is important, it's worth investing a few minutes to check it and recalibrate if necessary.

Just Google mitre saw calibration and there are tons of guides out there.

Bought this today its a single bevel saw not a double, so will do 45 deg cuts only one way. I went on argos faqs for this product and a staff member stated it was double bevel. Other than that a decent enough saw for the price

I have a non slide guild one for occasional use. I'm buying this as I've had no issues with my existing one.

    Just ordered , thank you
  12. F.W's avatar
Thank you ordered. Please can someone clarify if "The tool has a sawing capacity of up to 60mm deep." means it can cut wood that is 6cm in depth?
    ockyjimd's avatar
You are correct, I can’t see any maximum width cut measurements though, likely to be close to 200mm.

I feel a bit cheated given then fact I paid £550 for my Makita double bevel sliding mitre saw last year and now you can get one for as little as £63
    slimjimjim80's avatar
Don't feel too bad because you'd need this and two of the compound mitre saws (2x £76) to do what the fancy Makita does (edited)
  14. jbaro's avatar
Can this do angled cuts ? Am I asking that right
    GDB2222's avatar
The answer is yes - probably, depending on what you mean. It doesn't just do cuts at 90 degrees, straight across the wood. Plus, you can cant the blade away from the vertical.

How's the laser on this? I'm not a chippy but I do alot of wood work. Skirting, studding, door frames etc. Normally pinched the other guys on site (a mate) but he's leaving soon so need something to just "tick the boxes" (edited)

In stock in Exeter,, out of stock for delivery to Torbay, great price - anything under £100 is preinflation price.
  18. tinfoilhat's avatar
it's cheap but you still need a mitre saw table?
  19. garyr9688's avatar
    Anywhere cheap for replacement blades?
    slimjimjim80's avatar
    Amazon, screwfix, toolstation.
Whatever you need a blade for, always check the reviews.

Just ordered. Had a Guild circular saw for a while, never had any issues. Got a couple of DIY projects in the pipeline so this is perfect!
  21. Charleneyoung's avatar
For a beginner to DIY - would this be okay for cutting panelling for my hallway? Various angles going up the stairs will this do the trick?
    slimjimjim80's avatar
This will work quite well for that.
  22. Proveright's avatar
Thanks OP Good price for what it is. However read all the reviews first, they are terrible. Pay more and get a better one.
    vutuubunn's avatar
What are you on? I thought the reviews were quite glowing. 4.7 out of 5 from 150+ reviews most of them praising how good it is. Just a few complaints about the laser and guard and both can be adjusted.
  23. united4eva's avatar
Stonking deal... Cheers OP.. I'm hoping this is good enough for some DIY and a bit cleaner /safer than a standard circulating saw.

Awesome deal for a sliding mitre saw. Not seen one as cheap as this ever. Usually £90 is the very lowest price for one in the sale.
  25. neil.topham's avatar
Nearest stock for me is over 60 miles away

not sure if I will need it, but after getting this heat and so many comments I decided to buy it with extra £5 discount ! hopefully I'll use it
    IYBYISYL's avatar
Exactly the same here...ordered ..collection on monday..for £58 it's a nice addition to the DIY tool shed.. 🏻
  29. david.hartland's avatar
is the wickes 1800w version s more superior saw compared to this one? would pay the extra if it was?
    IYBYISYL's avatar
I pondered on same David. I couldnt see it in the specs tbh and so to my mind the plus £27 wasnt justified. However just my view. (edited)
  30. thelukeburnett's avatar
£58! Absolute bargain. Was just about to buy one from Wickes and even that wasn't close with TradePro. This will do nicely for my kitchen architrave and skirting. Cheers!
  31. IYBYISYL's avatar
Used mine for the first time yesterday.. quite impressed for £58. (edited)
