This seems decent for the spec, but I'm sure someone will come in shortly and complain because it doesn't have 32GB of RAM and a 4090.

    It's decent spec, but it's a dell.

Might be a silly question, can I charge this using a usb-c cable when connected to my docking station? (Docking station has power delivery)

Not a silly question, however it looks like this one doesn't even have a type c port as it's the PCB model, but the docs don't specify power on type c even for the aluminium models so it should be assumed not, but it may work. (edited)

I’m looking for a solid laptop for my lad, for high school. You read so many different views?? Decent ram, storage. Just over £400 is there much better for the price, longevity?

Assuming it isn't going to be needed for anything that's graphically demanding, this will last for ages. My 2018 XPS13 is my daily driver for all my work. It has 8GB RAM, i5, and 256GB SSD.

    Is ram soldered?

AMD 7 Vs I5 anyone? Proud and cons? Switch i5 to 7 takes it down to 399, is it worth it?

I have a dell i3 for work and it's brilliant. Throw it into a bag, very robust and does what I want with fab battery life. Can't fault them I might buy one for gaming (UT2004) linked to a display (hdmi is 1080p only tho) with the Ryzen setup... Will have more than enough grunt for me.

Lots of customisable options with chips, also inspiring vs new inspiring is an option! What's best low cost option for high schooler? Only gaming would be roblox, as uses xbox and switch for everything else. Thanks.

I got a Dell laptop for my daughter about 5 or 6 years ago, and 18 months after purchase the fan went into overdrive every time it was turned on. Approached Dell about it - out of warranty - and it's still "working", so they were not interested. I took the whole thing apart and tried to work out the issue, but it wasn't anything obvious. Anyway - I've also had Dells at work (not top of the range) that have worked for years and years, so I've now sworn off "cheap" laptops ... although for this deal the price/spec. is pretty damn good.

That sounds like a software issue? Did you try reinstalling Windows? On these lower spec laptops, it's quite easy for an update to over-stress the processor and cause fan issues - I has the same. I just reverted to a previous saved version and it was fine after the next update. I'm using that machine to type this.
