Is this fresh whole Salmon, not Frozen ? Is this national ?? Do you need to come early in the morning to get it (e.g limited supply every single day) ?? (edited)

Asda had 800grms side of salmon for £9.90 . Pre packed fresh . I just cut it up into a few pieces and froze some of it. Said reduced from £14.90! No bones or head.
    john_n3MU's avatar
Not surprised it had no head as no side of a salmon would have a head, let alone expect someone to be foolish enough to buy it.

Once the bones, etc, are removed, whats the price per kg?
    N16K's avatar
You can get a whole side pre packed and fully filleted from Sainsburys for £12.50 per KG (Nectar price).

£ for 1lb it might be a better deal.

Dont eat farmed atlantic salmon. Super toxic! Buy wild pacific salmon.

The one from Tesco at £12/Kg was the best. Just had Salmon en crute for supper again tonight. Salmon side fillet covered with wilted fresh Basil mixed with soft cream cheese/egg over Dill herb - then wrapped in Puff pastry and baked for 35 mins in AGA until golden brown after egg washing outside including joints where pastry pinched together.. Mary Berry style. Mmmmmm. Our Morrisons I simply cut into steaks then frozen using CASO vacuum sealer to keep ice off product in bags. All a crowd pleaser.
A must have is the herb sauce - I used Greek stye Yogurt.
Ingredients For the spinach filling - see BBC food. For the salmon
    • 1kg/2lb 4oz salmon fillet, skin and bones removed
    • large bunch fresh dill, chopped
    • 280g jar chargrilled mixed peppers in oil, drained
    • 1 free-range egg
    • 1 tbsp milk
    • 500g pack ready-rolled puff pastry
    • flour, for dusting
    For the herb sauce (edited)

I'd rather get a side of wild salmon from Morrisons on their fish Friday special offer if doing it in pastry. It works out about £18/kilo and isn't full of fat like the farmed salmon.

When you've found out let the rest of us know.
    Thanks

The Tesco deal is double this price

even after you chop off the head and scale and bone your still better off by 40% value wise

Plus the more do it the better that you get it’s a good skill to have

means you can get cheap salmon every time this comes up

    you’ll get 14 fillets for £14 approx
way cheaper than 2 puny little slithers they sell you normally for £4.45

    do the math yourselves!!!

    I have, and your incorrect.

Beats Morrisons 6.99/kg with More card.
Surely a morning queue just like visiting a fish harbour

I am still planning on getting it from Morrisons as they said they would fillit it

Bought 3 at Morrisons. States on pack. 'Previously Frozen. Good to Freeze.' I understand all 'Fresh Fish(unless source is known), has been previously frozen - a point Iceland CEO has made in the media over the years. HOT price. (edited)
    HonourableGentleman's avatar
Their meat is previously frozen too!

Those Asda salmon look nicer than the Morrisons ones
  17. bigpappa's avatar
Will I have to remove the bones?
    Neostar's avatar
Yes you will have to remove the bones, thankfully most of us have cheap gadgets from AliExpress to do this, but if you didn't buy one then don't worry if you go really early in the morning and the queue is short they might be able to fillet it for you

Just got from local fish market: whole salmon. £9 per KG. Once cut, worked out about £15 per KG for the fillets. And 800g of off cuts for broth.

    Origin is Norwegian farmed.

Brined the salmon with salt, vinegared we, now freezing for a week. Plan to use/try for sushi. 🍣 Or use for fish steaks.
£6 a KG is a great deal though.

Fatty fish like salmon is no good for stock
  19. Ega_Hacass's avatar
    Is this Norwegian farmed?
    LoveHdukNotReally's avatar
At this price, it's going to be farmed.

  23. BustyB293's avatar
You realise the head is really heavy, and why salmon fillets are like £15 a kilo

Obviously some people aren't overly bothered about farmed vs wild but imo the farmfoods deal is muuuch better value for money
