Product Details:
The E-plus CFX 36v 9.65ah is the top of the range in terms of power and specification. It has a super lightweight alloy frame and with the battery built into the cross bar, so no one will know you are being powered up those hills. This bike is a true commuter machine with the ability to go well over 30 miles on one charge. It comes with an 8 speed Shimano Acera SL gear set for full control whilst negotiating the urban streets or country paths.
All E-plus bikes have a one-year warranty for electrical parts and two years on the frame. All this is supported by a UK based Helpdesk for any questions. Once you ride an e-bike you will not look back as they make longer journeys possible with very little effort. It takes just 6 hours for the battery to be fully charged, then you're good to go for nearly 50k. Plus the battery is lockable and removable. Very handy.

Getting it at half price seems like a good deal, but I haven't seen this brand before. Buying from Argos should be reliable? Is there any reason not to buy it?

Reading the reviews on this, it states the chain regularly falls off (at least once per 7 mile journey), brakes constantly rub as they're calipers rather than discs, also there's nowhere you can buy replacement / supplementary batteries?! Those items have put me off purchasing for now, unless anyone can allay these concerns?

The chain falling off and the brakes rubbing is incorrect adjustment. If you are mechanically minded that won't be a problem but if you aren't much better to buy from a bike shop that will do the maintenance and adjustment for you. The battery replacement issue is a real issue but normally you would expect the battery to last the lifespan of the bike. Remember the hub motor has internal gearing that will wear down over time. You might get 8000 miles out of the hub motor and the battery is probably good for 20 miles x 500 charges which is about 10000 miles. I could see the replacement battery costing £350 and it just wouldn't be worth it.

If you really need more out of the bike than that consider fitting a replacement clutch plate to the hub motor and having the battery re-celled perhaps 3-5 years from now.

Seems a great spec for the price. A geniune half price reduction possibly. Decathlon does a similar model but that is a much weaker 24V ebike and has a inferior drivetrain and smaller battery and that is perhaps £200 or more than this. Remember this is Argos though so you get a boxed bike and you have to do the initial setup before you ride it. There is little to no support from them.
