If you wish you could be more like Planes, Trains, Everything but don't have the budget now is your time to take up coach travel on the cheap as FlixBus are celebrating their third anniversary in the UK with discounted tickets of £2 plus service fee (typically £1) on journeys within the UK.

They ran a similar deal last year and listed all the routes, unfortunately I couldn't find any such list for this year.

However, news articles (1) (2) on this mention it is valid on all routes within Scotland, and when I looked at some of the routes mentioned in last year's press release there were plenty of £2 tickets available.

  • £2 pricing expires 21st April.
  • Applies to journeys until 12th May.

Any way to avoid the service fee?

Switch to the Canadian site and book through there (paying in CAD). Some other languages/currencies also charge no booking fee e.g. Ukraine but going through Canada keeps the booking in English.

Avoid these jokers, they canceled my bus and didn't even bother notifying me, worst still they were actually still selling tickets an hour before bus was due to arrive at the station (but bus itself was supposed to have already been on route hours earlier), in the end i was left stranded at 03.00 am on a cold night, never again. Yeah, this company is fine if you accept taking the risk of the 1% chance of having a terrible experience.

Last time I got a flixbus, from London to Paris CDG, we were left stranded in the port of Dover for 8 hours (the bus was 2 hours late and we missed the last ferry). This caused me to miss the connection with their own bus in Lille, my flight, and my hotel room in the airport. All in all a 12 hour delay. All we got was £10 for food and drinks in Dover.
Had to fight tooth and nails to get part of my booking refunded. The customer service was taking 3 weeks to reply to each of my emails, and every time I got an answer, it was a new agent, starting the conversation over. Nightmare.

Used this company in the past, and obviously when everything goes smoothly is brilliant.

I now try to avoid them, However tempting their pricing might be.

If you sign up as a new customer you get 20% off fares - they send you a unique code via SMS text message so 20% off £4 (£2 x 2 fares) is 80 pence reduction 😚 every little helps

Probably trying to get business back after their driver appears to have fallen asleep in that big accident a week or so ago

    Yea it's all over the German media! Apparently the drivers are over worked!;

What are these buses actually like? I haven’t done long-distance coaches since a Glasgow>London overnight trip which wasn’t great fun - crying babies and the police coming on at a service station to arrest someone - but maybe they’re better now. Or at least more comfortable?

The police thing is so accurate hahaha, I was travelling Brussels to Milan and some European police came up on the bus to arrest some illegal migrants apparently

Went from Amsterdam to Brussels….done it’s job at a cheap price to be honest….it was the train back to Amsterdam that was cancelled three times that was the issue and wished I had got the last flexi bus back.

Don't do it have consistently been overtaken by these buses while travelling at 70 there drivers will put you and other road users at risk. When reporting to the company they just dismiss it and ignore SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS

    £2 fares gone?

I have to travel thrice a week to London from Brum and was just about to book the £2 fares... it's not there anymore

There's a few from Nottingham to London late on Saturday, but if you want the £2 fare (£3 actually as £1 booking fee added) then you'll need to pick unpopular times.

£6.99 + booking fee for me - Edinburgh to Aberdeen (edited)

Newcastle to Edinburgh £6.99 cheapest each way, suppose it’s cheaper than taking the car (edited)

It’s a shame there’s no £2 tickets for anywhere in or out of Wales Not sure why they skipped the offer in Wales as they run routes there.

Although the bad press and bad people’s experiences puts me off anyway :/

Are there any other inexpensive ways of 'touring' the M4? I had always thought it would be an easy and decent route for an operator to deliver on, say, Swansea to London and between...

Is there a way to cover multiple cities on this or other bus service for leisure on a budget? Generally the regular intercity bus fares are fairly close to flight cost - I remember FlixBus pass used to be a thing that allowed travelling multiple cities in EU for a fixed pass like £100 but it’s gone after covid. wouldn't take a chance going to an airport with these crooks, if you do at least have another option ready
