Don't forget this won't connect onto a home 13amp socket will need a 20amp commando connection

I've run a Telwin plasma cutter (41A if I recall correctly) off a 13A socket without an issue

Is this the best for welding? Or what do you suggest?

I own an old fully working arc welder. Any good reasons I should get something better?
    Flapjackdoodoo's avatar
    This isn’t for welding

I know!!! . Found this out at checkout. Sort of too late 😞. Good input.

Does this have pilot arc starting (you get an arc when you hold the torch in the air/press the trigger and not grounded)...If it doesn't then the stand off wheel for the torch head will be useless as the nozzle needs to contact the metal being cut to start the arc.

This could be of concern for those intending to use at home .

    Leads me to think
What other welding equipment/ other electronic devices that we own may fall foul of regulations regarding EMF's?

Another consideration I've found is and should be mentioned " EMF fields may interfere with some pacemakers, and

welders having a pacemaker should consult their physician

before welding." (This is taken from a manual for a welding machine using similar technology so possibly worth looking into if you have a pacemaker & are thinking of using equipment like this.) (edited)

Seems to produce a rough/melted edge cut. Limited uses I'd guess for a small market. Strange the things that appear at Aldi/Lidl.
    warriorscot's avatar
That is generally how plasma cutters work. If you want a clean edge afterwards you can go back in and clean up the edges.

Commercial ones on tables can be a little neater, but generally if you want a clean cut you are best with water jet.

It's a useful tool for those wanting to work with metal. Compared to cutting it any other way it can be a lot less faff.

So tempted, but the huge shower of very hot sparks compared to a cutting disc puts me off ( in my internal garage!). Neighbours wouldn't be impressed cutting on the drive ..

I think there are less sparks. interested on others opinions..

As I understand it, these machines are a good source of NO, NO2 and NO3 plus ozone. Combining with any water (like in your lungs) to produce nitric acid. Any alloy metal (eg chromium in stainless steel) will be present in the fumes, also.

So not a good idea to use in a small garage even with the door open.

Surely as we are in 2023, you have heard of a face mask?
  12. deleted1945554's avatar
I haven't any plasma to cut.

Welcome aboard Frank_Hoffyou - this looks great for cutting through bulkheads on a space station while being chased by Aliens.

What? It could happen one day…
  14. phunny12000's avatar
It should have a guide ring forward of the burning point to get the distance right
And depending how powerful this is it is so much better than any grinder cutter and they do leave an edge like acetylene burning that needs cleaning up if you're going to weld after but not as bad as burning
And the sparks come out underneath once you start cutting
  15. phunny12000's avatar
You need a box to collect the sparks to save for bonfire night
  16. 1884's avatar
These are brilliant on Guy Fawkes night it saves you a fortune on Sparklers
