Not sure about the vacpacked comment. Last lot of meat classed as Market Street that I had delivered was vacpacked with the absorbent pack covering enough of the meat that you couldn't tell what it looked like until it was opened.

Spot on. Same with the rest of the supermarkets. The bottom of Aldis now has grey coloured vac packaging on the bottom half of the package. Not a chance of seeing what you are buying. If only Morrisons meat looked like the picture.

Went to a farm shop this week and got rib eye £19.99 a kg on another planet,so can't buy from these water filled chancers anymore

I tried chicken from a meat shop once - not a drop of water came from it while cooking.
Which is why it was about double the price. (edited)

That's why I butcher my own animals. My Catsu curry always gets a lot of compliments from guests - until the big reveal.

I feel the meat from the counter generally tastes better, even though it arrives at the store vac packed or atmosphere packed before the butcher gets his hands on it. The exposure to oxygen, with the meat sitting on the counter or repackaged allows the meat to regain its peak state and ready for cooking.
That off-the-shelf vacpacked meat has been deprived of oxygen (to extend its shelflife) and ideally needs to be out of the pack for a few hours to taste at its best. (edited)

Surprisingly, the best tasting steak I've had recently was from Heron Freezer Centre - didn't even have '21 Days Matured' on it.

What’s a Heron Freezer Centre? I’m assuming it’s different from their usual stores? Thanks in advance.
