Ask for salad on the side, this way you get more meat in the kebab

Its not main meals as title suggests. Its "mains". Meal price with fries and drink is £8.98.

Admin changed the title. I specifically stated 'Mains' only. Luckily they didn't tinker with the description which clarifies the deal and the cost of any add-ons. (edited)

We started going to German Doner last summer, but the last few times they've gone downhill with badly inconsistent meat portion sizes, and made a lot of mistakes such has forgetting to put one of the meats in a chicken and beef kebab. It's a shame because when they get things right we really enjoy their kebabs, and far better than the nutter who runs my local kebab shop.

I used to buy one regular and one extra meat but it never seemed particularly big. One day I weighed them when I got home and the extra meat one was around 6 grams heavier. Definitely never paid for extra meat again

Fries and a soft drink for £3 is a rip off, the bogof was a better deal - agree with what some others have said, can be a bit hit and miss this place.

If you take this offer and add on fries and drink it comes in at £8.98 yet Meal Deal for 1 is £8.49??

German Doner Kebab's deals seem to have been getting progressively more generous at time goes on. That's not how these things tend to go which makes me feel they're not doing to well. I quite like them, deceptively filling but without that feeling that you're eating 500% of your daily calorie intake like you get with standard kebabs.

Now if only we'd get French tacos over here...

Doesn't work for me. Should come to about £15 but discount not applying.

Like I stated above, Admin changed the title and added Meal to the title. It's only Mains

Got one today at lunch. Asked for it without tomatoes. Felt like I got a decent amount of chicken in mine

An unusual fact about German Doner Kebab is that it's actually a Glaswegian company based in that city. Who'd have thought it was a Scottish company with a name like that.

It's owned by the family of the leader of the Labour party in Scotland. (edited)

I don't think I'd be massively surprised if they've gone out of business by this time next year. I like a good kebab as much as the next person but their ones aren't anything special and you're paying for the gimmicky bits on top.

There's nothing gimmicky about their regular kebab, which is delicious with a great salad and the nicest garlic sauce I've ever tasted anywhere, and leagues better quality than my local kebab place. My only issue is recent inconsistent portion sizes, where you get two kebabs and one has half the meat missing.

What it should be priced at really , I’ll take a visit at this price
    RedXI's avatar
At my local I think the price of a regular kebab recently went up from 6.99 to 7.49.

The 50% off 3 weeks ago was a better deal. Sadly, I missed it as they unexpectedly pulled the promo at 5pm on Friday, had been waiting all week to order it for Friday night.

Someone should get the Döner Company franchise (donercompany.nl/ass…en/) to the UK. Much better than this chain.

My local have been charging £8.99 for the mains recently so decent saving if GDK is your thing. I know it's a bit of a Marmite thing for some. (edited)

I hate kebabs, but this has reminded me to check the January food deals in Manchester, so heat added for that

Ooh love the mix at cafe Istanbul Bridge Street

They're good if you like salad. The meat is see through thin and you don't get much of it.

Wasn't the mains buy one get one free in last year January?
  19. sivilis3d's avatar
Maybe it's a branch issue (doubt it judging by the comments), but their chicken doner is devoid of any flavour. Just doused in sauced to give it some semblance of taste.
  20. TechnoDonkey's avatar
Decent price but there’s nothing in the least bit gourmet about the meat in GDK.
    SuperSaiyanVader_'s avatar
good thing then because the G in GDK doesnt stand for gourmet

Haven’t recently been to Berlin and tried the Kebab - there’s nothing least in the bit German in the kebab apart from the name!
    BargainScavenger's avatar
I agree! and the real german doner kebab take aways are being taken to court by GDK!
  22. BargainScavenger's avatar
This company takes local kebab shops to court for simply stating their doner kebabs are "german sourced". They are despicable.
  23. Gozman's avatar
One day you can get the most delicious fresh doner, the next it tastes like it was cut from the gyro 3 days ago. Ridiculously inconsistent.

The GDK near me (Oldham) has been closed for what seems like over a year now, unsure why, possibly hygiene related as heard reports there was mice in there, if it's changed management or just gone through refurb, unsure. However, the portions seemed mediocre to me and the food didn't seem that great in the grand scheme of loaded chips and kebabs. You can get cheaper and bigger and tastier kebabs from takeaways, and as to how healthy they are, no one would buy that food for health reasons so I wouldn't class as a consideration.

So what’s the normal price? £8.99? Plus £2.99 to make it a meal?
