For those on the fence I would say this is a better value deal. The sapphire is a nice have not a must have. Yes if you think you're going to bash it it might scratch less but I've never marked a non sapphire in 6 years and the screen is less reflective of direct light. The multi band again is nice but in real world the latest gps in this is not much different. No brainer if I didn't just spend twice as much on the pro ahem.
    bigmo7's avatar
In inner city I would say multi band does make quite a bit of difference - I get incredibly frustrated when I go out for runs sometimes and can't wait to upgrade at some point to a multi band watch

Just got it! had to chat with a live agent, who initially said it doesn't apply to smart watches. Then I asked them for a replacement code as that one "wasn't working" and the replacement code worked for the Garmin.

I'm still rocking a 5+ which TBH still does the job. I'm just about to replace the battery which seems quite easy. I'd probably jump for a 7 Pro or epic gen 2 sapphire under £400. Good deal though.
    Gorskar's avatar
I'm in exactly the same boat. F5s+ still does the job brilliantly, although battery is only 4-5 days now. Would love a 7pro, epix 2pro or 2 sapphire, but cause the old 5s+ is still working great I don't feel any urgency, and will probably wait till one of those is under £400.
This deal however is sorely testing my resolve! (edited)

Great deal. Works out at £345 with access to the people portal at their work and 2% cashback at TCB
  5. dunkert's avatar
However, I will wait for forerunner 965 deal . It is much lighter and at a marathon distance it makes a difference. (edited)
    sparkzilla's avatar
I was having this dilemma also, the 965 has a bigger screen, is lighter, has more GPS options and slightly better battery life. However, the raised 'dome' screen really put me off, I would scratch the screen in no time. Plus I like the look of the Epix for everyday wear. I'm actually suppressed how well Garmin use the 1.3 inch screen, it feels bigger than it is.

I run 1/2 marathons, with wrists not much bigger than my petit wife, and it feels very comfortable and not heavy at all

Wow that is an amazing price. If this was the Sapphire version with multi-band I'd be switching from my Fenix 7.
    Robj1190's avatar
If this was the Sapphire version they'd ve sold out in five seconds at that price haha. There is a great deal on the Sapphire at 530 with John Lewis at the min though. Banging price still

Just signed up to the mailing list and got an extra 10% off.

Worked out at £310 +2% TCB.

    Cheers OP

Anyone able to comment on comparison to Forerunner 265. I was hoping to upgrade my F245 to a 265 (mostly for the AMOLED and Training Readiness feature) over black friday

As far as I can tell, the Epix Gen 2 has everything the 265 has, just in a slightly bigger case? In which case this look a brilliant deal

Also someone said the 265 has a slightly domed screen, so is more likely to get scratched - Epix screen appears to be flat?
    Dec_Bur's avatar
I've recently bought the 265. The screen is flat but domed on the edges. It's an excellent watch and I love it, but a screen protector is a must, especially if you're wearing it for day to day use. Personally, I'd snap up the Epix all day long, as the durability aspect is big and this deal is phenomenal. Really considering swapping tbh

Are these worth the money for weekly runs alone? I already have an Apple Watch
    thedon's avatar
I would guess not, Apple watch (I assume they also have a fitness app?) will probably do everything you would want for that sort of running

If you want to compete or just take running , cycling, gym work etc more seriously and have deeper analysis metrics, training programs, pacing tools for racing - or maybe just more battery life for longer events/multi day hikes etc then you should consider a sports watch like this (noting this is one of the top of the range models, and there are much cheaper options that would do everything most people need, just know Map function tends only to be in the more expensive models).
  11. otak's avatar
Hi, new to smartwatches and I ask probably silly question, but price difference is big between epix2 (even at this prise) and Huawei GT3 or GT3 pro. What is not possible to be done on GT 3 compare to Epix2.
I understand that battery time is different, which is important but appart from that?
I am looking for using it as a fittness guide / trainer and some music probably.
    Thanks
    thedon's avatar
I used a Huawei general purpose smartwatch when I got into running regularly during lockdown. It worked well and I think it's a decent solution for casual runners/cyclists who just want a record of each session, and some heart metrics to show if their fitness is improving. It also worked really well for normal smartwatch things like seeing and responding to incoming messages, step count throughout the day, movement encouragement if I'd been sat down for too long, controlling music without getting your phone out of your pocket etc. etc.

I bought a polar watch when I decided to train for an actual race - and the difference was quite stark. The polar was much better at the fitness stuff, and the training programme it created to prepare me for my race was excellent. However the smartwatch feature were more basic - perfectly functional, but not as elegant perhaps. To me they were good enough.
Same sort of fitness metrics as the Huawei had given, but in much more detail. Progress tracking to show me getting fitter/faster was easier to see and the data felt more accurate.
Perhaps also buying an expensive item like the dedicated fitness watch made me want to get out and run even more, because the data during and at the end of each run was encouraging.

Yes but 10% welcome code doesn't work.

Chat to an agent, told them my code did not fit the box, and received a new one that worked!
  13. xstrio's avatar
which is the better watch this or the forerunner 955, from sportsshoes, both similar price?
    sashforth's avatar
It depends on your needs but I have both and would always go for the Epix 2.

The 955, like other Forerunner watches is basically made of resin and is, therefore a bit lighter so runners quite often prefer it for that reason. It also comes with 32GB on board which would only really matter if you wanted to store more than one regional set of maps at a time. The other advantage of the 955 is that comes with multi band GPS. The sapphire Epix 2 comes with the 32GB and the multi band GPS but this Epix 2 doesn't.

The only real advantage of the Epix 2 is the Amoled screen but that is a very big advantage. It is brighter and has a higher resolution which makes it much more suitable for using the mapping functions. Some people prefer its overall look and feel, being a bit more dressy.

The rest of the functionality is pretty much identical. Both are excellent watches and, at their current prices of about £324 (you can get for a bit less if you have your own personal, non transferrable, 15% code) and £337.50 for the 955 and Epix 2 respectively are both excellent deals. Quick question for those who own one epix. Tried to add my Monzo card on Garmin wallet, but apparently it is not accepted. Really annoyed.....is anyone else having this issue too? Cheers
    Craig_ward's avatar
I use a curve card and add my debit card to my curve account so actually using HSBC as my main payment type

Out of interest, can you change the strap on this?
    Msx98's avatar
Yes easily but you can't remove the pin bar.

Did anyone else’s watch arrive sealed? Like a circle piece of cellotape on one side?

None of my previous Garmin have been sealed in this manner. (edited)

    gazjlfc's avatar
I think you've already made the decision to take it this far
  24. Iamjellybelly's avatar
I've also just snapped one up, I too used the 10% discount form the newsletter, when you try to add it it doesn't fit the box so go onto live chat, work your way through to a virtual assistant and tell them your code doesn't fit the box.
They didn't even ask what I was trying to purchase, they just asked for my name and the code and then replied with a new code which worked. £337 thanks very much

Also....its available to collect in store within 4 hours! (edited)
    garyho1220's avatar
I tried but denied, I can save money and continue my 6X Pro.

"I'm afraid the code does not apply to smart watches and already discounted items."

Ordered mine late Friday afternoon and received "order despatched" email early Saturday morning with no detail about courier or delivery date.
Just received an email from DX to say they have the package, clicked the view options button in the mail, and see a delivery estimate saying it's arriving tomorrow.

Pretty impressive considering I chose the free delivery option (been regretting it since, thinking I should've paid the £5 to have it sooner) (edited)

Agreed, much prefer a black bezel. This is a great deal but think the Sapphire / Titanium at John Lewis is the best all-round choice.

Tempted...but really want to hold out for a forerunner 955 deal as I prefer a MIPS display ( for battery life and always on display) and the lighter weight

The superior golf features on this too though :/ (edited)

Just spoke to an agent and the 10% discount is not valid for smart watches, I just checked the Terms and conditions and it does state that as well so unsure how others may have used that?

Just purchased for £337 with 10% brilliant deal - still full price or £200 off everywhere else!
    sashforth's avatar
You must have got lucky with the agent. Mine correctly told me that smart watches are excluded
  32. ben4's avatar
If it helps, i tried this again and said to another random agent my code did not work and he gave me another one and it did take 10% so I've bought it again and will just need to return the other one to store...so looks like its pot luck if the agent helps or not..

Switching from a Galaxy Watch classic to this one....not sure if I am going to miss any of the smartwatch features, to be honest, but really tired of having to charge the watch every night. I am not going to use the work schema discount just in case I need to return it.... don't want to get stuck with a gift card for H. Samuel

it's not mainly about the large number of options. This is a watch designed for running and other disciplines.

  38. finito's avatar
Received mine today and really like it, so I will keep it as Santa present for myself
However I've noticed that the left hand side buttons are difficult to press....is that just me? (edited)
    thedon's avatar
Mine just arrived too - I find same on this as my old FR245 I have to grip/brace the watch on the other side to be certain to press the buttons. I think I see most runners doing this whatever fitness watch they have (starting and stopping watch for a race is critical to get right, and not assume you've successfully pressed the start button!).
Edit: probably something to do with the water/sweat proofing that means the buttons have some resistance?

Although I'm not loving the Epix size/weight even though I read the specs, compared it to my FR245, and thought about it, the watch feels massive (not sure I could even wear it with office shirt sleeves) and quite heavy. (edited)
