After an age of the cruellest tyranny, the demon God, Adyr, was finally defeated. But Gods… do not fall forever. Now, aeons later, Adyr’s resurrection draws nigh. Humanity’s only hope lies with the Church of Orian Radiance - the last warriors of light, in a world that grows ever darker. This divine order has unearthed a device of unholy power - a lantern that grants the ability to cross between the realm of the living and the dead. Contrary to their faith, the Church bestows this black art upon only their most ferocious and loyal champions - The Dark Crusaders.
To defy the Gods and restore the light, one must embrace the darkness.
FEATURES:
Explore Two Vast, Parallel Worlds
Journey across two parallel worlds in your epic quest to overthrow Adyr. While the living realm presents its own brutal challenges, untold horrors lurk in the nightmarish realm of the dead.
Wield a Device of Ungodly Power
Your lantern possesses the ungodly power to cross between worlds. Use this dark art to reach forgotten places, unearth fabled treasures, and manipulate the very soul of your foe.
Rise from Death
Fall in the world of the living, and rise again… in the world of the dead. You now have one final chance to return to your living state, as all manner of hellish creatures descend upon you.
Unite or Fight in Online Multiplayer
Brave your entire quest side-by-side in uninterrupted, online co-op, with fitting rewards for completing community events. But be warned - heroes from other realms can, and will invade.
Master Fast, Fluid Tactical Combat
Only those that master the deep, tactical combat can hope to survive. Choose from 100s of uniquely brutal weapons, or forgo metal for magic with devastating attacks of the arcane.

Fully Customise and Develop Your Own Character
Fully customise your character’s appearance, before selecting one of nine character classes. Whichever starting path you take, develop your character to your own playstyle by upgrading stats, weapons, armour and spells.

It's got its good points and is innovative in some ways.

But its technical performance is (STILL) absolutely shocking. Some areas of the game are as good as unplayable (Bramis Castle), and there are serious problems with AMD GPUs and game breaking crashes.

The game gets patched almost weekly, it seems, and they appear to fix one problem while creating two more every time. Recently, to address the performance issues (eventually), they simply cut down the textures to the point where the atmosphere (which was the main strength of the game) has all but evaporated.

It has replayability potential (due to NPC sidequests and different paths you can choose). Unfortunately, it's such a loooooonnnggg game, I think you'd have to LOVE it to go through another run.

Finally, the lock on is very, very poorly implemented and the devs CLEARLY have no clue how to fix it. The lock on doesn't differentiate by depth/distance only by how close the target is to the crosshair. So it ends up locking onto totally irrelevant targets, including environmental targets and not just enemies. It's really bad.

All in all, it's a 5/10 for me. If it were on Plus I'd be happy if hadn't played it already. I wouldn't pay more than say a tenner though

Yea we once they sold the business to someone else, went dark for 4 months and moved warehouses, it’s never been the same. Shame as they were reliable and competitive with other retailers.

Actually think it was a good game, lots of value and lots of different playstyles/builds to go for with different endings plus the umbral stuff is decent

I really enjoyed it and didn’t experience any performance issues on PS5 while playing in January though I get the criticism about the lock on issue as that got me killed a few times. There are now different lock on options but I still didn’t find one which worked for me 100% of the time.

Took a while to get used to the umbra swapping to find where to go and still got lost now and again.

I ended up doing multiple runs as you get the option of NG+0. Keep everything non story related start again but enemies don’t get harder. Felt like a reward for completing the game trying out new builds and steam rolling the first 2/3 of the game. I got all trophies apart from collect all armor/weapons as it involved grinding enemies for low drop rate items which just wasn’t fun.

Would go back again if they release dlc. Definitely one of the better souls likes out there.
