Amazon have started restricting apps and updates keep resetting personalised settings, I currently have 4 different types of firesticks. Also amazon will be replacing The current Android based OS for their own custom version soon.

The alternative is to buy other stick ( eg xiaomi 4k stick etc or onn box) that have google or android tv os their is a load of info on youtube, just thought I would let people know of the current changes with amazon. (edited)

The change from Android OS won’t affect any current product.
It will role out to new products, yet to be produced or manufactured, and can’t be retro replaced (so no fear of your current device switching from Android).
The comments made about Amazon nuking your ability to install your own apps (side load) or run things via ADB are totally accurate. Unless you got in early and disabled it all, sadly you’re now at the mercy of what Amazon decide you can/can’t install

They have been running that for months, maybe even years. They are just advertising it differently now

I've a Nvidia Shield and a Formuler Z11 Pro Max, both fantastic and with the playstore. They are expensive mind, but, buffer free, rapid, tanks, both.

I also got an Onn box for my mother. Fab again with the playstore.

Having said all that, just get the 4K Chromecast with Google TV. It's a far superior device imo to firesticks and without wishing to labour the point, it has the google playstore which means automatic updates to apps.

You rarely if ever will need to sideload. Tivimate for example is in the playstore.. (edited)

I have the KINHANK G1 it is around £80 give and take exchange rates, it is googletv certified but it is missing iplayer and 4od which is no biggie really, it is a solid box 32gb storage 4gb ram so plenty of bang for your money, not on level as the shield ofcourse but certainly a great box for those who don't want to shell out £180.
KINHANK G1 is a real 4K streaming set-top box powered by Amlogic S905X4-J ARM Quad 64-bit Cortex-A55 with AV1 HDR, running on the Android 11.0 ATV system. Built-in lots of content and entertainment, including 4K Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney Plus, etc, stream what you love!

Official Netflix and Google Android TV 11 certifications

The official Netflix, Google, and other certifications ensure excellent support for Netflix and other streaming services (such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max and many others) with the best possible audio and video quality (up to 4K Dolby Vision and DD+). The modern Android TV 11 OS version with the official Google Android TV certification ensures excellent compatibility with all Android TV applications and features and also gives a very powerful "Chromecast built-in" technology.

Is it worth paying the extra £10 for the 4K max? Thanks in advance
    Legendkiller2k's avatar
Yes more storage, better processor, wifi 6e instead of 6.

Is there a rumour that the Firesticks will be replaced with a new OS in the near future which will mean no more sideloading?
(Sorry asked this question on another Firestick thread which has now been deleted so unable to see the comments that people left before thread was removed, sorry and thanks for your responses)
    Pixl8's avatar
AFAIK yes and it's not a rumour but any change will not affect your existing sticks etc ? Read above hotukdeals.com/com…147 (edited)

Woooo! Cheers OP been waiting for this! To get the 20%, go through with the trade in, you get an email with the £3 voucher. The twenty percent is applied when you checkout, not in the basket, on the fire TV devices. Nice

Apart from IPTV, any other reason why anyone would use these if you already have a smart TV?

It’s handy and portable specially when travelling.

Trade-in only seems to accept Amazon Fire TV devices. Last November I was able to trade in a NOW TV box. Now if you type "NOW" or "ROKU" into the field it only returns Amazon Fire TV devices to select. (edited)
    Pixl8's avatar
Yeah same here and omly £3 regardless of which firestick you trade in ...not likley
  11. GuerraTron's avatar
trade in is only £3. Not sure where that 20% comes from.
I got 6 firesticks, and 2 4k max already, and they are also only 3 quid trade in.
    TeddyLegs's avatar
Is the max worth the upgrade? Over the normal 4k?
  12. rodman's avatar
Can you trade-in Roku stick to NOWTV box??? Can not find it, they removed it???
  13. deltadaz's avatar
Wouldn't you know It. Electric cuts out, my Firestick 4k goes poop.
And then a deal pops up on here! Amazing 4kmax brought thanks.
Mine was starting to get slow anyways

Anyone know how long the offer lasts? I just sent my old stick for trade in today and wonder if I have enough time to wait to receive the 20% discount before they put the price back up.
    kris_76's avatar
I got my trade in via email basically straight away. Just have to send the old one before 3rd of May.

    Good price 🔥 added..

A wee bit skeptical now that Amazon have decided to go Linux..
    reubenno's avatar
What do you mean by go Linux? FireOS is a fork of Android, which is built on Linux...

    score01's avatar

  18. d_q's avatar
