Wonder where they have found stock of this, it hasn't been on general sale for at least a year.

Any experts know if this is HDR and be good for PS5 gaming?

On the lookout for a new 4k HDR TV around 43"

Yes it will work, but this TV is a budget model and doesn't support all the advance features the PS5 & Xbox Series can out put.

The ps5 & Xbox series can out put full 4k resolution at a screen refresh rate of 120hz. They also support ALL (auto low latency) & VRR (Variable refresh rate)

So even though it will work and display a picture. It will be locked to a maximum resolution and refresh rate of either 1080/1440 or 4k@60Hz depending on the game. Which could affect some games.

Yes it does have HDR (high dynamic range) support. Almost all 4k TVs do. Although it probably won't go bright enough to be effective.

43" TV's are starting to disappear from a lot of manufactures ranges. 50 and 55 are some of the smallest in some cases.

The best TV for a PS5 is a Sony. Simply because they have specific software to detect the ps5 and automatically adjust all the modes and settings correctly.

You don't necessarily need to buy a Sony. You simply need to look for a TV that has true 120hz or higher refresh rate panel and at least 1 full fat hdmi 2.1 port with ALL & VRR support.

Check the specs carefully as lots of TV's claim they have a game mode on older 50/60hz and HDMI 2.0. They sort of do, but it's limited to lower resolutions. And if doesn't have ALL/VRR avoid it.

Probably best to look at a Hisense or TCL. As most big brands only have those features on higher end models

I'm going to make an educated guess, that anyone that buys this will have the worst possible TV experience you can have.

Expect the remote to fail within 6 months, the TV to take 5 minutes to boot up and become useable, the TV guide to take at least 1 minute to load an empty guide. It also won't be long before it stops connecting to your home wi-fi and expect constant pop ups every time you switch on the TV telling you to update, yet the update doesn't work, whether you try to download it or load from a usb stick.
Obviously the picture is going to be horrendous and any dark scenes will look a pixelated mess.

In all honesty though, this is a very good price for a 43" TV and probably worth fighting in the aisles of Lidl for (edited)

Vestel TV's aren't that bad, at least the ones running their basic Linux OS (like this one) are relatively speedy. Ive only had good experiences with them in the past few years, no failures or faults, and better than expected picture quality.

So what happens if you need to claim during the 2 year warranty?

Does the guy in Lidl who is restocking the baked beans come round after his shift with a screwdriver?

I can't speak for TVs but I have used the warranty for other large items. You call a number and they check your warranty details including proof of purchase. If it's repairable they will collect it. if it's not repairable, then they will ask for a photo of the cord cut to the item (mine was a jet wash). They then send you a brand new one out or offer a refund to the amount paid by bank transfer.

seems the LG tv is hero deal for Scotland and Wales, whereas the Toshiba deal appears to be lead deal for England, I think

We have a now, quite old, Toshiba, given to us by Toshiba UK when Comet went bust. Comet screwed us over and flogged us two tvs in succession that didnt work, one we got home and...... nothing!. Comet then went into receivership and refused to refund or have anything to do with it. Toshiba stepped in and helped us out. That tv, while dated, is still going strong, no dead pixels, no problems whatsoever, works the same as the day it was delivered.

Toshiba don't make TVs anymore; they are all just rebranded Vestels. This has got more in common with a Bush tv from argos than your old Toshiba.

It's all a bit sneaky as they are trading on their former reputation. (edited)

All the TVs are likely Vestel or equivelent so an ok basic TV.

It’s probably crap. But that’s less than I’ve paid for a 14” portable in the past so heat added.

Am i right in thinking this tv will be total pants??
    C0mm0d0re_K1d's avatar
It's just a basic smart TV. Ok for basic TV watching. No recent tech with limited connectivity. Probably ok if you looking directly at it, otherwise no. Depends how fussy you are, and what you want it for.

For the money, a bit of a bargain, and 2 year warranty very useful.
Just don't set your expectations too high.

Toshiba TVs are rubbish. Mine broke after 12 months
    C0mm0d0re_K1d's avatar
Exactly as they should do, so you have to buy a new one annually like a phone.

Is this smart TV? YouTube or prime?
    chancooluk's avatar
It's a basic smart TV yes. YouTube and Prime video are both pre installed.

Back in the CRT TV days they made quality TVs . I'd never consider them now.

I have been to three LIDL's this morning looking for the Sharp 50" (didn't get one)
I dod see a chap walking out with a Toshiba TV as I was going into the third one though.
I didn't get to see what model it was but I am guessing it is this one.
