Amazon have started restricting apps and updates keep resetting personalised settings, I currently have 4 different types of firesticks. Also amazon will be replacing The current Android based OS for their own custom version soon.

The alternative is to buy other stick ( eg xiaomi 4k stick etc or onn box) that have google or android tv os their is a load of info on youtube, just thought I would let people know of the current changes with amazon.

Whilst Amazon will be moving to a new OS this will not affect existing devices, the new OS will be on upcoming Amazon devices.

What is the differences between 2nd gen and 3rd?

This can mean only one thing!

Amazon are having a sale on their devices that starts tomorrow on Amazon & everywhere else!

If it's the same price, I'm happy to support Argos over Amazon

Are these still able to be powered from tv usb? Only as I recently got the chromecast and was annoyed that it needed mains power to function.
    Danny_54321's avatar
My firestick says it needs mains power but I use the tv USB to power it and apart from the odd (very rare) warning it seems to work as normal (edited)

Now also on sale at John Lewis (with 2 year guarantee)

Is the 4K max worth the extra £10? Not seeing much difference between the two tbh
    jedisteel's avatar
The 4K Max is 16gb of storage the other Firesticks are 8gb with 8gb and Amazon updates and a couple apps your not left with much storage space!!! (edited)

Just ordered with JL I had a 5% off code with JL rewards too, so cost £33.24 used PayPal credit to pay & got a £20 off next purchase using PayPal. Quidco too (edited)

If you're into rooting, sideloading, etc. then probably pass on this.
I have a 4k firestick that cant be recovered anymore - stays stuck on the firestick logo.
Tried all the methods on xda forums to unbrick (exploit methods, shorting pins, y-cable, etc.), but no luck.

No root methods for 4k max either, yet.

Literally just bought the lite stick and set it up on Saturday, was looking for a 4K one but couldn’t justify paying £60+. Just my luck…..

    Same!

Also, the AI version is coming out soon! It’s going to be amazing and only £30 apparently
  17. lookingfordealls's avatar
Still seeing as 69.99 anyone know why?
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
    Discount applied at checkout?
  18. Bedrocks's avatar
    Hold off until tomorrow
    Paul_Woodrow's avatar
I'm guessing John Lewis will have them on sale, too?? In which case you'd get a 2year guarantee instead of just one year with Amazon and Argos.
  19. ryzard88's avatar
Nice thanks. I may go with this instead of waiting as I can get an extra 6% off through my work app.
  20. AncientYouth's avatar
what can this do more than a chromecast?
    Adnams_'s avatar
I think it has the All4 app available - whereas my Chromecast with Google TV doesn't for some wild reason. I'm shopping for one stick to do everything, so it might have to be this and get rid of the Chromecast. Shame.
  21. Baby_Faced_Assasin's avatar
2 questions: are these easy to change to Australian spec? Eg. Surfshark VPN and then add Australian streaming apps? And are these better than Chromecast?
    ms84's avatar
I was watching AusOpen in January via VPN and some Australian TV app no issues.
  22. Strixx's avatar
Does anyone reckon the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd gen) is going to be cheaper than £40 brand new later in the year?

As I always see these Fire Sticks on offer, so just wondering how cheap they tend to go, as I'm not in a rush to buy one currently?!
    Joejeep's avatar
I’ll just check my crystal ball!
  23. redholt's avatar
Do these have chrome cast / Google cast tech on them?
    hawksface's avatar
If not natively, there'll be an app that does
  24. Faz040's avatar
In real life use, could someone help me understand why the 4k Vs 4k max is worth the jump in price
  25. bogdan_lm20's avatar
So disappointing that it doesn't have usb c
    t_taylor's avatar
Comes with a plug and cable so really not that big of a deal

Picked it up yesterday, its awesome. I have paired it with the TCL TV that I got a few weeks ago (55") and the OS is so damn slow with random crashes and the likes of Disney taking minutes to get anything playing...I was really starting to regret it but the FireStick has now made it a good deal. Telly on, app open and playing something within 30s now.
    bogdan_lm20's avatar
I have 2 TCL and both work great. There are some settings that you can play with, check Youtube.
I use Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Max II but I can take them out and still have Android 11 with Dolby Atmos+Vision.
TCL is fantastic, too bad they don't release updates often

ordered, cheers OP, definetely handy with the £5 promo code!
  28. Dambuster2001's avatar
Has anyone else had issues with the discount code and their email address?
I have my own domain name and any made up email address I used it said wasn't valid. Also tried with a friend's domain name.

Tried my gmail account and it went straight through

Is this showing as still working . . .

Shows at the reduced price but when trying to pay it goes back up to full price.
