    • Recommended to wipe the drive & install Windows afresh on receipt
    - Do this with all computers sourced from the Far East, including those via Amazon, eBay, etc & also secondhand PCs from anywhere
    - Some additional useful related tips by (thank you) can be found here hotukdeals.com/com…296

    • Download OS & drivers from GMKtec hosted Google Drive, thank you

    - 12V-3A for £6.14 ebay.co.uk/itm…486 (make 12V/3A choice from dropdown list)
    - The pin/barrel measurement is 5.5mm x 2.5mm, so buy with this connector from anywhere else if you find cheaper or from Amazon if preferred

    Mini guide if needed...
    1. Register your fee-free card as a payment method at Aliexpress (Ae) - wiil be using Revolut as an example here
    2. Change currency at Ae to USD, so you'll be checking out & paying in USD
    3. Add the item to your basket & apply all the various discount codes as applicable
    4. Check the approx current currency conversion rate USD to GBP using something like xe.com
    5. Add the necessary funds (recommended extra £1-2 worth on top) to the Revolut app from your bank account
    6. In the Revolut app, use 'Exchange' to convert GBP to USD
    7. Change the default payment currency in the Revolut app from GBP to USD
    8. Double-check you are paying in USD at Ae & the USD funds in Revolut match or exceed what you need to pay, then hit the buy button (edited)

What would be a better unit for running Proxmox with pfSense, Plex, Pi-hole, and Home Assistant LXC's?
    refaey's avatar
I bought this one for the exact same reason (with the 5600H CPU).
It's arriving today/tomorrow, and I will probably set it up over the weekend.
I will let you know how it goes.

People should know to install a new fresh copy of Windows as cheap mini pc's are known to have malware preinstalled.

or to follow the steps that the guy recommends at the end of the video:
    - run it on guest wifi isolated from the rest of your devices
    - don't use your 'main' accounts (google, ms, financial etc),
    - update and virus scan the machine

if I remember correctly. Then once the scans are clean, you can use as normal.

Good video, thanks for sharing! (edited)

Intel designed this chip and their official spec reports it can only support a maximum 16GB, so those people on Reddit must be talking nonsense.
    ark.intel.com/con…tml
Personally I'd rather have 2xNICs in this form factor, saying that I'd rather have a more capable machine, however I guess for what this is it's not a bad price.
    seaanf's avatar
    I'm running 32gb with a n100(aoostar r1, has 2x 2.5gb NICs too) no issues at all (edited)

    EGGY-PC's avatar
Cut and paste the code. Then the apply button will be greyed out, as if it won't work. Click onto the box, delete the last digit, so the '7', then simply manually type the '7' back in, it should populate for you now... usually works on Ali...

is the cpu sufficient for nas build?
    sswats's avatar
Depends what you will be using your NAS for, but generally speaking for majority of home use, then yes.
  7. infectious's avatar
I bought one from a previous deal, still waiting for it. I'm planning to use Home Assistant and a NAS software, but can't decide which way to go, I can either:
    - Run Proxmox with HAOS and TrueNAS/Unraid
    - TrueNAS/Unraid with HA docker

I don't intend to use RAID, and will have 3 drives externally connected for separate uses: CCTV recordings, Backups/Time Machine and general use for documents, pictures etc.

Can someone with experience with these let me know if I'm going in the right direction, or link to a better alternative? Thanks in advance.

I don't have much experience but I have a similar mini PC running proxmox and since I'm learning its nice to be able to spin up, shutdown , kill or delete VMS or lxcs , plus have a google for proxmox helper scripts and they're easy enough to copy and paste into the shell . I have a arr stack, opnsense running along with some home cloud stuff. One thing I will point out , the bios at least on mine is pretty barebones, also wireless doesn't play well with proxmox apparently. Also remember to activate iommu once / if you install proxmox. I think the previous deals 2x NICs can also be adapter teamed for 2gbit although not tried it.

Seems like a decent deal although it's swings and roundabouts in a way as you're getting 1 less HDMI but one more USB port, less RAM and storage but gaining upgradability but that will cost you to upgrade. Looks good though if that's what you want.

Been impressed with mine I bought before. So impressed I bought 3. One is running Plex and transcoding video perfectly. Faster than my old dedicated server! (edited)

    + Bluetooth 5.2
+ Very easy disassembly for upgrades & changes (edited)

Hoping someone might be able to offer a knowledgeable opinion for my situation as I only recently started noticing all these mini PC deals. I'm in no panic to upgrade just yet but my PC says it can't run windows 11 (I think due to my processor). I have an 8 year old (upgraded to Windows 10) Lenovo Thinkcentre M93P:

    Intel Core i7-4790 CPU 3.60GHz
    Intel HD Graphics 4600
32gb ram (upgraded over the years from 4gb)

I've also upgraded to SSD's and the PC is running relatively smoothly although I noticed that when I have about 30 chrome tabs open it slows to the point I need to restart it and all is grand for a few hours again. I put another 16gb into it just after Christmas to bring it up to 32gb but don't notice much improvement in that regard. I use two screens and apart from chrome, word, excel etc I use a small cad package that is really quite basic (only requires Windows vista up, intel pentium 4 or AMD athlon and 2gb ram etc). Would the likes of this mini PC be an upgrade over what I have or not? I find it hard to compare old processors vs new to actually understand which is better! Thanks in advance

I reckon he should simply wipe the lot as I said before, after backing up & reinstalling Win10/11 afresh - whichever he prefers. Then take it from there.
With 32Gb installed, it looks like he has the desktop version which is a bonus, as it's much more upgradable compared to the Tiny version.
when you reply, it would also help if you could let us know how much space you have remaining on the SSD as it stands now, & the power rating of the PSU. This will help us determine if you could do with a larger capacity drive & if it'll take a low-power dedicated low-profile GPU without having to upgrade the PSU.
I don't think any upgrades are really necessary at this point, except perhaps a relatively inexpensive, secondhand dedicated/workstation-grade GPU of some sort. (edited)

n100 is funny, I have 100 percent load in chrome )) but actually not feeling too laggy, but N100 is really weak
    hedgyhog's avatar
OH has that problem on her 10th gen i3 using Windows 11 and Chrome. Windows seems to mess with priority of Chrome processes - I don't know if that is the cause
  11. plewis00's avatar
Before anyone moans, this CPU is single channel only so you’re not missing out by not having two slots, also CPU is 16GB max so it might take or show 32GB (the marketing sheet says so as well) but not sure I’d bother trying. Looks like quite a good deal for the expansion choices though.  (edited)

Some of them sell these N100 PCs with a 32Gb option.
ASRock also make a mobo+N100 combo supporting up to 32Gb asrock.com/mb/…0M/, so definitely not a CPU limitation.
Perhaps Intel hasn't gotten around to updating their own outdated info.

Does anyone know if I could get away with playing steam valve on this or do I need a gaming PC only.. Its lagging like mad on my standard PC.. I do have Nvidia shield too but all that appears in app search is pc link but it's even choppy trying to play steam on my Nvidea shield.. If anyone could help.. Many thanks in advance guys..
    CyDoNiA's avatar
The host PC is probably most important when using Steam Link rather than the client device. The Shield should run Steam Link fine so the issue may well be your main PC. After all it's doing all the work and just sending video/audio streams to the client device and receiving controller signals back.

This seems like a pretty good option compared to the firebat t8 for those using it just as a Plex server or something. RAM will be enough for that (and can be upgraded later easily), you don’t really need the extra NIC, but the extra storage slot and ease of adding one can make it really convenient for a tiny all in one Plex box, whereas the thinkbat will require some external storage solution for a local media server setup. There is of course a cost to that also, it’s around £50 for an external dock for hard drives, which further increases the price difference between this and that.

For a box that you plan to use a few non data heavy applications on, the extra ram and nic (as well as larger SSD out the box) is a much better option given you are only paying £15 more for that.

I've got the trigkey version of this, and have now moved to it for my day to day pc. Surprisingly good at emulation, but my other plan to use it as a pc in an atgames and mini pinball machine to drive pinball FX/m/fx3 have been scuppered as it cannot handle those games.

As long as you don't want to run normal pc gaming it's pretty good.
