So impressed with these. I got 2 of them under the previous deal and this is even cheaper. If I actually had a use for another I'd get one.

Bit of info that may help anyone buying these.

You should get charged VAT tax at checkout (make sure it shows) and so there shouldn't be any charges to pay providing you only buy 1 per order. If you want 2 split them into separate orders otherwise you will incur customs charges.

They come with Windows 11 Pro digital license and so you can do a clean install and it will auto activate. Personally I found no signs of any malware etc on the system and nothing more than base Windows 11 Pro install however to be safe it might be worth doing a clean install.

Windows 11 has all the drivers already built in.

You should change the RAM speed in the BIOS to 4800Mhz as it's set by default to 3200Mhz and the LPDDR5 RAM in these supports 4800Mhz.

ESC or DEL gets you to the BIOS

    PSU is 2.5A 12V. 2.1mm (I believe) centre-positive barrel DC Jack.

The N100 supports Intel Quicksync and so these can do hardware transcoding of video as a Plex Server although Windows Plex Server has an issue with HDR to SDR Tone Mapping currently (it needs Nvidia GPU and doesn't support QuickSync) and so you may need to run the Linux version if you want that feature at the moment. Thanks for the info on the RAM speed, is that easy to change?
I bought one the last time it was posted and it's a great bit of kit but didn't know about the RAM.

Got one of these the other week to replace an old laptop i was using as a home server, it's so good.
I'm running k3s and sonarr, radarr, nzbget, jellyfin (plex), a few websites etc on it (installed fedora server).
hardware acceleration via jellyfin, hdr tonemapping from intel quicksync on the n100, it's mega.
idle power floating at like, 6w!

    Arrived in under a week.

    Mine came with 2 NIC's:

    lspci | grep Ethern
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15)
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15)

I can only assume that's for people using it as dmz router etc.

    10/10 would buy again.

Would this be any faster than my current 7 year old HP Prodesk PC which is a Intel i5 6500 with 20GB RAM and 240 GB SATA SSD ?
Also would it be quieter ?
The speed of my current PC is fine for me, it is just too noisy.

Quieter, much more energy-efficient & 4K resolution support from the iGPU itself, but the CPUs are about on par otherwise cpubenchmark.net/com…100

I've placed a bunch of orders there since the New Year, including over a dozen different items (from assorted stores) in an order yesterday. I know that both my address and payment information are fine.

Regardless of that, I tried removing and re-adding those along with changing the payment type from card to PayPal and then back - no luck.

I've emptied the cart and re-added the item again but at no point have I been able to apply the code either by pasting or typing it afresh.

I'm out of ideas at this point.

So I swapped browsers and either the code fixed itself while I was logging in again (Chrome 121.x vs Firefox 104.0.1) or this fixed it for me. I was able to add the code to the saved cart by manually typing it.

I dunno if this helps anyone, thanks for posting the deal & code OP.

Would one of these be good for running Zwift ? (or any of the other indoor cycling apps) ? (edited)
    farmphdbank's avatar
This is exactly what I have been considering.

You can see the stats by searching "N100" on zwiftalizer.com/search (Zwift is mostly CPU bound)

Basically in busy events (prime time races, TdZ group rides, etc) at 1080p don't be surprised to see 15fps.

On the other hand, if you drop to 720p (which actually is usable) it's probably 20+.

I mostly race prime time (can't get enough seeing myself on the ZCL stream lolz) and ideally would run 1080p at 30fps so I'm still on the fence.

(Note: probably goes without saying but the zwiftalyzer hits are all for "Basic" graphics profile!)

If you like bimbling either by yourself or in small groups/events I think it would be fine.

One consideration for Zwift (if considering e.g. second hand optiplex etc) is that currently it basically comes down to single core performance. So you don't lose a lot by dropping to i3 (which the zwiftinsider article mentions too). We can hope that eventually they rewrite parts to use more cores. Also I might want to use this machine for other things during summer etc. So personally I'll still be looking for i5. Just mentioning in case you need to save a little money.

Is a clean install really necessary?
    CyDoNiA's avatar
To be honest I don't think anything dodgy is installed however I wouldn't say I'm 100% sure and so my advice would be to do a clean install. It won't take long and then you can be sure it is fine.

Mines literally just come (I had 2 already from another supplier) and again it looks clean with only base Windows 11 Pro (digitally activated) on it.

You should be able to just create a Windows 11 USB and boot and install it (you can change the boot device temporarily in the BIOS. Windows 11 has all the drivers built in for it and the license is digital so you don't need to enter it when you install.

Don't forget to also change the RAM speed to 4800Mhz in the BIOS as the RAM fitted is 4800 and not 3200 as the BIOS is set to. It's under the chipset settings.

    - Should probably be ok, but I would go for 12V 3A at least, so it never feels underpowered.
    - Worth checking with an old ISP router power supply rated at 12V & 2A+ - these will be better quality than the generic ones on Ae/eBay/Amazon.
    - If you go for a new UK-plug power supply, these will be fine...
    • 2A for £5.28 ebay.co.uk/itm…486 (make 12V/2A choice from list)
    • 3A for £6.14 ebay.co.uk/itm…486 (make 12V/3A choice from list)
    - Btw, the pin/barrel measurement is 5.5mm x 2.5mm, so you can buy with this connector from anywhere else

A simple EU-UK 2-3pin plug converter costing £2-3 will also do fine, some suggestions below.
I use them myself for EU-plug items - bought BS-certified ones from Poundland for £1-2, here are alternatives if you don't have one where you live...
    - amazon.co.uk/Pro…2Z/
    - amazon.co.uk/Sta…56/
    - dunelm.com/pro…863
    - robertdyas.co.uk/pif…tor
    - amazon.co.uk/Con…M4H
    - Also check your local B&M as says below

If the seller happens to include a EU-UK plug converter, best to check it against these fatallyflawed.org.uk/BS1…tml to ensure safety - if they look like any of them, just bin it. (edited)
  14. matthew_r's avatar
    Me and a friend got one of these each from the last post and they both came with the EU power lead so it might be worth grabbing something like this;
    amazon.co.uk/dp/…ils

52122908-aXrcV.jpgYeah, I got one of the plastic bucket type adaptors. It just looks and feels a bit more secure with the rim there, than just the prongs sticking in to those flat adaptors overseas suppliers sometimes send you in the post. (edited)

How would one of these compare to my ageing desktop? Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz 12.0 GB

Does it have remote desktop option? I normally have to remotely power up my desktop for RemDT, would this be the same? I guess I could leave it running 24/7 though.
    Crossbow's avatar
You can start by comparing the CPU here cpubenchmark.net/com…20K

This CPU is extremely power-efficient though at only 6W & max 30W total PC draw at full load.
Compare this to your PC... the i7-5820K has a TDP of 140W, plus a dedicated(?) GPU & possibly other storage/optical drives & PCI/PCIe plug-in cards - you can get a better figure here outervision.com/pow…tor

Here are step-by-step instructions for clearing Windows from a PC and then installing a clean copy from an image from the Microsoft website while keeping your existing product key:

    1. **Backup Important Data**: Before proceeding, ensure you have backed up all your important files and data to an external drive or cloud storage.

    2. **Download Windows Image**: Visit the Microsoft website and download the Windows image corresponding to your version of Windows (e.g., Windows 10, Windows 11).

    3. **Create Installation Media**: Use the downloaded Windows image to create a bootable USB drive or DVD. Microsoft provides a tool called "Media Creation Tool" to assist with this process. Follow the instructions on the website to create the installation media.

    4. **Access BIOS/UEFI Settings**: Restart your computer and access the BIOS or UEFI settings. This process varies depending on your computer manufacturer. Common keys to access BIOS/UEFI are F2, F10, Del, or Esc. Refer to your computer's manual for specific instructions.

    5. **Change Boot Order**: Once in the BIOS/UEFI settings, change the boot order so that your computer boots from the USB drive or DVD first.

    6. **Boot from Installation Media**: Save the changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI settings. Restart your computer with the installation media inserted. Your computer should boot from the installation media.

    7. **Install Windows**: Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the Windows installation process. When prompted, select "Custom installation" (or similar) to perform a clean installation.

    8. **Format Drive**: During the installation process, you will be prompted to choose where to install Windows. Select your primary hard drive and choose "Format". This will erase all existing data on the drive.

    9. **Enter Product Key**: When prompted, enter your existing product key. This key should be located on a sticker on your computer or in the documentation that came with your device. If you purchased Windows digitally, you should have received the product key via email.

    10. **Complete Installation**: Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to complete the installation of Windows. This may take some time.

    11. **Install Drivers and Updates**: After Windows is installed, you may need to install drivers for your hardware components (graphics card, network adapter, etc.). Visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers. Additionally, run Windows Update to ensure your system is up to date.

    12. **Restore Backup**: Once Windows is fully installed and updated, you can restore your backed-up files and data to your computer.

Following these steps should allow you to clear Windows from your PC, install a clean copy from an image downloaded from the Microsoft website, and retain your existing product key.

They also have the ak2 plus at pretty much the same price.

Anyone got any thoughts on which one they'd chose?

T8 - smaller, dual GB lan, replaceable WiFi card
AK2 - slightly larger, replaceable sodimm memory, space for SSD

Thinking the AK2 probably is better in the long run. Can't see myself using the dual lan and turning it into a router or anything so giving it 32gb of ram and adding a cheap SSD would keep it working for longer in some capacity.

    Cheers
    Crossbow's avatar
Yes, AK2 Plus is definitely better for the reasons you mention.
If ever needed, another Lan port can be added via a USB-Lan adapter & the Wi-Fi card very likely replaceable on that as well.
The only slight downside is 2 simultaneous displays vs 3 on this, don't think that's going to affect your usage. (edited)

To reduce cable clutter, you might be able to power it from your monitor if it supports USB-C PD @ 12V with something like thepihut.com/pro…ark

Note that you really do need the USB PD source to provide 12V, not all of them do. For example, the Dell monitor I have will only provide 15V or 9V so it's no good.

Realtek, see this post by hotukdeals.com/com…051

Fee-free card details here hotukdeals.com/com…28, but you may not be able to join any of them today as it's the weekend. Could be worth a shot anyway. Usually a valid passport is needed to join btw. (edited)

When I go to task manager on mine it shows a base speed of 0.8Ghz. Is this right, and what others see? I thought it was faster than this?

That's just the base speed. It will speed up to 3.4ghz (if I recall correctly) when it needs to. It's Intel SpeedStep. When idling the speed of the CPU Is lowered to reduce power and heat. (edited)

Would these N100 PC's be enough to run Jellyfin and Sonarr and stream 4K?

Considering making a switch away from all the streaming companies I pay for like Netflix, Disney+ etc (edited)

    Yes, someone previously posted
