    you can buy a warranty with the drive from amazon for 3 years for £3.89 - did for another drive that works without issue.

    3.5 hdd like this will be too big. 2.5 hdd is normal size for laptops. These are fine for big files or storage.

    But... if its going to be your main drive for windows, look for a SATA ssd. It will be miles miles faster. A 128gb starts about £7 second hand on ebay. And bigger capacities are around too. And maybe get an external usb hard drive if you need to store a lot of video or other files.

    All hard drives fail. I see no problems with renewed HDD's. I have back ups. I have a warranty. There is no issue.
