Register via the dedicated link provided before your scheduled flight departure
To access lounge, just display your LoungeKey Pass voucher which will be sent to you by email/SMS

About the offer
Like dental appointments and spilling sauce on your new top on a night out, flight delays are unwanted, stressful, and can cause you to say things you’d later regret.

Luckily, it’s all plane sailing for you, with free lounge access for you and up to three guests if your flight is delayed by 60 minutes or more.

How to use:
1) If you are planning to travel abroad by plane sometime soon, tap 'Use Now' and claim a unique code for this month.
2) Simply register before your flight departure time to access your airport lounge perk. We advise that you register at least two hours before your flight departure time.
3) If your flight is delayed by 60 minutes or more, display your lounge access voucher, which will be sent by email and SMS, to the lounge staff.
4) Sit back and enjoy lounge access for you and your travel teamies. Expect treats like comfy seats, complimentary food and drink, and free WiFi.

Almost makes you want your flight to be delayed. Almost.

View the following link to see where lounges and participating LoungeKey Pass venues are located, along with detailed terms and conditions per location: loungefinder.loungekey.com/Pass SmartDelay reserve the right not to provide the Reward if you fail to accurately register your details. Subject to successful prior registration and lounge availability, the Reward will provide you with airport lounge access via email in the event that the flight tracking system identifies that your flight is delayed by more than 60 minutes (the 'Delay Threshold'). You will also be notified via SMS.

To access the lounge, you must display your lounge access email. A delay which matches or exceeds the Delay Threshold must be announced as one single period of delay or reached as a consequence of multiple incremental shorter delays. In the event of a qualifying travel delay, a lounge access voucher will be provided to you and up to three travel companions on the same day of your flight travel.

Only named individuals in the email confirmation will be eligible. Your Smart Delay lounge access voucher is valid for three months from the date of issue and can be used once.

If your flight is delayed you still have to queue at the gate, there's no practicality with an offer like this.

Beg to differ. We had a very pleasant 2.5 hours in the No. 1 lounge at Gatwick last week as a result of a delay. This is a brilliant offer from O2 and I was really pleased that I had pre registered for this.

Had a flight delay of over an hour and the vouchers only came through when I had landed at my destination, almost 3 hours later. But good for those that do manage to receive them in good time.

Edit: The voucher remains valid for 6 months, so I can use it on my next trip. (edited)

Now that edit is tasty info! Goes to look at o2 options (more enticing than their mobile service).

At risk of repeating myself from earlier comments, this is worth knowing.....

You can use the code to register ANY future flight you've got booked. You DON'T have to be flying in the month you claim the code.
I've registered all my future flights through to January 2024.
To prove this works, I recently received a lounge pass for a delayed flight back from Oslo. The flight was booked and registered last September when O2 ran the same offer last year.

It's worth keeping hold of a spare code, even after you've registered all your future flights.
You only get a lounge pass if your flight is DELAYED, not CANCELLED.
If your flight gets cancelled and you rebook onto a new flight, you might want to register your new flight with SmartDelay.

Now a warning, when flying home to the UK from Europe, keep an eye on your flights before you go through the Schengen passport gates. If your flight is delayed, you could end up trapped with few facilities, as all the lounges will be before the Schengen gates. This happened to us in Bonn/Koln, luckily the border guards allowed us back through the gates, although we did gain 2 extra stamps in our passports. Was worth it for an hour in the very nice lounge.

Also, hidden away in the T&Cs, it says you can redeem the lounge pass to the value of £15 in some other food and leisure outlets. Might be useful if the lounges are busy and you can't get in.
There's a link where you can check the locations. For example, some Pub Kitchens in Heathrow are listed.

It would appear that the game is up. I’m in Manchester now and was refused access. The lady checked my QR code against my flight and seen that it wasn’t delayed. I pointed out that it was a pass with a three month expiry. She wouldn’t have it so I left red faced.

You won't get into the Concorde room ! (just saying) (edited)
    beerlyalive's avatar
I'm sure we could list another 5000 lounges that this won't give you access to, but I'm struggling to see the point?
  5. dom3663's avatar
Could I select a 'random' delayed flight, days/weeks/months before my booked flight, then use for my real flight (even if not delayed)?
    FreeThingsEtc's avatar
It doesn't work 😫 we tried it today and had an embarrassing decline when she checked our boarding pass against the QR code. Walked out with my head down :/
  6. samsmith66's avatar
Been through airports 100s of times. Who needs a lounge pass if you are told by the gate about the delay. I am not running across the airport just to sit somewhere to have a coffee and read the Times and then running back to the gate to catch the flight. By the way plane delay times will keep changing, hope you don't miss the flight. (edited)
    markoUK's avatar
Have to agree, it’s a ridiculous concept when you think about it. You are best waiting at the gate rather than in a lounge. If you arrive at the airport and there’s a significant delay then it maybe of help.

Is there a way I can get another code to register my other flights? I'm going to the Maldives next week which involves 3 flights there and 3 back. I've only been able to register my first two flights going out?

Or, if you fly with Wizz Air, free lounge with every flight
    jetstreamer's avatar
Except Wizzair will "board" you on time and then trap you on a staircase for an hour before getting on the aircraft

(I am being a little unfair as I've only flown Wizzair twice and both were on time but I've heard the stories!)

Went to Majorca recently, registered the outward flight not expecting much if it was delayed. Anyway, flight was delayed only half an hour and we received the lounge passes, no problem entering one of the lounges at Manchester and enjoyed good food and drink for an hour or so. Did the same on the return flight which was over an hour delayed so we got to use the lounge on Majorca airport too. An amazing offer from O2 but I believe it ends September which is a shame.
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
You can use the codes to register any future flights you have booked, as long as you register them by the end of September.
I received a lounge pass 4 weeks ago for a delayed flight I registered last year.
I've already registered all my flights through to January 2024.

My daughter is with 02, we fly out tomorrow but do not return for 2 weeks. The 'use now' button states she can claim a unique code for this month, would a 2nd code be required for the return flight in August, if the 1st code is not used tomorrow?
    mgk's avatar
Rizo is wrong. The o2 code gives youn 2 flights for upto 4 people. So you can register outbound and inbound from the July o2 code. Register both flights now.
  11. SteddyJ's avatar
Somehow mine is active now and says "use within 5 days". Will this renew if I do not use it?
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
You can use it to register any future flights you have booked.
Or offer it to any friend or family member so they can register their flights.
That code will expire after July 31st. You can claim a new code in August, and again in September.

This is great, I’m not at all complaining! But just be aware of certain lounges in London. Was recently told the waiting list for Stansted’s Escape Lounge was 1 hour without pre booking.
    t3r4's avatar
Not just London quite common all around the UK. Stansted is notorious as the lounge is tiny and especially problematic in the morning as around 1/4 of the lounge is reserved for the Emirates flight.

I now run straight to the lounge after security to get on the waiting list, then go back and do duty free lol. Least last time at Stansted they told me 1 hour but it ended up only being about 20 mins.
  13. magicmat's avatar
It wouldn't register my easyjet flight, are they excluded?
    t3r4's avatar
Make sure you're using 2 digit airline code U2, EC or DS not the 3 digit one

Worked for me and the girlfriend this evening flying Easyjet. Flight delayed an hour, registered on arriving to the airport and received the PDF immediately.

Saved us £30 on food/drinks bills (lounge was full, but could use the discounts at a bunch of restaurants... Perfect.

    Thanks OP.
    Backinamo's avatar
How did it work if the lounge was full? Fixed amount of your bill? thanks
  15. jinkssick's avatar
For those wishing to know, the lounge passes worked for me at 4x different lounges abroad Maldives, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Budapest, even though the original airport selected was Gatwick.
    dave111's avatar
you managed to use one pass at multiple lounges. doesn't sound right
  16. cs92's avatar
Has anyone got a September code they’re not likely to use and doesn’t mind sharing?

im a bit confused as to how this works, ive only been able to register two flights. do i get a new code each month that only allows two flights?
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
That's correct, and sadly this is the last month.
I'm hoping they repeat the offer next year, maybe starting in June.
If you know someone with O2, you can use their code.
  18. CJHADONE's avatar
I see the QR code on the pass contains the passenger name. Does anyone know if the lounge staff care if its in a different name?

Used this in turkey in June. Free food/drink and wifi were a treat
  20. deleted48909's avatar
Great.....I already get free lounge access through work......rarely use it anyway as I make a rule of never rocking up to an airport more than an hour before departure.

Now on the odd occasion I do it'll be full of the great unwashed whinging about their delayed flight.

    Thanks O2.

Guess your employee doesn't employ staff with social grace.
  21. fossman's avatar
Registered a family member on this for a flight today after the air traffic control news broke.

She is currently sat chilling in the VIP lounge in Turkey whilst the normal departure lounge is very busy.
  22. rockz1's avatar
Used this on Monday when my flight was delayed by 7 hours at Gatwick. Absolutely brilliant Much better relaxing in a premium lounge rather than in those cramped seats.
    With free drinks and food
  23. Jaydizzle84's avatar
You can't get in the Gatwick lounges with Priority Pass with Amex without pre-booking. So with O2, not only will you probably be turned away, they'll probably spit on you too for being a pauper! Amex gold members, you're better off with The Grain Store.
    mgk's avatar
Priority pass doesn't get you very far that's for sure.

What is not clear to me is if these QR codes are a "booked" entry and therefore worth more than the priority pass entry.
If anyone has any idea of.the sitaution im this regard it would be great to comment. (edited)

Sitting right now in the No 1 Lounge Gatwick with my family of 4 because of this deal. Many thanks for highlighting it. (edited)

I registered for this when I went on holiday recently, I was on time, and they sent a text to acknowledge. Very good service to have especially ih some airports abroad which are a zoo when flights are delayed (Heraklion I'm looking at you!).

when i click on get deal it says login via o2 priority or virgin media
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
Yes, you need to be an O2 or VM user and register for O2 Priority.
  27. bittihuduga's avatar
i am not a o2 or virgin. this deal requires to be logged in.
anyone mind sharing 2 codes please - for each direction of my next flight

Can't seem to access the offer – it says it's not a valid UK mobile number when I put mine in (it is, on O2) to get sent the code. Anyone else have this issue?
    sheffield788's avatar
I didn't need to put a phone number to get a code. I clicked on this deal, and the code was displayed. No code was sent to my phone. After that, I've registered the flight, date, our names, phone number, and email. Received confirmation of the registration.

Just be aware - there is no available lounge at Newark Airport EWR (used for New York mostly)
    Priya_P's avatar
Depends on the terminal but very recently used the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at EWR

My flight was delayed for two hours after we boarded the airline. Requested the Lounge Key and after a while I was given one, but specifically for T2 of LHR for 3 months. So practically I need to fly again from the same terminal to be able to use it.
It is great if you are not at the gate or inside already.
    jinkssick's avatar
    You can use it worldwide
  37. StottyUTA's avatar
    Thanks just registered
  38. blahblahblah1234's avatar
Also worth mentioning, each code allows you to register up to 4 people, as long as you're all travelling together with the same flight details. (edited)

They are cheaters, I have opted for this offer and my flight was delayed by 90 mins still I got an email saying that your flight departed in time. sent 10 emails already to smart delay and 10 plus tweets to O2 but no response in a week now
    mgk's avatar
Anoying but time to move on.
Worked brilliantly for me on a 3 hours delay for kenand loads ofnothers on here so "cheaters" is a bit strong.
Assume it works off centrally updated flight schedules so perhaps yours wasn't updated correctly.

word of warning to check if you get the passes sent to you. Had delays last month and got an email with the lounge passes. Great....but then we found that they messed up one pass number (duplicated it on two out of the fours passes). As a result the lunge refused access to one of the people. So just ensure you check the barcode number if sent.
    mgk's avatar
Interesting given ot mist he an automated system.
Did two of you travelling have the same name by any chance? Or could you have entered the same person twice?
