    Good price, whisky any good?
I like the 12 year old.

it is nothing like the 12 year old. It's cheap, young, hot spirit in my opinion. I'd take a bottle of blended Whyte & Mackay over this.

By all accounts this is the only bad Deanston

It isn’t a patch on the 12 year old, which is a personal favourite, but is still excellent value under £13. Not as smooth, complex or as developed but worth trying once at least.

So it's bad value at £19.59?

I have had a lot of much better malts at around it's target £30 a bottle, but I've not had many better single malts at this nearer £20 a bottle.

Yes it is young but not chill filtered, they have used a softer filtration which means not all the flavour has been removed.

No it is not complex, would it make a good mixer ? Yes, can you drink it on it's own, also yes, the fact it is not very filtered means that adding ice does make it go a little cloudy.

Nothing like as smooth as the 12 year old, it does have a strong spirit aroma on the nose when poured but this soon reduces, and you can smell barley, malt, toffee & slightly charred wood & spice.

The palate is like a sweet malty biscuit with hints of honey, but still a bit of a spirit burn on the back of the mouth.

Not the longest finish but actually longer than I expected for such a young & uncomplicated malt, personally at under £20 I think it is a bargain. (edited)

How does this compare to the Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair?

Awful whisky, not worth it even for £19. As others have said, I got for £13 a while back and thought that was about right, only suitable for mixing imo
