I will be starting a course in Photography and Cinematography in September. For editing, would a card like this be fine or should I go for a MAC device as I can easily get a Macbook for this price or even the new MAC Mini.

Currently on an AMD 5950X, 64GB DDR4 RAM, with a ZOTAC GTX 1060 6GB main OS is on an NVMe SSD and I have multiple 2.5 SSDs for storage on it also.

I'd love to stay on Windows but I see that pretty much everyone on the course uses Macbooks lol

You really don't need a GPU in this class for photo editing. Your existing system is more than up to the task. It's still mostly CPU bound (the 5950X is a monster) with a few GPU accelerated tasks depending on the software.

You don't need this or a Mac tbh, your current system is more than fine.

Inflation adjusted my 3080 I bought Sept 2020 for £715 would be £850 today so once 4080s get nearer that amount I’ll continue sitting and waiting.

Insane amount of money by anyone’s measure.

Discount percentage is the only fair number with the deal.

Thank you OP - purchased on my AMEX for points, and there's 8.50% cashback through Topcashback - £74.29 tracked. I've took a photo just in case its rejected but it does show the 15% site wide discount and Flash5 as eligible when claiming cashback.

I've been trying to decide on my upgrade path for month's from a 1080ti custom hybrid which has been solid, and hopefully there's some resale value in it.

I keep my GPUs for at least 4 years, the 5year warranty with Zotac is good peace of mind for me.

Looking forward to finally experiencing some RTX games! (edited)

Although I can buy this under business and claim Vat back, still find the price hard to swallow, no matter how good this card is. I'll wait a bit longer, doesn't have to be this card.

Cheers, looks like were not doing too bad between us! I use a Steam Deck for emulation (Emudeck) - I bought it second hand to toy around with whilst I waited for GPU prices to stabilise... but they haven't

Have a good weekend too, fingers crossed the BBQ is making an appearance

Hey, also have a Steam Deck too, I have downloaded 1tb and 512gb images from Arcadepunks.com, you just simply burn the image to SSD or SD card, then boot from it. Near solution, although don't think you can add more ROMs, but I can do that with EmuDeck as you have done. Take it easy!

RTX 4080 received, installed, tested and 5yr warranty registered. I'm really pleased with it - handles everything I've thrown at it with ease (1440p) and barely any volume from the fans - I'm glad I made the leap, despite the price.

Seems like a good deal but is this a £1,000+ GPU really? :/

No, but unless idiots stop paying then this is the route pc gaming is going. Overpriced components and horrible ports
