Friend runs this drive with no issues I did re-install the os to make sure and was scanned on my pc before install
  2. acelove's avatar
Yeah I would not trust that NVMe with a preinstalled OS.

If something is too good to be true, usually is.
    JetSetWilliesDeals's avatar
Absolutely. I'd never in a million years trust my Steam account to this.

Weird, it said £50.53 at checkout when I tested it. I've updated the thread anyway.

Having (quite literally) been burned by fake MicroSD cards (NOT from AliExpress I will add), I would be very wary about buying storage devices from these type of marketplaces. Awesome deal if you want to take the gamble and it pays off

Does anyone know how good the quality of the screwdriver is because that's all I really need
    Sleepy1968's avatar
I believe it has a higher formatted capacity and faster read/write speeds than the drive.

I wonder what has been installed in the back door?!
    Joshimitsu91's avatar
Just wipe it and install fresh. I'd be more worried that the firmware is reporting 1TB but the actual capacity is lower.

Mine's arrived and installed and working fine. Haven't seen any problems so far.

Mine arrived today too actually but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

There is absolutely 0.00000001% chance that that drive is legit.

Seems to lead to an old macbook pro SSD based on the model number.

With brand new spanking Chinese software baking in for good measure.

Got a 400gb MicroSD card in my 512gb model… and all I play is Vampire Survivors…

If ppl are going for one then I suggest you use a pc software to scan it to validate it and to scan for any problems before you replace it on your steam deck. Software should tell you the manufacturer /model/capacity and scan for any potential defects /errors. Should get into habit for any media to be fair including microsd cards

If this is not a rebadged, then I probably won't trust a non branded card. Rather pay for a reliable reviewed card (edited)
  14. untakenname's avatar
Read speed isn't great on these cards, would pay the tenner extra to get the 1TB WD SN740.
    Zek's avatar
About the same with low throttling though, depends how hot the WD gets. Also £83.20 with tax but still a good price. (edited)

honestly seems too good to be true. i'd be worried about getting a smaller drive with a flashed chip so it looks like it has a higher capacity than reality like some of those 2tb usbs or dodgy micro sd cards. Definitely order with a credit card if possible. The reviews look good but I've seen obvious fake drives get good reviews before so you can never be too safe. I paid £75ish for my 1tb drive for mine49811624-Bxlgd.jpg (edited)

Reminds me of a friend of a friend who was really proud of his recent wish order of a 10TB USB stick which worked really well.

He looked a bit worried when I asked if he'd actually filled it up and then tried opening one of the first files he'd put on it.
  16. Utakos's avatar
Not sure that I would bother, been looking at the WD740 on ali but again not sure that I would trust the spec to be correct
  17. kos1c's avatar
That's a great price. But for me I have a 256gb internal and 1tb SD , which for now does well as I usually play one game at a time. But would jump on this if I needed.
    TeamMCS's avatar
I put a 256gig SDHC card in my 512gb. Haven't actually tried it yet? What kind of throughput are you seeing? I SDHC card should in theory be a LOT slower than an NVME drive
  18. xxxman123's avatar
The OS comes pre-installed on the included memory stick and not on the actual SSD itself.

Reading the reviews people have said the included memory stick is Micro-USB and not USB-C, so you won't be able use it to flash the drive as the DS only has USB-C ports unless you have an adapter.

Oh and someone who used the included screw driver claim its too small causing the screw heads to get shredded.

It will be a cheap OEM drive but should do the job.

Makes you wonder what the point is in them including it then really.
  19. imdurc's avatar
That is damned cheap. Is this a legit good product or not?
    Spark's avatar

According to the reviews it is. This price is with quite a few stacked coupons though. Normally it costs 68 quid.
  20. sm9690's avatar
    Won't this void the warranty?

    No.

£60.64 with taxes, not a valid deal.
  22. WiteWulf's avatar
Great deal if legit, but it’s a proper gamble…
    dirtyfrog's avatar
Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. I got the Sabrent 1tb on December and the os install is stupidly simple, so absolutely no need for it to be preinstalled. Can't see this being a legit drive myself.

Didn't know you had a SD chief, how you getting on with it? Can imagine you're 99% emulation on it!
  23. acelove's avatar
There's a 512mb Sabrant on Amazon for 62 quid. I think I might just get the half TB and be happy haha

Update. It's no use now(I think there's a minimum 100 spend, so I added a steam deck dock
a.aliexpress.com/_mK…qg2 ). But got a steam deck dock and SSD for 75 (edited)
  25. Zek's avatar
Did you buy one Spark? I might risk it, though my Steam deck has been RMA'ed and haven't heard anything from them yet, hopefully I will get a new one!

I did yeah. I've now ordered 2 SSD's for a Steam Deck that hasn't even been delivered to me yet.
  26. Zek's avatar
£60.64 now, that's what I paid at least
  27. Bruno_Antoniazzi's avatar
Would it work on the 64Gb version?
    A57ton's avatar
    Yes
  28. txw311um's avatar
I guess even if I buy one, I will thoroughly wipe it out several times before taking it into my steam deck...

    £6 more for samsung aliexpress.com/ite…tml
I know nothing about whether its genuine but I have used aliexpress serval times. The shipping can take forever but I usually dont get charged import tax on orders less than £100.
    Zek's avatar
+ £13.23 tax so £79.40 unfortunately. You won't get charged any more import tax on orders under £135 as you have to pay it at point of sale (on aliexpress, ebay etc) now.

Anyone received this one, can test the speed?
I received mine and tested only 16MB file as the windows partitions are too small.
I ordered 1TB and seems like the size is ok according to Windows partition software but the speed is slower than a memory card.

    49879094-ngLVj.jpg
    blake4100's avatar
there is a program in Steam Deck Discovery apps - KDiskMark to test the speed
I tested my original 64GB eMMC and Samsung Evo sd and memory card has faster read

I'll try installing mine later today too and report back. I was going to try migrating data from the current one but it might not be worth the hassle really.

Did anyone use that USB stick that came with it btw? (edited)
    petermartin99's avatar
I didn't use the USB as it looks a bit rubbish. I just used my own sandisk.

My 1TB drive actually came with Steam OS already installed, but I did a full recovery from USB to wipe it clean.

I also didn't use the screwdriver as it didn't look good quality. (edited)

This has gone up by £10 but now there's no voucher code you'll get half of the difference back via 4% TopCashback, making it around £73.

500 reviews in and they appear to be genuine. I really don't want to go this route but supply is so short, at the moment anyway, and prices so high that I could buy another if it stops working and still come out even.
  33. Zek's avatar
Received mine, it only had about 12GB writes (from the Steam OS (or something?) that was on there), 0 hours power on time, so brand new really. Wiped it now though, temperature went up to 54c quickly but no higher, perhaps it was throttling. It said it was going to take about 45mins to wipe but took 2 hours, dram exhausted or throttling maybe. Will do more tests tomorrow! (edited)
    petermartin99's avatar
Why did it take 45 mins to wipe? Just install Steam OS on top of it in about 3 minutes.

I can understand if the drive had confidential data on it and you were selling it yourself but I don't see the point in a low level format on a new drive.
  34. Tomaquet's avatar
This deal is active again. I paid just under £60 (including taxes and delivery) for it. Might not be the fastest drive but more than good enough for the steam deck.
    blake4100's avatar

Can anyone help please ? I ordered this SSD and it arrived today. I have an m.2 enclosure already but my pc won't let me access the SSD to check or wipe it (it recognises the enclosure but I get the message it's not accessible)
I first thought that this was due to the drive being pre-formatted for the steam deck but I've tried a few different ways to access it now and each has failed. Is it just a dud drive or should I try anything else first ? Cheers (edited)
    blake4100's avatar
if you have a laptop or pc with nvme slot, then install it and boot windows installer from usb, see if the drive can bee seen, if it is then delete all partitions and make new ones and format it, then cancel installation
