Not heard great things about LG and Samsung home appliances. A common fault for LGs is their compressor/condenser motor. Also keep in mind, some removal companies won't move an American style fridge freezer if you're planning on moving in future

Smart looking fridge though, much better than mine which needs defrosting once a year.
    guitarguy656's avatar
yup, there is even a class action against LG over this in the USA currently. Personally I would avoid.

This deal needs editing. It is a very good price but some things in the narrative are wrong. 'This super-energy efficient,'
    • A+ Energy Rating: Reduced noise level and excellent energy efficiency plus power failure safe storage for up to 20 hours.'
It isn't super efficient A class efficiency but E ( as mentioned further down in the spec.). It also hasn't got a water/ice dispenser ,which the description says it has. Not having this does give it a larger capacity freezer though.
    • Slim SpacePlus®: This ice system dispenses cool purified water or crushed ice when you want it, ideal for long, cool and refreshing drinks on tap.
    • Have asked mods to correct this deal but they say it's ok , I think it's misleading. Update , they are going to have another look. Update still not done anything. If this was a commercial thing could report them for false advertising .

I've got a similar model. The Instaview / Knock Knock thing is completely pointless except for impressing visiting kids. However being able to open that part of the door by itself is really useful - as 90% of your fridge visits are to take the milk out (or beer or wine!), so you don't need to open the whole door, must help energy costs a fair bit especially in summer. That said, I'm not 100% sure whether this model has that feature, I think LG call it "Door in Door" which isn't listed in the specs above.

The other thing I'd say people should think about is this model (and mine) having the salad/veg boxes right at the bottom near the floor is a bit of a pain given that you regularly want to go into them; meanwhile you have easy access to the freezer at arm height; this is the "American" design. With hindsight I would suggest people consider the "French" design (LG do them too) where you have double door fridge across the top and full width freezer drawers across the bottom, I think this would work better for day to day usage. Lastly the freezer cubby holes are a bit annoying - ok for neatly stacking pizzas but you soon end up with piles of random-shaped items that don't stack well. Apparently you can buy 3rd party trays to go into them which would be a bit more efficient, this is on my list of low priority jobs to investigate!
    andy_spoo's avatar
Agreed. The design of this model has an indent in the middle of the doors to make it look like yours, but from the photos above you can see they are full size doors. I think that is pretty cheeky of LG and looks designed to decisive.

We have a different model, with the non plumbed ice maker and although freezer space is small we were just really lucky all the white versions during lockdown were sold out so when our cheap beko one broke down the insurers matched to the nearest possible one in currys and we were issued a voucher for 1.5k to go and purchase a replacement. Not bad when the original was about £600.

It's all good aside from one thing. It might be common to the type of fridge freezer we have, but the wall between the fridge and freezer can get super hot. Like, worryingly hot. I'm told it's not an issue but I do worry about it. It would have been nice to have the option to change it to being plumbed at a later date but we can't do that. I did keep the freezer baskets from our old one and they fit in the new one so we mostly have pull out drawers in ours which is nice. Though the front dings quite easily thanks to my being a wheelchair user it's got a few minor dents.... but it's otherwise done really well.

Even have an lg washing machine and like that too. Though I don't rate the dryer cycle I'm fortunate to not have to rely on it for everything.

For this price it's a real bargain. If you wanted to save even more they do come up on some of the outlet stores(ebay) from time to time. I tend to save the ones I like, wait for extra savings events and get double reductions on appliances (edited)

Personally, given the number of issues I've seen amongst friends that own them and experienced myself with a Samsung...I wouldn't be so comfortable with a short 2 year warranty on everything other than the compressor. My Samsung has a 5 year warranty and multiple things have been replaced after 2 years which would otherwise have been very costly. (edited)

This is what i was just thinking is 2 yr warranty enough?

Be cautious , the company charges a restocking fee if you try and return the item within 14 days
    rik111's avatar
And so they should. Why on earth would you order this then demand to return and expect them to pick up the bill for you being a total ######. If you dont want it, dont order it, easy....

This is one of the models with the notorious failing compressor and the very dubious warranty dodge. Buy a smeg instead, maybe?

They currently have this model online at John Lewis for £1399, ;2 year warranty) if anyone needs to double check its specification.

I was after a non plumbed American fridge freezer and ended getting this GSLV91MBAC from John Lewis different non plumbef C rated model without the knock on screen/door in doir!

What doesn’t make sense is how my model GSLV91MBAC being delivered soon is a better C rating with only 2 doors (and non plumbed ice/water dispenser) vs LG GSXV91BSAE (1 year newer equivalent) but with the knock/quarter door with E energy rating, (similar to Ops post)

I found a very helpful John Lewis technical support member who had access to detailed LG. Models data and looked into it. They agree with me it didn’t make any sense. My model was released 2022 the other a few months later in 2023.

In the end I decided to stick to my C rating one, and felt the other model (which incidentally price dropped today by another £100) was a bit gimmicky since it was not as economical.

LG customer services and contact support were useless didn’t have an answer when I contacted them. (edited)
    mug's avatar
I would imagine the glass in the GSXV91BSAE instaview model to be the cause of inefficiency. A solid door with insulation will be better for energy efficiency than a glass door filled with air.
  12. ciaravella's avatar
I would steer clear of LG unless they have changed in the Lat few years. Had one just out of warranty by weeks packed in and LG no interested also the plastic inside walls was cracking. We also had LG TV and washer dryer all experienced issues just out of warranty so no longer go LG will only ever look at Samsung as generally their service is better and so far items seem to be reliable.
Also LG offer 2 year warranty and Samsung 5 years. I know which one I would trust. If items are produced to last they won’t offer a longer warranty so get a 3rd party 5 year one (edited)

My LG G2 is amazing and has been fault free in the nearly 2 years I’ve owned it.

Not saying you’ve not had a bad experience or two but generally people shout about a bad experience, and rarely about a good one.

Trip advisor is a great example of this. (edited)

I have a different model to this with an ice maker (not plumbed) and it’s been great. Waaay better quality than their high end washers/dishwashers etc which are flimsy plastic (sent those back). It is metal all over (other than the glass window) you would think moving it would be a nightmare and ofcourse it’s heavy but once in the room, I could push it easily with one finger and then once in position put the feet down ( I was very surprised by this.)

I don’t really use the instaview feature much other than to show people the fridge but it is very cool, however the glass window is a game changer for just grabbing milk, can of drink, ketchup etc. It’s light and easy to open without needing to open the whole door. Convenient and saves energy.

I would recommend it but I could not recommend their other appliances which is worrisome to a degree. We wanted one brand to match and ended up with a mix. I wouldn't want to have a problem with LG as they have been less than helpful with even the simplest of enquiries when we were looking to buy using a discount code that they couldn’t/wouldn’t apply and purchased elsewhere in the end
    because it’s what we wanted.

Be careful as there is a big issue with LG fridges in the states. Not sure if this is one of the fridges affected. They are refusing to repair or refund and are blaming the cardboard box for the issues nbcbayarea.com/inv…p=1 (edited)

You are so right! As a delivery driver for AO these things drive me mad. We have to remove doors from the machines and sometimes doors in peoples houses just to get them in. Our houses aren’t designed for these big machines. Clues in the name-American!

I'm not sure if my old LG fridge is anything to go by. It's coming on 25 years old. Moved house with me 6 times in that time. The damn thing is built like a tank. I've wanted to change it to these for yonks but the wife said if it ain't broke, why change it?!??!
    yorkie12's avatar
We've got an 18 year old LG American Fridge Freezer . Still going strong but since we've moved house it's now located in the kitchen , used to live in garage, looking a bit tired so sadly we are going to replace.

Thanks OP, but for me the whole point of an American style Frig/freezer is it must have a water/drinks snd ice dispenser.

Do they normally take the doors off?

Yes. And then we very nearly had another issue where we almost couldn't stand it up in the kitchen - having brought it in on its side, as we righted it, there was about 2mm clearance from the kitchen ceiling as it tipped up... not looking forward to moving it if and when we move house!
  36. andy_spoo's avatar
America style fridge freezers like this (also known as a side-by-side) really do not have that much freezer capacity, because modern versions have so much insulation in them it leaves little room for contents.
Usually the only reason to get one is for the ice maker/crusher and this does not have one.

Instaview is nothing more than a gimmick. You can still see the contents with the screen switched off when you look up close. It also means the fridge has less insulation than a standard version, which cannot be a good thing. Glass will expels both hot and cold, which makes the front less efficient.
