Worthwhile to take a look if this applies to your account! The big change/today's deal: Today they seem to have unofficially opened it up to the past 12 months. I picked up 55K avios for about half the cost of buying them at the regular price for non boost purchase.

Avios boost usually allows you to buy avios points at £0.0092/avios for points balances earned within the last 30 days (e.g. Points earned through a BA avios Amex) up to 3x the points earned in that period. It's half as expensive as buying avios and cheaper than subscribing to avios. It seems to have opened up to the past 12 months earned avios

vs the normal £0.01295/avios when you subscribe yearly to 20K avios - paid monthly (1,666/month deposited into your account)

Or the normal purchase prices buying avios ranging from £0.021/avios and not improving much, even when accounting for their semi annual 40% bonus points promo that recently ended. Even with that promo the price was 143% the boost price.

Regular price of purchasing avios
5K £105 (47.62avios/£) £0.021/avios
10K £195 (51.28avios/£)
15K £279 (53.76avios/£)
20K £369 (54.20avios/£)
25K £459 (54.47avios/£)
30K £545 (55.05avios/£) £0.018/avios

FYI No, I don't work for BA, avios, etc. I just like deals.

BONUS TIPS FOR MORE FREE AVIOS
You can exchange nectar points to avios at a rate of 400nectar:250avios. I usually get 100avios+about 800nectar points on a £100 Sainsbury's shop with buying bonus nectar items and a 3x nectar voucher that always seems to be available to me, so about 600avios/shop after conversion. If you sign up for "avios for thoughts" you can get points for completing surveys and also boost those points at a rate of 0.0092/avios. I usually do a few a week while watching something.

WHY GO THROUGH THE TROUBLE
I recently booked a 2 person return flight LHR-Tokyo Haneda direct for £560+companion voucher+50K avios (most of which I received from credit card spend and nectar points). Very affordable in my opinion at just £280/pp out of pocket! The regular BA price for the direct flight with luggage included was £4,200 (fairly typical for 2 direct tickets return from hearthrow to Tokyo, with stopover flights being a bit cheaper). My voucher + 50K avios gave £3,640off & a nearly 87% discount. It's basically opened up the world of travel for my family. If your partner or friend also gets a BA Amex, you'll get 2 companion vouchers each year.

You'd have to have limited math skills to ever boost by 1x or 2x given the price is higher. You should always select a lower amount and boost 3x.
    ivadeal's avatar
Good point, not all people consider all the mathematical combinations available.

Using avios for flights from LHR or LGW to European destinations in Club Europe is a great way to use them. Lounge access, no middle seat used, champagne and a nice meal for 8500 avios and £25 each way is a good deal in anyone’s estimation
    dudedude's avatar
It would be better to go for the 6500 + £42.50 option. And it's not 'European destinations', but specifically zone 1, i.e. UK, Ireland, France, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, plus Bilbao, Milan, Gothenburg, Prague, Luxembourg, Innsbruck, Salzburg.

At 0.92p it works out at £205 or £230 return in Club.

It would work out £123 or £132 on the same plane for Economy with Avios, so it works out £40-£50 each way. Which is not necessarily a no-brainer - a 7am 40 minute flight and you're basically paying £40 for a croissant and a priority seat, which even Ryanair wouldn't charge that much for.

OTOH you sometimes find availability in economy but not club or vice versa, and competing options can cost more, so it's worth having the option. Just wouldn't agree that it's always a good deal at all.

Great description, and loved the Tokyo deal. Planning on doing a trip to Japan in 2025 for a big birthday treat!

One other way I maximise on Avios is Airbnb. Go through the executive club store to get points too. Most of mine last year were this method. Great as Airbnb are not on cashback sites!

    britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/collecting-avios/hotels/airbnb

Word of warning though, I’ve had a couple of Airbnb stays not credited as it didn’t track, and their support is trash! (edited)

Can anyone shed some light on this in basic terms , As i don't understand how it works
    Marc007's avatar
Can add 1,2 or 3x to your total of non boosted avios from 2023. There is a slider once you login to show you the extra avios you would get and the price you would pay.

51958749-1AauD.jpgEssentially, best value is x3 anything less that 300k

    Around £90 per 10k avios
    dumplingwrestler's avatar
This table should go right at the top.

Its ok value assuming you actually need that many Avios...

I have 2 Avios accounts (USA and UK) and have spent some time looking at this for both. Even at the boosted rate it seems to be like your getting £1 of value for £1 spent. Usually buying points is incredibly expensive - guessing they are selling to people who need a small amount of points to complete a booking for example. This is making it "fair" but still does not represent compelling value. I have also found that if you have a large number of points 50k+, you often cannot use them all in one go. For example on a recent flight to Florida, I was able to redeem about a maximum of £40 of points on a £400 ticket. As others have observed, BA can change their Avios policy as they see fit so I wouldn't go heavy into this regardless!

You need to log in and select book with avois to get good prices

I got 2 return tickets to Tokyo in may (peak season) with a companion voucher for £560 +50k avios

If you're just using the regular booking system it just gives minor discounts for using your avios (edited)

Tempting, but I’ll have to pass on this occasion

That's interesting. My 3x boost is almost exactly half your avios boost (606,819) but they're 'only' asking for £8,190.70 for those 606k avios. I think the more you boost by the worse value you get per avios.

My 1x boost comes out at 0.96p per avios
    2x boost is 1.15p
    3x boost is 1.35p

    Your 3x boost is 1.56p

I saw the option to boost the entire year until last night. This morning, when I want to complete the transaction, I am only seeing Dec 2023 transactions. Anybody else facing this issue?

    Good deal, heated added.
    Raspy's avatar
Working now in case nobody has noticed.
  10. private2012's avatar
anyone had any issues with boosting, says "you dont have any transactions at the moment" when i know i do!
    ory84's avatar
They must have an issue, I can only see 2024 transactions now. This wasn't the case on Thursday when I looked. Probably someone put the wrong midnight in the system for the end date
Edit: I have contacted support and they are aware - they recommended trying again throughout the day. (edited)

Thanks for posting this... Just boosted my avios by 100k!
    pkothuri's avatar
    so you paid £920 ?
  12. SportsMan81's avatar
Is the boost the multiplied value + original, or incorporates the original number in boosted result?

    e.g. 20,000 avios, boosted at x3 = 60,000 + 20,000 or just 60,000?
    ISave5PoundsAMonth's avatar
    60k + 20k

You can also use Avios directly on the Qatar Airlines and Vueling Airlines website now too. It's not heavily advertised, but if you join up on each website, the Avios in your British Airways account can be used to pay for flights.

We changed from virgin to start collecting avios middle of last year, but when we search for flights using avios nothing ever comes up…always says error on nothing available. How the hell are you supposed to be able to find flights with BA..have just been awarded companion flight also.Thinking of switching back to Virgin as at least finding reward flights are easier with them.
    Funkmeister_'s avatar
Same here. Looking for flights to Tokyo literally a year from now and nothing is available.
  15. jamesgreeley's avatar
I have no idea how you found those flights so cheap.

Am I doing something wrong? thats for 2 people with companion voucher.

Simpleton alert, I don’t have a mathematical mindset and don’t understand how this works at all.
I’ve got approx 26k avios with the option to boost approx 5k worth of avios from 2023 purchases (up to x3 if I want to).
Is there any point in me doing it? 5k avios looks like small beer compared to numbers I am seeing quoted on here.

I used 20K avios to get flights to Bucharest at a time when they were 1000 pounds each for 70 return (mostly because discount carriers all went bust and only 2 airlines fly there anymore)

still there are deals to be had. Get a companion voucher and make it 2 for 1 flights as well (edited)
  17. TheChiefExecutive's avatar
For anyone with buyers remorse the boost T&C state you can request a refund within 14 days using the link in your purchase email. Obviously you mustn't have spent/redeemed any of them in the meantime.

This might also help anyone undecided before tonight's midnight promotion end. You could go ahead and purchase and then if you change your mind request a refund within 14 days.

I've done the boost a few times since it launched in June and used this to boost some from earlier in the year. I do have a specific goal for my redemption with a Companion Voucher. It is the lowest cost way currently to get avios without getting them for 'free' with credit card spend or points back spend.
  18. adriandocherty's avatar
Rip off! Anyone paying cash for avioS needs their head examined.

I have a million and can never redeem them. Well, not “never” but hardly ever. And it’s getting worse. BA is deteriorating. Flew business to HK in October and it was dismal.

Keep your cash and spend it on decent airlines.

One exception: occasionally European flights like Geneva or Majorca are incredibly expensive for cash like £200 each way and yet are available for say 10,000 Avios, maybe even business class for that. It’s worth it and that’s generally where I spend my avioS.

If you hate avios so much give them to me
  19. jd121's avatar
Sorry if this has already been asked. So can I boost my avios (around 7k) 3x then convert to nectar points? Mine have been accumulated via my credit card
    supervalue's avatar
Yes, but you would likely lose money doing that so I wouldn't recommend it. The Avios will cost more to buy with the 3 x boost than the nectar points are normally worth. Though if you're planning to use them for a nectar promo where they double up or something like that it could be worthwhile.
(£2.76 to buy 300 Avios with 3 x boost would convert to 400 nectar points worth £2) (edited)

At what point is a flight to Tokyo £4000 hahahaha. Geezus. And a stopover flight slightly cheaper. What 3 grand to sit in Abu dabhi for 5 hours? This is insane if you think you got a deal
    Sam223's avatar
    Probably in business

Just bought another 100,000 Avios points on this. Let’s hope BA don’t devalue their worth now

Don't you have a redemption to make? I thought they had already changed, it's now 200k Avios + £450 fees/taxes to the US east coast.

  23. finknottle's avatar
My gosh airline loyalty is a constantly mutating load of faff, I’ll go to some serious lengths to save money but don’t know how people have the time and energy to do it. Especially when there’s often so little to differentiate the big established carriers with loyalty schemes from budget outfits charging a fraction of the price, unless you’re flying business — e.g. British Airways treating their passengers like cattle, not so much as a sandwich included, etc.
    MrCharcutier's avatar
Fair point but the sweet spot for avios redemptions is exactly that, flights in Business/First, which if you do your research beforehand can save you thousands vs the cash price of the tickets.
  24. Moles.Family's avatar
Thanks for that. Shame is only valid for a couple more days as I would boost a lot more but managed to boost to the 14,000 shortfall I had to bag another trip.
  25. coops153's avatar
I don't think I understand how this works. I have around 20,000 avios which when I booked a holiday said that I could use it take about £70 off the price of the holiday. So why would I want to boost it by 40,000 points for £380? Seems like I am massively losing out?
    jetstreamer's avatar
Using Avois the way you suggest is not good value. Rather than using them to take money off a cash fare you need to look at reward flights. These are capacity controlled and you need flexibility in terms of dates to find something that works. But that is where the real value is to be had.
  26. Sam223's avatar
Op your tokyo flights in club world i assume?
  27. TheJMan's avatar
Would only buy if you're gonna use fairly soon. Always the risk of devaluation or even bust
    RogPJ's avatar
I don’t think that bust is likely, but I know that a lot of people lost out when Air Miles converted to Avios and also when they changed the Avios structure a couple of years ago
  28. Lloyd's avatar
Great info in your post. I’ve never bought extra Avios though. I have an upcoming holiday that I booked with about 160K Avios. 2 adults, business class flights (used upgrade voucher), London to Sharm El-Sheikh, all inclusive 4star hotel. Total cost £2 (£1 tax each). Really have to keep looking for Avios flight availability!

Thanks for posting, this looks like a fab deal. Has this happened before? Just thinking that this year might not be the best year for expenses so if this deal has come around before, it may again?

But having said that, I took out the card in the last 12mths and got a 70k bonus, so currently my 3x boost gives me 310k avios for under £3000.....

this is the first year that boost has been offered

I wonder if it'll stick around for future years! too good a deal compared to buying or subscribing
  30. Manya1983's avatar
Is it likely to be pulled? Don’t want to go too early on it if there are ways to maximise. Currently got about 160k AVIOS with boost
    xybp9's avatar

no idea. There's nothing official on any of their websites, no press releases, and no "head for points" posts etc.

IMHO better to get in before the door closes (if it does!)
  31. Manya1983's avatar
I think it’s a promo whereby they’ll let you boost any AVIOS earned over prior 12 months but I locked it in now as at present it lets me boost previously boosted AVIOS so didn’t want to risk losing out on that.
  32. Manya1983's avatar
I boosted about 100k last night. Have four seats to accomodatenand 200k AVIOS balance doesn’t really go all that far!
  33. garryc1981's avatar
Its telling me i dont have any transactions to boost but i have never boosted before and have collected about 20k avios in 2023. Anybody any ideas?
    loueylemon's avatar
No advice but it shows the same on my account
  34. aerotec's avatar
Can boost up to 300k at about 0.92p per Avios which I rate as a good price if you are going to redeem for Club/First. Some have reported no transactions showing but logging in later they then appeared.

You can boost beyond 300k in a year but the cost per Avios rises so it doesn't become worthwhile.
  35. Gamblor64's avatar
Useful if you've got a trip that you're going to book immediately but otherwise I'd pass at this price.
    uwutm8y's avatar
Agreed, don't fancy boosting for a few thousand quid ..
  36. uma85's avatar
Can anyone confirm that if we already have avios in our account we can boost them or is this offer is for only when you buy avois?
    madeyoulook's avatar
it's any avios in your account earned in 2023. If you go to the boost page and proceed, it will show you all eligible avios you can boost and allow you to select/deselect any to change your calaculation.
  37. pototea's avatar
I've booked a BA holiday and paid the deposit. Can I boost my balance then add another payment instalment using Avios??

I can buy 1,125 Avios for £10.35 so 0.9p per Avios. (edited)
