Thanks OP, this was on my list.
If anyone wants to get the Annual Pass but don’t intend to use until after Christmas, you can buy the gift vouchers at the sale price too. You then have 4 months to redeem them and get 12 months from the date of redemption. merlinannualpass.co.uk/buy…rs/

Thank you that is incredibly helpful information (edited)

And you need a fast pass to get onto more than 3 rides a day. Rediculous. The cheap tickets are cheap for a reason

If you’re active and live in London it’s actually good value for a year, you can visit 5+ attractions easily. Visit in the weekdays and bring your own food (unless you would like to develop a gastritis).

I won’t be renewing after 2 years of Gold passes. I live near the M25 so I can get to TP in half an hour and have made use of the passes for many visits. My kids are a bit old for Legoland now and Chessington is out as it’s inside the ULEZ and I don’t have a compliant car, but have been here twice in the season. They are allowing too many people in to the parks now that you’re looking at 60 minute queues for the coasters. Having recently visited AT and TP for their fright events, it’s become apparent that it’s all about rinsing as much money out of you as possible whilst not really providing any value for money in return. And yes, too many people now using the access passes that they end queuing when the whole point of it is not to queue. I queued for 45 mins in a fast track queue at AT when the main queue was close to 2 hours.

I promised this to my family so might have to push the button. Trying to save money now. There are 10 of us with 2 cars. Can I buy just 1/2 gold card for parking and rest Discovery passes. We live near Heathrow and plan to go to attractions like legoland Chessington or Thorpe straight after school or on Sundays..
    PAULTRD's avatar
Most Sundays are excluded with the discovery pass.

Do they offer discounted passes/ deals for carers/ parents who have kids on Disability Living Allowance or anything like that
    2minutenoodles's avatar
Merlin are not disability confident. We had to jump through hoops, even get turned away at the gate, go to their guest services, forced to go back through security and over an hour wasted and £1k spent on the hotels had to do the whole thing again the day after while people who booked standard tickets are waved straight through. Then while with someone with a lung disease we got stuck breathing in vape from inconsiderate guests and no staff monitoring. I do lie, actually there was one staff member in the rapids tower telling people not to vape in the line.

This is with the ride access pass. (edited)

Based on current members experience, which card is the best value (if at all). It's only me, misus and our 2 year old. We are in London (edited)
    ChelseaRae's avatar
Best value is dependent on the individual/family buying it. For instance, the Discovery Pass (cheapest) is fine if you don’t have to work around school hours/holidays and can visit attractions Monday-Friday as it excludes the majority of weekends and school holidays. For us, that would be poor value as we’d barely be able to use it to get our £’s worth. For someone else, that might be perfect. I’d have a look at the calendars for each pass to help you decide.

had silver passes for a year now, they are great...

Merlin is not JUST Alton Towers, no queues at Warwick castle or Cadburys world, Lego discovery centers and Sea lifes, no queues at Madamae Tausards or Dungeons or Shrek world, london eye, london eye boat or behr grls.

Not much of a queue at the theme parks if you pick the right days. Lego land, chesington, alton and thope park.

We are at something silly like £3 per attraction per visit now, and we don't go very often! It's easy to do 4 Merlin attractions in a day in London and Blackpool. 2 a day in Manchester and 3 or 4 a day in Brum.

For a family of 3 it is cheaper than our Sky bill and MUCH more fun.., silly cheap (edited)

I've been a pass holder for 3yrs and won't be renewing.

Unless you fork out for fast tracks or you're in the "club" where you can get a Ride Access Pass for any old reason (no disrespect to those genuinely in need of one but they are oversubscribed) the parks are oversold and you're lucky to queue less than an hour for most rides.

Food with the 20% is still a rip off and edible at best, quality has really gone down hill

On site hotels have trebled in price since COVID for the on-demand days, £300+ a night in most cases

50p pass holder drinks replaced by £7 per cup freestyle option

Rides are worn out, with the exception of the latest and greatest capex project which generally falls the same way a couple of years later

Don't get me wrong we've had some great days out but Merlin really need to refocus, stop being so greedy and focus on the guest experience (edited)
    AlexCarter's avatar
It’s the price increase of the freestyle drinks for me. My girlfriend and I went frequently to AT and TP pre Covid, and a refillable freestyle drink was like £7?

We went in May this year and they’ve more than doubled to £15 at Thorpe Park??

This was cheaper through the O2 priority deal recently I'm sure of it
    ChelseaRae's avatar
It was, I took the gamble and purchased via O2 at the beginning of the month… glad I did now!

    Has anyone tried the following?

If i got 3x Silver, and 1x Gold, would that allow for free parking and the 20% off food if it were me to place the order? or do they check every card? It would seem mad if they did, but it is Merlin!
    Searching4deals1234's avatar
    Just show 1 card.
  13. Moles.Family's avatar
With the refill cups, surely you just buy one for the family and share?
    SJ_16's avatar
They are time limited. So you can refill once and then it gets blocked for 10 minutes I think. I only got one on my visit which was fine for me and my wife, but not sure it would be good for any more than 2 of you. Especially on a warm day

We are getting Gold passes, family member gifting to the kids for Christmas. We feel like this is a cracking deal! Much cheaper than the Blue Light Card offer, and will be so exciting for our kids who are just the right age. Understand the comments about long queue times - but where we live, we can be at Chessington and Thorpe Park easily, get on the big rides early, then take our time for the rest of the day. Having visited Alton Towers in half term… feeling a few road trips coming on! (edited)
  15. IF2016's avatar
We homeschool our three kids, so am thinking the Discovery pass would be great to do the attractions during term time weekdays without much queuing. Anyone had experience of the queues at theme parks etc. outside of weekends and holidays? TIA
    DanielJackson's avatar
Bear in mind this was a couple of years ago, but we went on a Monday or something, myself and 3 others and we were basically running around getting on as many rides as possible, we probably did 15+ coasters that day (some repeats). So I definitely think if you can attend Mon-Fri you should have a good time. Weekends are hell though, went once and never again, most coasters had a few hours wait on them, only got about 4 or 5 in, terrible.

    candyman86:

is one pass sufficent for the family or do you one for each member?

    One pass per person.
  17. jb90's avatar
Bunch of scammers. Had such a terrible experience with being overcharged for food and so many rides being closed without notice, and other rides with photo booths unmanned. Very cold deal.
    DCollector's avatar
Yeah and they still sell you a photo pass despite rides with photo passes being mostly closed. Really not good.

Queues are mad too on popular rides. Some almost 2 hrs!
  18. nutterburger's avatar
Do you have to book your visits with the attraction beforehand?... and is there a limit on how early or how many spaces available for pass holders?
    ChelseaRae's avatar
Yes, you have to prebook and I’ve found some attractions say sold out/limited availability on dates via the passholder booking portal that are still available on the regular website (ie. Cadbury World).
  19. Lankylad35's avatar
Forgive me, and it might be a quick opinion, and my opinion only but do these really work out good value for people? If I bought the top one that’s a thousand pound a year for a family of 4.. wow!

Majority of the attractions I’ve been to whilst fun for the kids, find them extremely poor value.

If anyone has a balanced view of decent attractions they use to get their moneys worth on these. Obviously geographic location helps as well.

I’ll carry on with my once a year rainy day sealife for now..
    Ridg's avatar
Really depends on where you live, if you're in the south then you can get to the majority of attractions in an hour's drive; if you're in the Midlands or further north then don't bother. If you've got kids then their age and autonomy will play a factor.
  20. spicy_gal's avatar
if you have the blue light discount you get 20% off food and souvenirs at legoland
  21. Veteran_Bargain_Hunter's avatar
I regret buying platinum. Theres small print they dont make obvious, for example, some attractions like London Eye, the 50% off guest passes, are numerically limited. So everyone without a pass will have to pay full price if you arent in their tiny quota

    AVOID
    StealMySoda's avatar
I got hit with this at Alton Towers. After causing a bit of a stink I managed to get a refund for what I ended up overpaying. Having said that, I had the opposite experience at the London eye, and they were quite happy for my guests who I'd got 50% off non-fast pass tickets, to join me in the fast pass lane. It honestly seems to depend on the person. It just frustrates me that they still try and squeeze every penny out of you after you spend (£600 in my case) on annual passes.

reading the thread here, and seen that the freestyle drinks (refillable) are £7.

I've never used one so dont know how it works BUT Presumably the machines recognise the cups and thus dispense drinks? or do you have to scan a barcode etc to activate?

Wondering if its the former, has anyone thought of taking the cups away to use for another day? (yes we are thrifty here lol)
    badmf2's avatar
At Alton Towers, you give them to a member of staff and they refill it for you. They usually write the date on the cup. I've only ever bought one the once. Prefer to take a bottle of water with me.
