Heat added, also, the L Thinkpads has extra slots for more RAM. We have this configuration of R3 where I work and the users are happy with the performance. For day to day work this beats the 9th and 10th gen Intel versions of the same model which we also have in operations. We run ours on 16GB ram which is in mho the sweet spot for the 4300 cpu. Also, 3% TCB on ebay today and 300 nectar points.

Same deal applied across other models from this seller, for example T14s Gen1 R5/16gb/256gb is £505. (edited)

Mine have turned up, same model as described (20U8S2TE05) Gen 1 manufactured 21/10/2022 brand new and sealed

    AMD 4300U
    No backlit keyboard
Windows 10 Pro preinstalled (I'll be wiping them and sticking Windows 11 on)

Upgraded both to 16GB RAM no problems (I nicked the 8GB stick out of one and stuck it in the other and then a CT2K8G4SFRA32A 8GB x 2 Crucial RAM kit for the other £31.98 at Amazon currently)

The lid pops off fairly easily but take your time, the screws are captive (so stay attached to the lid) although the bottom left screw holder on one unit broke off and came fully out, not an issue as it screwed back in fine and I don't think it was my fault as I was super gentle with everything!), you will need a guitar pick or similar and just take your time finding the catches, I started at the bottom left and worked my way round eventually it just comes straight off for access to the interesting bits - also remember to pop out the SIM card tray before attempting removal!

Also to be safe before fiddling around you can connect to AC, go into BIOS setup then Power Options and 'disable built in battery' which will power the system off and then you can remove the AC and when you power it back up again afterwards it'll enable the battery again automatically, I didn't want to risk trying to disconnect a presumably very stiff battery connector from the motherboard!

Couldn't see anywhere for a 2.5" drive unless I'm going blind, it looks like they nicked the space where it may have gone for the M2 slot

    Extremely happy for £280!

These are brand new in box. I’d got a few of the 14” version for some of my schools I support. I think Laptop Outlet bought up some new old stock from Lenovo recently. Really well made laptop.

Hard decissions, how does this compare to e.g. ASUS Vivobook 15 X515JA 15.6" Laptop - Intel Core i3, 256 GB SSD, Silver £249 @ Currys hotukdeals.com/dea…634

Update: Asus is OOS I now see, compare comments still appreciated still undecided on a sub £250 bargain. (edited)

I'd rather get the ThinkPad. That CPU is quite inferior to the 4300U, with it being a dual core. Materials looks cheap and the screen is likely a TN. For £30 more, its a no brainer.

Really struggling to find full specs for this as the part number doesn't seem to exist anywhere except for this seller. The Ebay listing says keyboard isn't backlit, yet the same machine from the same seller on Amazon says it is. No mention of battery life anywhere.

From doing some digging, I am fairly confident it's a gen 1 L15. the link below looks to be the correct specs and seems to answer my question on usb c displays.

    Another update

Wiped the disks and a fresh copy of Windows 11 from a USB (via Media Creation tool from Microsoft), running absolutely great although be warned it doesn't seem to pick up the WiFi driver initially so you have to hard wire the ethernet to run through the initial setup then run Windows Update a few times which will get everything installed (also don't forget to install the 'Optional updates' as there is a BIOS one hidden away!)

Activates straight away as Windows 11 Pro too which is a £219.99 value alone if you bought it from Bill Gates officially and not some dodgy eBay seller!

And don't forget to install the Vantage app, either consumer or commercial. From years of experience it is one of the best services of it's kind, and drivers are updated better and more frequently than the Win driver update service provided with Windows.

For ordinary/regular use I'd *much* rather this than most consumer laptops, build quality and keyboard quality are corporate level which *generally* means it's more rigid and reliable as even a warranty claim on a laptop can cost more than it's worth in terms of time/materials/effort cots in enterprise.
If you want something that you're going to be typing on a lot - most Thinkpad keyboards tend to be the best in class by most accounts, I'd say it's worth it just for this.
Curiously the video shows two ram slots - Crucial are flogging 32gig kits for it and I briefly saw a claim it could take 64gig but I wouldn't bet the bank on that. 16gig is more than enough for most people (I would definitely upgrade it upon receiving it though).

How reliable are reconditioned laptops like these, seems a decent price though?

These are new, or NOS, you can view the same products on offer on their website but with different discounts.

We had no issues with these, and surprisingly users like the Gen1 more than current models due to better keyboard or key travel. (edited)

Very interested in this, I see it has a 12GB version too. Does anyone know if it would be worth the upgrade? 16GB is sold out.

Ryzen 3 4300U still a strong CPU today, shame they called it a Ryzen 3 as it punches well above i3 and even many i5 equivalents.

Yep, the i5 10120U being an example. Vega graphics also much better than UHD.

Before I bite the bullet on one, does anyone know if this will work with external displays over usb c using one of the many hubs on Amazon?

Have a quick read of this, from what I see up to 3 displays would work.

Did anyone else buy this laptop for £275, but get hit with 20% VAT making it £330 on the invoice? eBay app and has price as £280 (edited)
    Shavestick's avatar
    Shavestick
Yes, same here. The payment taken was £280 and the invoice shows £330.
I guess the invoice didn't include the promo codes. You can always chat with Laptop Outlet on their site and they will sort you an accurate invoice.
