They are having to work hard to get customers as they have just been given the prestigious award for having the worst customer service by Which.

shame not really any other competitor offer this good price. If only CS was good, its fine when theres no issues but when they have problems you really gotta fight ur corner.

If helpful context for any existing customers, I've just done the pretend to quit dance and was offered £22pm for 125mb (volted to 250mb). I could've held out for another call to save a few more quid, but I'm happy enough with that being comparable to new customer deals.

Did you ring them, or did they contact you? They wanted to triple mine when I tried to renew, so I’ve put notice in.

Yes works perfectly fine for 17 months out of 18, but that 1 month is a nightmare. I just renewed with Virgin Media again price when up to £36 from £22, rang them to cancel they offered £26, but you have to play the game. I normally put the request for cancellation and then someone always calls up for a pretty decent price. Got just the BB M125 for £19 a month

Also check you get the hub 5 before signing up, they’re still handing out the 3 and 4’s to new customers and saving the 5’s for gigabit+ customers (and not even in some cases unless you argue for it). Took me a month to finally convince them to switch my router out. And what a difference it made!

Is there any way to get this as an existing customer with (just over) 1 month left on current contract?

Give your 30 days notice to cancel and then have another adult at your address sign up in their name for this new customer deal.

Otherwise you'll just have to haggle with retentions as an existing customer and see what they can do for you.

They are still using coax in 2024
    KodaBear's avatar
In most areas yes. They’re building out the new Nexfibre network to replace it but this will be many years before it’s national and they’re not exactly keen on doing existing cabled areas too much as losing coax means losing cable TV.

Unless you’re in a newly launched area on the VM network you’ll be HFC, or RFoG at best.

Just renewed BB contract with Virgin. Signed up 18 months ago for 350mb for £27 a month. Due to go up to over £50 a month next month.

A few months ago took out an O2 sim only contract which I cancelled under the cooling off (signal was poor in my house). Virgin volted the BB to 500mb whilst I had the sim and haven't cancelled it since.

Spoke to their retentions team on Monday and managed to get 350mb volted to 500mb for £27 a month. I even told them that I no longer had the O2 sim and they kept the volted offer . They didn't even try to charge me more, was done and dusted in around 10-15 minutes. I asked for a further discount but she said this would be the best price so I just went for it.

Have a few mesh modules around the house and to be fair to Virgin, never had any issues with the BB. (edited)

    HEAT OP!
But I have a question: If I go via the MSE link - it doesn't ask me if I have an O2 mobile and it offers me M125 broadband, with £100 off the 1st bill.
But, if I go via TOPCASHBACK, it let's me say I'm an O2 customer and offers me M250 broadband and £95 cashback

So my question is this: If I go via the MSE link and get M125 boradband, how will I then get this doubled to M250 (I've never heard of volt before, I don't really understand any of this, but -as I'm teaching online, I do need fast broadband). HELP!!!!

Thanks OP (and all responders to my deperate plea for help)...

It will link your O2 account and Virgin Media account together in the first 10-20 days of service usually and give the double data on the O2 mobile account as well as a boost to the next speed tier on your home broadband.

Be careful with the "As I'm teaching online, I do need fast broadband" - Unless you have loads of people in your household online at the same time, or need to quickly download huge files then you don't need this at all. You just need a stable connection at a sensible speed to keep up with what you're doing. Even if teaching over video link and streaming yourself in HD you could probably manage this with about 10% of the M125 Speeds in reality - So don't fall for sales tactics to push you to upgrade for faster and faster unnecessarily.

Needing to renew soon so just canceled on a 26 pound a month deal with one gig internet and phone they just offered me £47 then £42 for the same thing! I just told them cancel it and I'll come back as a new customer for this deal lol SAD

Can go with other providers I live in the outskirts of Leicestershire but Virgin media is the only one that offers over 100 Mb/s that I know of.

Any help would be useful (edited)

Wait until it's 3 weeks before your contract ends and speak to the retentions team.

There's been some really good deals showing up there lately. I've had Volt Gig1, Mixit TV and Talk Weekends for £26.50 recently.

Just to let people know, don't bank on anything virgin say, we signed up and are due the £200 bill credit, we have contacted them at least five times with the last two agents telling us it will be applied to our account and it hasn't. I'm not sure how this company gets away with this, but if you are thinking of joining them, you should be aware of my experience.
