Buying mechanical drives from Amazon... Always feel like they will be thrown and dropped dozen of times before reaching my door.

I remember ordering 6x 2TB drives from Amazon about 7 years ago, all 6 delivered in the same thin cardboard packaging you’d expect to see a dvd or bluray in. No padding what so ever, all 6 were shoved through the letter box one by one. Didn’t manage to get to the door until the final one hit the ground!

2x out of the 6 were DOA as a result, sent all 6 back and complained at how ridiculously poor they’d packaged them.

I’ve ordered a couple more recently in the last few years and they are packed much more reasonably thankfully!

I have 6 of these in my NAS, they have been flawless for years. Half tempted to buy one now in case I lose a drive and need to rebuild one of my arrays

Nice! What enclosure are you using for your NAS? Could you recommend one for a newbie?

5400RPM not ideal for a working drive and avoid getting hard drives from amazon unless you want a degraded drive within a couple years

They are NAS/red drives so 5400RPM is just fine. For 24/7 operation one wants as little noise/heat/vibration etc as possible and a lower speed usually helps with this.

Cant really go wrong with Ironwolves!

When did drives get so expensive? I got 6tb for £100 a year or so ago

I agree honestly at this sort of price it should really be a Toshiba drive to be considered a deal (edited)

If your worried could always go for 5y extended warranty. Mine came in multilayered HDD packaging. No foam but shock absorbing
