EDIT: Price drop to £187.

Managed to get this for £179 a few weeks ago, price now increased to £187, but still a good discount on RRP.

I added an Integral 256gb NVME drive and 2x8gb DDR4 3200 SODIMM memory and had a complete system for c£235, which compares well with your average 'Beelink' or similar mini PCs. I transferred a Windows licence from the old system this has replaced, so now running Windows 11 just fine.

For the money you're getting:
- A desktop Intel i3-12100 CPU with integrated graphics (£100 on its own new) - much more powerful than the intel N100 in a lot of mini PCs
- ITX-format H610 motherboard with built in PSU
- A good quality 120W power adapter
- Aluminium (I think) case with VESA mounting bracket and desk stand. In addition to one M.2 NVME drive this has space for two 2.5inch SATA drives and includes all the cables for this
- Intel Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2

I had been contemplating building a similar system - either Intel or Ryzen 4600g, but couldn't get close to this price for the components.

Clearly this isn't a gaming machine, which wasn't the intended purpose. For me it was a good deal compared to something like a refurbished Lenovo Thinkcentre.

Also available from Misco at £177.59 plus postage, but Trustpilot reviews for Misco didn't look great: misco.co.uk/pro…BwE

What is the hourly power consumption on this for always on.

msi lists it with a 120W power adapter, intel lists the processor base power at 60w.

id guess it idles at around 30w, not including any peripherals or hard drives connected to it

Wonder if you can remove and replace the CPU in this? Or soldered in or something?

Pretty sure it’s just a standard socketed desktop chip, they do variants with i5 12400 and i7 12700. Would need to be a c65W chip and no room for a GPU, so no F or KF variants.

Does anyone have suggestions for RAM and SSD? Preferably a deal

    Refurb is cool too (edited)

I’m using standard Crucial 3200 RAM in mine, though price has gone up about £6 since then. There are no RAM settings in the BIOS so you need to make sure that RAM has JEDEC rating for speed you want to run it at. Anything rated above 3200 is a waste of money as a result. There’s a good thread on here for current SSD deals. I picked up a 1TB WD SN580 for £64.99 direct from WD and got just over £5 cashback, so £60 net. Price has now gone back up. There are probably better deals. SN770 1TB for £69.99 on ebuyer looks OK given ssd pricing has jumped a lot since this time last year.

I was looking at maybe getting an MSI mini pc, but at £650 I wasn't sure if one is a good buy & secondly if there were other alternatives

    What I'm looking at;

That's a much smaller mini PC based off a laptop CPU. According to benchmarks it will be slower, but is smaller and will use less power: cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…197

I don't know how the GPU compares - it's probably better in the i7-1255U that you linked as it's Iris Xe, so depends how much that matters to you.

You should be able to add 16gb RAM and a 1TB SSD from decent brands to the PC in this thread for c£110, so comparable system prices are £300 vs £650. I don't think the mini PC at £650 is a great deal, but isn't directly comparable due to being much smaller.

This is a stonking price. The i3-12100 has a ton of power for its price, despite the "i3" branding. It was actually a very popular budget gaming chip on release (I know this isn't a gaming system).
    Great find. (edited)

Exactly. I've actually bought 2 of these since the price dropped, replacing 3rd and 4th gen dual core i3's that will lose Windows 10 support next year and were starting to show their age. Both had given 10yrs service as productivity computers. With 16gb RAM and a cheap(ish) TLC NVME drive they'll be much snappier for their users who have no interest in gaming, but might make use of the Quicksync video encoding from time to time. Performance for those kind of tasks won't be far off the i5-12500 I have in my own desktop.

Shame it doesn't seem to have room for a dedicated graphics card for gaming, otheerwise I would be quite tempted as a second gaming pc. (edited)

Looks decent enough, those cheapo Beelinks and all the clones seem to use the N100 which is ok for certain tasks but I'd prefer this i3 I think.

Cheepo Beelinks? Mine runs fine with a Ryzen 5800H.

I wish it had 2 or even 4 ethernet ports

2 is pretty uncommon and I've never even heard of a pc with four ethernet ports. What are you looking to do?

This looks to be a nice little machine. I’d consider this but I’ve got a similar and smaller Acer which does the trick.

Benchmarks - 12100 is a lot faster than an N100 so depends what you need it for (edited)

Would this be a good computer to rip DVDs/Blu Rays? I see that it has on-board graphics, would this slow down ripping the discs?
    stec77's avatar
I don’t think this comes with any optical drive let alone a Blu Ray drive, nor does it seam to have space for an internal drive so you would have to use a USB external Blu Ray drive.

Not bad for what it is. I'd grab this if I didn't already have a 5600H mini PC.

Says that in the post at the top. Trustpilot reviews were bad and postage isn't free, but still a few quid cheaper.

No. Just M.2 slots for Wi-Fi and NVME. Nowhere to fit a full size expansion card inside the case.
