Ordered for 11.98 in December. Great bit of kit if can't stretch for a posh wireless one or not sure how much will use.

I have a posh wireless one (Meater+). Short distance, doesn't like walls, doesn't like wifi, constantly disconnects. Have just bought this one!

Would this work to measure/check the temperature of the oven itself (ie not the food) as a cross check against the set temp? I sssume the lead is heatproof and can come through the oven door. (edited)

I have one of these and it's great but the lcd has deteriorated pretty quickly. My oven is probably about 20 years old and the last 7 on the clock looks like a 1. So, I never know whether it's 11:11 or 11:17 without checking elsewhere. Fair enough. It happens to all LCDs eventually, I guess. But within a couple of years of owning this, half of the LCD had faded to the point where it's impossible to know what it says. It's set to 100 degrees when you turn it on, so I just have to count backwards to the temp i want. Most of the numbers from 80-99 look the same. The alarm recently became temperamental (intermittently silent). So, sometimes I walk past and see the LCD is flashing, and the food's presumably been at temp for some time but the alarm hasn't made any noise.

Needless to say, I'm buying the same one again off the back of this deal. But I thought people might want to know.

the preset temps for this are way off medium rare beef is set to 63 celsius - should be 57. well done is set to 77 should be 69. Beef raises in temp as it rests initially - that well done beef will be burnt to a cinder

I wouldn't use the presets exactly for this reason.

Also please don't cook beef to well done

Had this for years and use it weekly. Hasn't skipped a beat, using in the oven or outside on the BBQ.
