sorted byAlso Ouigo is a budget operator - watch out that you are charged for luggage above a cabin sized suitcase, and for extras like choosing your own seat (there are some dreaded "middle seats in a 3" on these trains), which don't have armrests either).
Still some great deals in Spain... Thanks to competition I add too. (edited)
You don't need to arrive 30 mins before though - 10 mins is enough. The security check is nothing like the one for the plane. You just put your bag through a large x-ray machine and as a result the queue is usually small and fast moving.
MAD-VAL 360km takes 126 / 114 / 114 minutes e77 Single
LON-YORK 314km takes 110 / 114 / 109 minutes £123 to £128 Return
Their high speed service is in practice slower than ours given their mandatory airport-style check-in Edit: it seems you can risk rocking up to the security check just 5-10 minutes before departure, meaning average speeds are about the same. (edited)
How about MAD-BCN 627km (double distance LON-YORK) in 150 minutes and I've regularly paid £8.
And the suggestion of airport style check in times is a joke. I've regularly turned up at the station 5-10 mins before, whisked my bag through a massive x-ray, and still always caught the train. Good luck doing that at the airport...
Seville is a very nice city to visit too.
