Salam, I just bought 3 from Iceland Hammersmith in London.

The main label doesn't include any information about if it's Halal
However the slaughterhouse stamp (SPM51) is among the list of Halal slaughterhouses in NZ

I'm struggling to find the weight in this deal listing. Is this £10 per kilo?

edit: I've added the info for you. (edited)

Newzeland lamb is killing off the British farmers.

If your not bothered, thats genuinely fine. But if you are, buy British!
    dazza99's avatar
Farmers voted to leave the EU and with it subsidies and protection so need to modern and improve their efficiency to compete in the international market in much the same way as New Zealand was forced to do when they suddenly lost access to the UK market in 1973.

How depressing it is that it's more economical/profitable to fly this around the world rather than source locally. (edited)
    jocksteeluk's avatar
Exactly, what are uk farmers doing to make their lamb double or even triple the price?
  6. bluesuns2's avatar
    Is this online only?
    Grrrrrrrrrrr's avatar
Nope - picked up one today in Anglia Square, Norwich. (pensioner Tuesday).

Cheaper than the Sainsbury ones which have been frozen and then defrosted when they reach the store
    nik1's avatar
    Nearly £1/kg cheaper! (edited)

Anyone know if this is available in the food warehouse?
    cjb1971's avatar
Yes had 2 from there earlier, had to ask as they were still out the back.
    Max of 2 per person.
  9. tucka20's avatar
Bought one earlier today. I was surprised to see it was frozen over a year ago, and still has a year on its use by.

Fresh is better (The Sainsbury's deal) but if you intend to freeze it anyway, this ain't a bad deal.
Unfortunately nothing is fresh from a supermarket. Just because it's been defrosted for you, stuck in some plastic wrapping to make the colour pop, doesn't make it fresh.

Case in point, Iceland's frozen salmon is actually as fresh as you can get outside of catching the thing yourself. Frozen at source, which I assume the lamb is too, meaning it's likely fresher than what you'd get off the shelf.

So many people I know that don't eat fish or certain meats because they claim that they smell (they aren't wrong about the smell), when in reality it's because the meat on the shelf is rancid.

The fish you buy from a supermarket is actually so rancid that it's harmful for you. Meat can last quite a bit longer, but fish decays rapidly. The good omega 3 oils become overbearing omega 6.

TLDR, no meat should have a strong smell. Buying frozen from Iceland is likely as fresh as going to a slaughter house

Buy from a local butcher. (edited)

Will it fit in an airfryer? I best take a tape measure along
    jimmiedodger's avatar
Depends on the size of the airfryer ,the only one i have found it fits is the Ninja Foodi Flex drawer currently priced at £270 direct from Ninja its the model with the partition in the middle of the drawer, other wise you will need to get a hack saw and cut to fit the whole leg or ask your local butcher, or use a traditional oven i use an oval roasting tin but use a standard roasting pan if it has a lid all the better as it seals in the moisture by putting some tin foil over and under the tin lid to trap the moisture inside.

Welsh lamb is the best.Much more flavour in it and I'm not bothered how it was killed. Will look in Sainsbury for the British lamb.
    jocksteeluk's avatar
I will happly buy UK lamb at reasonable prices but £29 for a single British leg of lamb from Morrisons as an example isnt reasonable to the average person doing a weekly or monthly shop.

they also have 3 primula cheese tube flavours in their 3 for £5, and the shopmium app has 50p off each of them which would work out at 50p for each.

Worst 'cheese' on earth. More like discharge than cheese. They love it in the US.

PS if you defrost in the fridge you can refreeze it...
