sorted byThey have an old Yamaha FS-340 at the music club I go to and it’s really nice to play and has very good build and finish to. No idea how the new range of FS guitars compare but this Fender seems very similar for a far bit less.
It's hard to compare apples to apples across the ranges as they tend to offer lots of models at various price points. Yahama for example have 'FS' series from £300 to £800 depending on features, spec, materials, etc.
The bigger thing here to consider is it's size - This would be a bit larger on the body than the FS and sound a little bassier and more pronounced for the same reason. Yamaha FS models like what you previously mentioned playing are 'concert' sized (or sometimes called 'folk') bodies, whereas this Fender is a 'dreadnought' (sometimes called 'western') which equates to Yamaha FG series. The size difference is particularly in the lower part of the body so can change how comfortable it is to hold/strum, but is very personal preference. I'd generally recommend trying one in person to see how different the size/shape is to you, but it is Amazon so you can return things readily enough if it doesn't suit you.
...only had a quick strum or 2..and someone was flaffing around with a bass in the shop but from what I could tell it sounded fine ..felt comfortable in the hands etc ..and it was in tune when I picked it up....did surprise me how light is was compared to my Yamaha L6 though...can't say it sounded better or worse than my yammmy...just a bit of a different sound .....that's why we buy more than one guitar ..was expecting a little bit more weight to it but as long as there's no issues which some have reported ..poorly set up..frets etc ..it should be ok....but no excuses for shipping out a £600 guitar with any issues at all if you ask me
The only thing stopping me from taking a punt on this is that later that day I had a go on a sigma (also all wood ) which I really liked ... currently 30 quid more than this one ..on paper the fender should beat it and has a case ..vintage tuners etc ...but that sigma was noice (edited)
Made me think about upping the budget a bit to the models above ...think the DM 18 ...meant to be very close to the Martin equivalent....think it's about 600 quid
Still tempted to try this fender though (edited)
