Don't bother, they'll make it obsolete in a year like they did Q1 when this came out.
    maxcovergold's avatar
Obsolete, non-sense. I have my Q2 alongside my Q3 and it still gets almost daily usage from my kids.
Currently they're playing the Assassin's Creed game when we're not playing together other games ( is the only ecosystem I'm aware of that allows you to buy one copy of a game and play online together ).
I'm actually tempted to get this deal for my parents in-law, who aren't local, so they can hang with the kids in something like Walkabout mini golf.

This is incredible value when you consider the controllers alone are worth in excess of £100.

Q2's are still the main customer base , so support is going to be around for years, but even in highly unlikely event that no new games came to Q2, the catalogue is so large it would still not be "obsolete". (edited)

    Edit: taken

Are these easy to connect to a PC? I have little interest in VR but want to play Half-Life: Alyx (edited)
    Alex_H's avatar
Yep. Either purchase a compatible usb cable or if your pc is hard wired to your router and you have decent WiFi in the room you want to use it, you can stream wirelessly from pc to headset.

I’ve never tried, or followed VR development. However it does sound interesting.
Anyone know if this is a good setup for a newbie. I’m presuming the Quest 3 is much better technically but is it worth the substantial increase.
Although I’m willing to wait and save up for the Q3 if it is considerably better than the Q2.
    Thanks

Recently got one of these second hand thinking it's a bit of a gimmick and it's not they're really fun.
The q3 has a lot of substantial upgrades to the quest 2 but as a trial I'd just get one off Facebook marketplace for £100 and try it out before making a decision to spend on the Q3.

What I will say is the battery life is terrible on the q2.
You do get motion sickness sometimes but with use that just disappeared.

It's a great bit of kit for a newbie though. (edited)

A stupid question but how do ppl with specs use VR? Specially far sighted folks.
    Fitzwiggle's avatar
The Quest 2 comes with a little plastic insert for people that wear glasses. It effectively moves the screen a tiny bit (5 - 10mm?) further away from the eyes to accommodate for glasses. Whilst not the most hi-tech bit of kit its perfectly usable for anyone wearing glasses.

I've owned Quest 2 for a couple of years now and it's a fantastic device to introduce VR (everyone who tried, loved it), however having had a play with my friend's Quest 3, it's significantly better in every way, especially the clarity of lenses and pretty much invisible "screen door".

If you can, wait for Q3 to come on offer or find a used one, it's well worth the price difference
    fishmaster's avatar
I sold my Q2 and bought the Q3. I absolutely hate the Q3. Biggest tech mistake of the year apart from buying some Edifier speakers. I just can't get on with the pancake lenses on the Q3. I should have sent it back but I didn't I need to use it more with some exercise apps but ugh I hate the thing.

I bought one of these second hand for £100 and not going to lie ITS SO MUCH FUN!
I'll be getting the Q3 for sure.

The games are kinda expensive but there's plenty of free ones out there.
In the meta horizon app you can watch some concerts.
The netflix and prime is quite cool however the battery isn't that great so would need to be plugged in while watching if a film.
YouTube have some amazing 360 videos like skydiving and such which is my introduction to VR to my mates that ain't gamers.
    I'd definitely recommend it.
    Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
I have mine plugged into a powerbank while i play, extends the battery life up to 6 hours.
  11. XP200's avatar
These are about to be dumped by FB, hence everyone trying to dump stock before it becomes offical as it seems a Q3 revised lite model is going to take the Q2 price range, but offer Q3 AR tech..........
    yhyhyhyhyh's avatar
Not sure what your point is? It's quite normal for products to be discontinued. It doesn't mean it's not going to be supported anymore or stop being functional. (edited)
  12. Gamblor64's avatar
Tempted to get into VR. Is the library of games for each branded device completely independent? Like Valve index can only play VR games released on Steam and quest can only play VR games released by Meta?

If that's the case do "big" games (e.g. saw somebody mention assassin's creed) get released on multiple platforms?
    kevor's avatar
Meta Quest owners have two options:

    1) To buy and play games from the Quest storefront. You can do this without owning a PC.

    2) To connect the device over wifi or cable with a gaming PC and play PCVR games through Steam or elsewhere.

For example, I might play graphically intense games on PCVR, but small rhythm games like Beatsaber on the device. The problem is once you buy a game on one platform you would have to pay again to have it on the other.

I only wanted (well, needed) VR for Half-Life Alyx, and it was an amazing experience with Q2, besides the incredibly disappointing change of voice actress. That said, I had absolutely zero interest in VR outside that one game, so I returned mine to Amazon in the same month. Looks like I made the right choice to return, as I haven't seen anything since that looks to make use of VR anywhere near the same scale as Alyx. (edited)
    Rick_fTk's avatar
I'm thinking of grabbing this for the kiddie's birthday and finally having a blast of Alyx as that Index isn't getting any cheaper! (edited)

they'll be giving this away for free soon at this rate.

I keep hearing this story on lots of other devices. Still, I've not seen any freebies.

Quest 3 lite may be coming
    Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
Still no date on when and rumours are very mixed about what spec it will have (sounds at best like a Q2 but with clearer graphics)
  17. danielmackenzie's avatar
Great deal. I've got the 2 and 3. I play multi player with the kids and don't care which headset I use. The better pass through is nice but it's mostly a fun tech demo for games
  18. gt1915's avatar
    JL 2 warranty better?
  19. Redinho's avatar
Thinking I'll wait and get the meta 3 eventually. This seems like it's comparable to psvr1 but without the wires, which is cool but a big expense buying everything again
    andy_mathiesonWna's avatar
Not really , screen rez is higher , tracking is better and its a standalone system , it also works with PCVR , psvr1 was amazing when it was released but its fairly old tech now . I have Quest 2 For PCVR and Quest games but agree Quest 3 is worth paying the extra for
  20. p1ccolo's avatar

The point being is the £250 extra for quest 3, worth it?

Yes but wait till its cheaper

    Ughhh Fresnel lenses. No thanks.

Is it worth paying over double the price for the 3? Tempted to get a VR headset but know nothing about them.
    copperspock's avatar
For this price, I'd recommend trying the Q2 first.
The Q3 is an upgrade in pretty much every way, but the Q2 is still decent, and a bargain at this price.
  25. cicobuff's avatar
None of these android headsets are going to be obsolete other than through technological changes making them old hat. The Pico store for example isn't brilliant, neither is the future in hardware for the brand, yet even Beat Saber has been unofficially ported to it yesterday.

If anyone wants fun and is technically minded in APK side loading, consider this or spend that little more on the technological halfway house in the Pico 4 with pancake lenses.

The beauty of either the quest 2, quest 3 or Pico 4 is their ability to be used as standalone android units or tethered to PC's.

Meanwhile WMR headsets will be obsolete soon after Microsoft have both pulled the plug and will eventually roll out Windows updates that will remove support.
    archermav's avatar
    You using a Pico 4?
  26. Modric86's avatar
It is the motion sickness yeah, table tennis is so good though and walking golf. They don’t make me feel sick but the walking dead does. It’s enjoyable though! My post got removed sorry I wasn’t aware no longer able to post like that haha my bad
    Itsmenotthee's avatar
yeah walking dead did a bit of that. Most my motion sickness is from hangovers though haha
  27. Tadpole78's avatar
Very tempted...already decided to get the kids one for next Christmas, so wondering do I bite now or will it come down more (oh to have a crystal ball). My budget is £200, so Q3 isn't going to be an option.
    fishmaster's avatar
Q2 is all you need really. I made the mistake of selling my Q2 and getting a Q3 and I regret it due to the horrendous lens overlap effect.
  28. Shinkal's avatar
Good price but I will wait for the the Quest 3S specs to be officially revealed. Hopefully, there's decent improvements over the Quest 2.
    Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
Very mixed "leaked" info on the Quest Lite (new rumours are suggesting it might not even be called Quest 3 Lite), I have seen 3 different leaks of the headset this week alone and they all look different

Plus there is no reliable release date suggested yet, most Quest headsets are released in October, so could be then!?
  29. crack_shot's avatar
90-120 hz that close- motion sickness is a certainty for anyone who is suceptible
waiting for 360 hz ULMB2 enabled VR
    ChrisRX's avatar
It's really not. I've been playing VR for 7 years now and I'm super sensitive to motion sickness. Frame rate just isn't much of a contributing factor to motion sickness nowadays (as long as it's stable)
  30. MrGrump's avatar
A bargain at that price - get the correct USB cable and superb for PC VR gaming
  31. Richard_Mathews's avatar
can you do emulation in VR?
    Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
Yes, you need to sideload the apps, easy enough. You can play Switch and mobile games easily. Xbox has a cloud gaming app on the store anyway.

Easy to connect a bluetooth Xbox controller to the Quest too
  32. Dinje's avatar
Might be worth checking the other bundle options, seem a good some good deals with this, ie Bundle Price: Meta Quest 2 — 128 GB + Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case £218.99
  33. dwl99's avatar
Can you use these if you wear glasses or do you need another bit of kit?
    mm_hugh's avatar
yes. Mine came with a spacer for glasses, easy to clip on and you are good to go.
I'm also using the Kiwi design headset with built in battery to extend the gaming life.
Most used games so far are Beat saber, Death Unchained and Pistol whip. (edited)

Is there a way to cast to LG TVs? Struggled with LG but found it easy to cast to Sony. Unfortunately didn't know if the difficulty until after changing brand.
    Itsmenotthee's avatar
if you can cast your phone to your tv, you can cast this, its the same process now

Thank you Finally but at this price as our rift s was slowly dying!!
  37. bcfcant's avatar
Worth it at this price - you can get the majority of games free especially for single players if you look in the right places as a lot of games I find extortionate for the small amount of playtime.

Dose this run Roblox without a computer?
    blake4100's avatar
The Roblox app is available on Meta Quest, a virtual reality headset. Meta Quest headset owners can install the Roblox app and enjoy experiences together with Roblox users from Xbox, PlayStation, iOS, Android, and desktop devices. Note: Roblox supports Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3 devices.

Is this an upgrade on the original HTC Vive for steam games? Or will it cause more hassle for not much of an upgrade?
