Right, I ordered last night at 11:30pm and received my phone today at 11:30am, pretty good service!

I was getting confused so wanted to share what I have found/understood about the redemption process...

    The steps are:
    1. Order new phone and tick the o2 recycle option
    2. Go to o2recycle.co.uk and send in your old phone (note that during the o2 recycle checkout process it tells you to put your order number on as an offer code, but this is the old process and you do not need to do this, plus it won't recognise your order number anyway...)
    3. Wait 21 days from when new phone received
    4. Go to o2recycle.co.uk/red…ers and enter your order number, recycle reference number and o2 mobile number to get the £200
    5. By default the £200 will be applied to your device plan, but if (like most of us) you don't have a device plan then this will fail and they will offer you PayPal or cheque
    6. Cancel your airtime plan (note it appears you need to have an active number at the point of redeeming the offer but hard to confirm!)

Hopefully this is helpful as it's been pretty painful trying to figure this out! (edited)

Good job, I'm sure this info will be helpful to lots of hukd members.

Nice summary of the process I wish o2 would be this much organised, cause step number 2 is very confusing and put me off at the time when my order number was refused. But it's all making sense now.

Does o2 provide any bag or postage label to send the trade in device?

I was thinking to go to o2 store myself as finding it easier than send phone by post.

If it helps, I got a deal on here not too long ago for an oppo X5 pro where they gave me £150 for trading in a phone. I paid for the device in full and cancelled the airtime straight away. They couldn't apply the £150 to the device plan as it was already paid off and the airtime was cancelled. They paid it to me via PayPal.
    vassy4u's avatar
Hi. was the 150 a bonus on top of the base price for the device you were trading?
  3. tigau.alexandru's avatar
I really don't understand how this works. If you call to cancel the contract in the first 14 days, they won't ask you to return the device ?
    Omnivoracity's avatar
In the 'about this deal' section the OP has described the steps to follow, one of which mentions "Pay for your device in full". Therefore it's only the remaining sim service you're paying the monthly fee for, which you have the right to cancel. I followed this method successfully and for a £287 pixel 7 about 6 months ago. Your savings aren’t reflected in the total cost. Once you’ve bought your new plan, you’ll need to send your old device to O2 Recycle, and your savings will be added to your plan within 10 days of trading in.
  7. TristanDeCoonha's avatar
It looks like you need to keep the plan for one month to qualify for the cashback if you have a qualifying phone, but as their valuation criteria is likely to be high (high enough that you don't need the new phone anyway), and the fact that the page won't open, would suggest you are better off selling to CEX or similar.
    nutellaaa's avatar
CeX cash prices are historically poor, and in any case this O2 deal is better suited for lower value devices that would otherwise fetch you pennies.
  8. TN567's avatar
£207 for a pixel 7 trade in, so in theory £407 ISH. Would this be worth the £100 swapping 7 for this?? Or is it faffing about??
    haggisheid's avatar
£100 for a Pixel 8? i would say that's a good deal, but yes its a bit faffing around, especially cancelling and trading in the phone. (edited)
  9. Jamjaw's avatar
Will a zero value phone count for the cashback? Has anyone done this before?

Hi all, im right in thinking I may not get the trade in, ive paid for phone upfront and entered a old HTC m9 which they valued at £0 but still said I'll get £200 discount, im only confused because of some the comments I've read. Cheers
    Jamjaw's avatar
It needs to be a phone with a value over £0. Buy one on eBay with £2 value on o2 recycle and you can change it or just do in store (21 days after delivery)
  12. nosluom's avatar
Folks sorry I’ve read the thread and comments numerous times but I just wanted to double check as I’m a bit confused. Do you cancel the sim within 14 days or do you have a wait a month and then phone up and cancel it?
    GoldenMagikarp1's avatar
You need wait till they paid your £200 before cancelling
  13. MrBestDeal's avatar
Hey guys, could someone clarify as I'm not able to get help on o2 website apart from seemingly useless chatbot.

Once my new pixel 8 is delivered can I just pop in to one of o2 stores and gave my traded in device? If I want to send a device by post do I need to do it right away or wait for 21 day?

    Thanks (edited)
    Jamjaw's avatar
I was told that would work and do in store - you can always ask them there about the £200 (you have to wait 21 days to fill in the form to claim the £200, not do the trade in, I think)
  14. haahwaaw's avatar
Wish I could use this deal, but O2 keeps declining me when I go to pay (3 separate times now). Very annoying. Tried with and without the extra code. (edited)

    sajidtg's avatar

Plus £200 as per the offer
    so £202.30
  16. jazzuk777's avatar
''Get up to an extra 200'' doesn't sound too reassuring that you'll get it - my valuation for an S21 FE quotes 100, which if 200 is added on is good, if not, very poor.
  17. Gaz987654321's avatar
I don't know why this isn't hotter. Phone will cost me £230 with iPhone XR 64gb and code, plus 1 or 2 months of £9 airtime whilst I wait for the £200 promo to come through.

As a fail safe for what people are worried about (them not paying the £200 direct to you after paying off the device) surely you can spread the device over 6 months. Meaning you will still have an amount left to pay which the promo can reduce for you, then pay off the remaining device bill and cancel the airtime. Unless I am missing something this sounds like a sure fire way to get the promo bonus 🤷 (edited)
  18. moneybanks14's avatar
Code worked for me bringing it down to £509, I've been offered £452 for the wife's pixel 7 pro so it would be £57 for this device. However how would we be paid back the trade in credit if we pay off the device in full and cancel the monthly payment?
    moneybanks14's avatar
Any experts confirm on this ?
  19. reggea86's avatar
Big hassle, hard credit search etc.Even though tempting, would not recommend these kind of things.I could have a phone for free when trading in but I say no to this.As well as others mentioned it,you need a device plan for the extra £200 trade in. (edited)
  20. Jamjaw's avatar
Just read terms - it says the following:

Extra £200 may be paid separately to standard O2 Recycle payment and may be restricted to Device Plan Credit against the Google Pixel 8 or Google Pixel 8 Pro.

I am assuming this is if you have a device plan, they pay out the £200 to you and then you don't pay off the device plan. If fully paid I would expect it to be "paid separately" rather than "restricted to Device Plan Credit"
  21. Njay's avatar
Given it says extra pay out may be restricted to device plan I suspect that's why it says up to as if you pay it off then nothing on a device plan and up to becomes zero.

If it was £200 extra regardless then there would be no need for the up to wording? (edited)
  22. MrBestDeal's avatar
I think it's a good offer which requires a bit of extra hassle, but if everything goes smoothly then the price is unbeatable at the moment.

To be on the safe side, I reckon it's better to take a minimum of 3 months contract, by the end of which you will definitely receive a promoted trade in bonus. Which can be included in the paying off device.

Btw trade in prices on pixels are quite good.

"Device plan must be kept for the minimum term in order to receive the full £200 amount"

What's the duration of minimum term?
    TristanDeCoonha's avatar
It will be at least one month.
The 14 days is the cooling off period, and not contact length.

Some reason only has F3 in 6/128gb and not the 8/256gb to trade in. Showing as £65 trade in for the former so £265...
  35. RAFAVDV's avatar
    How does this work then?
"To get your savings you’ll need to buy a new plan first.
Then, after you’ve traded in your old device, we’ll add the saving to your monthly bill."

I'm looking at trade-in value of £244.45 but if I cancel the SIM what happens as there would be no monthly bill?

Sorry if that's a stupid question.
    vig1lante's avatar
It means it's highly unlikely this deal will actually work if you intend to buy the device upfront and cancel the sim in a month or less.
  36. daniq's avatar
Can I get 2 phones with this deal under 1 account or is it one per customer?
  37. Feargal's avatar
None of my phones are on the list for trade in. But heat added as looks a decent deal if you have a tradein that is accepted.
  38. Georgi_Radev's avatar
MAX upfront payment you can do now is £520 so what happens to the rest of the phone plan? Also when can I cancel the sim? And its written the trade in value will be added to the device plan payments but I am paying already upfront for it?
    Georgi_Radev's avatar
Ignore me I am tired. I just saw it.
  39. daniq's avatar
any issues with canceling the airtime before receiving he £200+ for the old phone?
  40. GoldenMagikarp1's avatar
Found this on the o2recycle website under Redeem Offer

"Please complete your details below to claim your enhanced recycle value

If you are eligible for an O2 Recycle offer, please wait 21 days after despatch or collection of your new device then register your details below.

If you exercise your right to change your mind on your new device, you will no longer be eligible for the offer.

Once we’ve received your details, providing you have completed your Qualifying Recycle and you have made a Qualifying Purchase in line with the terms of the offer, we will credit your O2 device plan with the offer value."

So no good deal on this Im afraid
    GoldenMagikarp1's avatar
Also it is NOT ANY DEVICE .

its only the device List on the o2 recycle

For example I want to trade In my Old HTC Desire 320 and the O2 recycle site only able to trade in 2 HTC (HTC 8X - Windows Phone & HTC One M8)

Was on the phone with O2 Customer Service and Retention regarding the wording "Any Device" which nothing they can do. This is a clearly misleading information on the O2 website.
